Roatan was an island that was highly recommended to us by friends, but we relied upon the internet for a resort to stay at. We did some research and settled upon the Blue Bahia. We are sure glad that we did. We contacted the resort via e-mail and had all of our questions and concerns answered by Kent, the owner of the resort. He was very courteous and informative and replied quickly. He described tours that we could take and highly recommended a wonderful driver. Our driver George was funny, warm and knew the island inside out. He drove us to the resort and took us on a tour of the island. He recommended a supermarket where we could stock up on food for our full kitchen. The room was spacious, clean and everything worked fine. The included breakfasts were delicious. The Blue Bahia Grill had many delicious offerings at affordable prices. A diving school was on the premises. What helped us from missing our dogs at home to some extent were the owner's 2 friendly dogs, Boomba and Gimpy. They were really friendly dogs that would watch over the resort. The housecleaning service was topnotch. All of the staff at the resort were wonderful. Kent would always welcome you into his office if you had a question or wanted to borrow a movie to watch on the DVR in the room. Neighboring restaurants and resorts widening our dining options and entertainment options. There is a wonderful dolphin show and museum at the nearby Anthony Key's resort. We highly recommend the Blue Bahia to everyone. Than you, Kent and the Blue Bahia staff and friends for providing us with a memorable vacation.---Michael & Diana

Our family of 4 stayed in the kings and queens unit. The unit was a nice size for us and was more than comfortable. We used the kitchen only once as they gave us breakfast every morning and we always had leftovers. I have a more detailed review of the unit on vrbo. The manager and owner of some of the units is Kent Burnes, he is extremely helpful and was ready to give us advice on where to go and what to eat. Joanna the housekeeper and Phillip the maintenance man were also friendly and helpful. Joanna even helped us get some baleadas (Roatan burrito) from a local restaurant that were delivered to us and then she served us!!
The pool was clean and refreshing to jump in after a dive. The tree over the pool drops leaves, I think, in the spring only. Watch for bats in the evening they swoop in low and get some water from the pool. Pretty cool.
One of the shining stars of the resort was George Lemus (RoatanCustomTours.com), he picked us up from the airport, took us to the local grocery store and was basically at our disposal when ever we needed him during our stay. I highly recommend you hang out with him for an island tour or what ever you need or want arranged, he seems to know everything and everyone on the island. He has a wonderful positive attitude and is a true ambassador for the island of Roatan. He is more of a concierge than the taxi driver!
The reef is approximately 300 yards off the beach, a real easy swim and is beautiful. We were able to get to the front reef without problems, you just have to search for the clearing from the back reef. We spotted all kinds of fish, turtles, rays, squid and cuttle fish.
The restaurant attached to the resort was excellent.I have a separate review of the restaurant on tripadvisor. We highly recommend this resort. Check out all the units I think some are nicer than others. Important to note! bring sunscreen and bug spray the no seeums are bad! Didn't see too many mosquitos.

Room Tip: check out all the units on vrbo or contact Kent directly at Blue Bahia

I went to the Blue Bahia last week! OH my Gosh! It so exceeded any expectations I could have had. It was so real. A family owned business. The best surprise of all was the BREAKFAST SERVED TO ME IN MY ROOM OR AT THE POOL SIDE every morning. Not just a danish or bagel. It was cooked with love every morning by the owner Kent. Fresh squeezed orange juice, poached eggs, french toast, sausage, fresh fruit ect......need I say more? Thank you Kent and Nancy for being such wonderful host and hostess. I miss you guys and the staff.

we liked our place- we stayed in the loft- the airconditioning was great- we always had filtered water to drink, and had a kitchen to cook in, although we ate in West-End 98% of the time- it is a short 5 min. cab ride to get great affordable dinners. there wasn't a nice cozy commons area to hang out in to bond w/ the other travelers since the pool was out of commition while we were there- we didn't feel comfortable just hanging in the restaurant, and not great to hang on our porch really because of plastic patio chairs. We loved the snorkeling off the dock, and also Kent was very nice, and set up excursions for us that we wanted to book. The restaurant is now seperate from the resort, and we thought it was a bit overpriced, and you can find excellent food on the island for less. if you are looking for a white sandy beach, this is not it, but, we did not want to be in the crowds and crazy tourist scene- wear shoes while walking in the sand beyond the resort- other owners don't clean up broken glass very well. we loved the snorkeling in the reef beyond the dock- we saw some great sealife, and my boy was amazed.

Room Tip: Ask Kent to set up a day playing around the Island w/George- he spent the entire day taking us all o...

Let's just say, I grew to really like this place. At first I wasn't terribly impressed. It's compact and not as clean as I would have liked. As others have said, there is a beautiful tree that shades most of the resort that was totally dropping all kinds of debris into the pool and all around the resort. I was told this only happens every couple years and I witnessed the staff constantly cleaning up after it. The outside chairs both at the beach and outside the room could use replacing. Our room (Kings and Queen) was small but fine for the 3 of us. Air conditioning, TVs and Internet worked fine. There was coffee and filtered water always available. Breakfast is no longer at the restaurant but brought to the room at the time you request. One morning it was pancakes and fruit, once eggs and sausage, once French toast and fruit. My favorite was yogurt with fruit and granola. Breakfast always was served with bread to toast and fresh squeezed orange juice. Not exactly huge but plenty to start the day.
There were several things about Blue Bahia that really make it stand out. First of all, the small family atmosphere created a sense of community. Lots of time was spent diving, relaxing and hanging out with others at the resort. The on site restaurant is a destination itself. It also encouraged visiting with other families, staff and the new owners (nice to see fellow Midwesterners!). I fell in love with the resident dogs and would have loved to add them to our brood at home. I think they recognized us as "dog people" (bites of turkey and cheese didn't hurt either) so they accompanied us on all our walks on the beach and hung out on our porch. Also having a small kitchen and daily maid service was nice. The place caters to divers which makes it reasonable and convenient. I would definitely stay here again.

Blue Bahia is a nice alternative to the crowded West Bay. It is a short cab ride to West End and there are dozens of dinner choices there. You could just stay home and eat at Blue Bahia restaurant, which is very good.

The beach on this side of the island is not as nice as West Bay and there are some cars that drive on the beach, but aside from that the beach is fine. You are very close to dive sites, Anthony's Key, and Octopus Dive Center is on the premises and they are very good and price competitive.

The pool left a little to be desired. There is a huge tree next to it and all the leaves and nuts were falling in the pool making the water cloudy.

They bring breakfast to your room daily and it is fine, not great but fine. The people who run the place are very nice and I would stay there again.

We travelled last minute to Roatan and were thrilled to obtain last minute accommodations with the good people of Blue Bahia resort. Despite the weather not cooperating and a scheduled electricity outage throughout the entire island, the staff was helpful and accommodating to our family.
Steps from the beach, great scuba diving and a short walk to Anthony's key resort made this an affordable option. We stayed in the kings and queens room and found the place to be sufficient for our family of four.
