“a must do tour”
Reviewed 18 May 2012

Cape Coast Castle really does put into perspective the whole slavery topic. From an African it is interesting to see that once the slaves were purchased the sellers did not know how brutal the western buyers were going to be. Most of the slaves were captives from tribal wars, prisoners of war who were traded for more weapons.

“I visit Castles”
Reviewed 31 March 2012

If you only have time to visit one castle, skip this one and go to Elmina. Elmina is older and has more accurate history.

“Spellbinding tour!”
Reviewed 29 March 2012

As you listen to the tour guide lead you through the dark history of slavery and the slave trade from this castle, images come to mind of the mistreatment of human beings and what they went through trying to survive. Not just whites and blacks but blacks mistreating their brothers from Africa. Ghana is a country rich in history and in cocoa and gold but it has a long ways to go in its development. The slave trade castle reminds us that human life is taken for granted in our country. The Ghanaians are a happy people in spite of the poverty and reputation that some have given to this intriguing country. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone who wants to know more about a beautiful people. The guided tour of this castle is very well done.

“A fascinating glimpse at the trans-atlantic slave trade”
Reviewed 27 March 2012

The slave castle in Cape Coast Ghana is an excellent one to visit for anyone who wishes to learn more about the trans-Atlantic slave trade. The castle/fortress costs about $10 for foreigners but has a very worthwhile museum as well as a guided tour. Beautiful vistas for photo taking from the castle as well. The guides speak several languages and are very informative.
