Owner description: The Roatan Institute for Marine Science (RIMS) is ideally located for marine study on the northwest coast of Roatan where over 30 miles of fringing and barrier reefs, seagrass beds, mangroves and shoreline are home to an astonishing profusion of life. Founded in 1989, the primary objective of this facility is the preservation of Roatan's natural resources through education and research. In the past decade RIMS has established itself as a dedicated teaching institution. Our facility is visited year-round by colleges, universities and high schools from abroad to study tropical marine ecosystems and the bottlenose dolphins we house at our facility. Many programs are for academic credit, some are in conjunction with other field research stations, and others are simply introductory courses to the ecology of coral reefs in the Caribbean.

“Dolphin Action Experience”
Reviewed 28 December 2013

We booked the Action Experience so we could have a longer interaction with the dolphins. We were told it was 4 people per dolphin. We had 4 and there were 2 other couples and two dolphin. It was a good experience, but we did have to spent a fair amount of time waiting our turn to interact. We basically helped the trainers through some of the exercises. I would have preferred to have had more time with the dolphins, just having them swim by us so we could touch them as they went by.

“Interesting experience, still unsure about it though.”
Reviewed 23 November 2013

The actual snorkeling with the dolphins experience is good, great info session and clear that the trainers enjoy their job. We were pleased to see nearly all the trainers and staff at AKR are islanders. Still not sure how I feel about these dolphins being kept in a pen and forced to interact with snorkelers and divers every day... that's the only reason for 3 stars. The staff and snorkeling session itself are great. Just not sure how much I want to promote a place like this.

“Absolutely amazing!!!”
Reviewed 3 November 2013

We did the dolphin interaction and snorkel for my birthday and it was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. Everyone should put this on their bucket-list. I cannot say enough good things about it. It was so informative and entertaining. I would highly recommend the splurge on the the dolphin snorkel. You are completely able to interact with the dolphins. They swim around you, under you, you can pet them........just unbelievable! This is a must for anyone visiting Roatan!
One of my best birthdays ever!!!!

“Once In A Lifetime Experience!”
Reviewed 4 October 2013

This was the only excursion we booked through Carnival, on our last cruise. We chose Anthony's Key due to the reviews and comments others had left, and were So happy we did!! A van picked us up at the cruise terminal, and dropped us off at Anthony's Key. We got to get a Very up close and personal experience with our dolphin (Alita). That portion of the trip was extremely educational and informative with the trainer giving us an opportunity to learn by touching and allowing us to give her 'commands'. The Best part of the entire excursion, was snorkeling with All of the dolphins!!! They were so playful! We could dive down and pick sea grass, throw it, the dolphins would go chase it, and bring it back to us! It was an Amazing experience to swim and play with them in their habitat instead of in a tank like most dolphin swims are in. We bought the disk with all of the photos on it and will treasure the memories forever!

“Beautiful, excellent service”
Reviewed 14 September 2013

We went to Anthony's Key Resort as an excursion while on a cruise. We were brought there on a bus and dropped 15 feet from the boat dock. We brought our personal gear on board and the staff took care of everything as far as setup for our SCUBA diving. They gave a very informative briefing and broke us in to groups with guides. After a 5 minute (seriously!) boat ride we were at our first dive site, Green Outhouse Wall - Awesome! Great dive, lots of wildlife and coral. Back to the dock for a surface interval - great snack shop right there if you needed anything - meanwhile the staff refilled the tanks and reset all the gear. Quick briefing and back out 3 minutes to the second site - a combination wreck (from above due to depth) and reef dive. Back on the bus and to the port (about 30 minute ride).

We definite would do it again as an excursion, and would LOVE to stay there for a vacation as they have the little huts over the water like in Tahiti and a water taxi that takes you from the little island and back to the mainland where the shops, boats, etc. are. They also have swim with the dolphin programs as well. They have nice dive/stay packages.
