“Charming, romantic... and a deer farm!”
Reviewed 24 April 2011

My boyfriend and I stayed at Land's End for nine days. We were not disappointed! The room was beautiful, simple, and romantic. There's a nice back porch with a hammock and 180 degree view of the ocean. The bed was so comfortable (I wake up daily with back pain but none on that bed!) Adi and Eva were really nice and arranged a great boating/snorkeling trip around the island. The town was about five minutes away, filled with pretty good to excellent restaurants (the Thai place especially).

We looked around at the other places to stay, and Adi's was the best for the price. Adi arranges for free transportation to and from the airport (the taxis aren't cheap there). Oh yeah- there are several deer who live on the premises and its so relaxing to watch them.

Thanks, Adi and Eva, for a great vacation!

My girlfriend and I have stayed at Lands End a few times now over the years and have found it to be a great way to experience all of the fun on Roatan without all of the chaos and noise. Such a short walk from west end, you can celebrate on the town and five min later be surrounded by awesome scenery and calm! We were lucky to be there last time when the weather was coming in to see the waves crashing on the iron shore. Quite spectacular. Normally on a budget we have only stayed in the cheaper rooms and have been fully satisfied with the amenities and overly satisfied with the service. Adi helped us out when we had to stay two extra days due to the storm and made what could have been a stressful situation and awesome continuation of vacation! Oh yea, I also had my mom stay here when she visited recently and she was ecstatic! The restaurant and bar are very nice with good portions and nice pours! We will always contact them first for availability when we go to Roatan!

My husband and I met in Roatan after some time apart and were just looking for a quiet setting for a reasonable price with decent access to everything else the island has to offer. And we got just that. We stayed in one of the cheaper rooms with the "garden view". The room has all the basics - hot running water (just wait a couple minutes after turning it on), good AC and a large comfortable bed. Really - what more do you need in a room when you are coming to a Caribbean island? Cool, clean and comfortable. If you want a 5 star resort Roatan probably isn't the island for you.
The main drag of west end is a short stroll away (perfect to avoid the noise from the partying, or close enough to join in if you choose) and west bay is about an hour walk down the beach or a $2.50 water taxi ride. There is no beach front, instead they are located on the iron shore which has its own unique beauty. The snorkeling right in front of the hotel was great - a little nerve wracking though cause quite a few boats go by - just keep an eye out!
The lounge/bar/pool area were well kept and great to eat breakfast, relax in a hammock or have a drink and watch the sunset. My husband's only suggestion is that they should do a happy hour at the bar - we probably would've had more drinks there.
Ava and Adi were extremely helpful with any questions and wanted to ensure we had everything we needed. They are also very willing to help set up any other activities you may be interested in.
Overall we were very satisfied with our stay and would certainly stay there again.

We were looking for exactly this place. We have travelled the world and have stayed in rough backpackers hostels to 5 star hotels. Land's End can't really be rated on that scale. I read some of the criticisms of other reviewers and while I can't dispute them I think this is a kind of spot that it doesn't matter after you've settled in. Yes, there is a bit of peeling paint (it's on a spit of land jutting into the salty spray) and might benefit from a few decor upgrades but it's perfectly comfortable and clean. The staff are cheerful and helpful. Adi was always about in the morning to sit with everyone at breakfast and give his advice on the what-to-do-today question. He helped us arrange a rental car and organized a fantastic all day boat tour of the island. We saw places that are only accessible by water, snorkeled in places called The Garden of Eden, and watched the huge cruise ships dis-gorge theirs hordes of tourists, from afar. That's when we knew we had chosen the right place to stay. Our "ship" had only 7 passengers and we "cruised" through the narrow mangrove swamps and heard the island history and lore from out captain, a cracker jack of a Brit with an acerbic sense of humor. We also came across 2 couples who were stranded out on a tiny island. Their motor was kaput and their captain had no phone, tools, or money. Luckily for them that our captain was able to get them going again because he was well equipped and capable. They had most likely picked up a bargain deal in town.
Land's End is more of an experience than a place to stay. If you care about boutique amenities and a "resort" atmosphere than this place isn't for you. But if you are looking for a relaxed escape and a way to fall into island time then this is it. And you'll find other like-minded guests as well. Uppity types will be long gone.
Thank you Adi and Eva and the rest of the staff. We will be back!

Room Tip: The rooms facing the sea are best.

Spent 2 wonderful weeks between Roatan and Utila starting March 21st. Our last 4 nights on Roatan were spent at Lands End Resort. After reading the previous reviews I must say that our rooms were more than adequate. The views were spectacular and Eva and her staff kept them absolutely spotless. The actual grounds leave something to be desired. The sand between the main area and the cottages is all that is really maintained. Construction on part of the facilities is being done and at no time is their materials ever cleaned up. It is just left piled in the yard. The area in front of the Ocean front rooms is left in a state that doesn't allow anyone to enjoy it and is more of an eyesore than anything. The lounge chairs are mostly un-useable with the broken ones left sitting around the yard. The main facility washroom is also mostly unusable seemingly being used by everyone on the island and never cleaned. The entry into the ocean is dangerous and really does need some sort of platform built before some one hurts themselves on the coral The main dining area has very few Utensils or glasses or cups and the ones that are there are a mix and match set. Breakfasts prepared by Carmen were always Great but a better selection of fruits would also be nice. The bar is usually never cleaned up and GETTING ICE is almost impossible.Buy and Ice Maker!!
This review makes it sound like we didn't have a good time there. Quite the opposite. it just could use a little more attention to detail and a general sprucing up with a few plants and a few loads of sand or gravel. May-be if the manager (Addy) was able to spend a bit more time taking care of these issues as opposed to practicing the base, playing in 2-3 bands and diving the resort would get better reviews.
I must add that Addy and Eva were always accommodating to any of our questions about the island and more than willing to pick us up or drop us off at any destination.
Love the Ring game. it will travel to Canada with us.

The area in front of the Ocean Front Buildings is called iron shore and consists of ancient reef, the very ground the whole island stand on. It is totally natural and part of the reef eco system. We will include this information in our future orientations at check in.

ICE...
The first day we provided ice from our bar stock so that the group could settle in after a long trip over from Utila without having to go shopping. Soon it became clear that free ice would be expected all day long all the time. We do not offer, advertise or promote 24hrs ice supply, free or paid, now or in the near future. A change of this policy will be communicated.

Lands End has a restaurant and a bar (the only one in the area).
Thus we do not advertise or promote self catering online, on site or anywhere else.
The opening hours of the bar and restaurant (5-9pm) are tailored towards the majority of our guests.

The construction
As described in detail on our website, one of the rooms "FARO" had a small bathroom. Despite the fact that the description is painfully accurate and honest we did received a number of negative comments on it, including reviews on the present platform.
We realized that being honest about it was not enough - it is true, the bathroom was small after all - we decided to change the situation ASAP.

During the renovation time we did not accept any bookings in that same building and kept noisy work to a minimum. We apologize if the construction material was not cleared fast enough. Perhaps we should have boarded up the area to avoid unpleasant views.

The breakfast
Currently our breakfast consists of Coffee, Tea, Toast, Marmelades, Butter, Corn Flakes, Granola, Papaya, Water Melon, Cantaloupe and Pinapple and a plate of Eggs & Bacon.

We serve only fresh seasonal fruit, produced in Honduras, purchased from a local vegetable distributor.

The island does not have extensive orchards and plantations. All fruits and vegetables are imported from the mainland. The delivery truck comes every morning with everything that is available at the moment.
Supermarkets in Coxen Hole and French Harbour offer a larger variety of imported goods, including star fruits from Chile, Strawberries from Argentina, Apples from Venezuela, etc.
You are welcome to complement our breakfast with anything you find there.

Many guests ask me if I was a diver and - living in Roatan - if I get to dive a lot. My next answer will be: Yes, i get to dive once in 3 months. It is such an unusual event that the last time I did it you could read about it on tripadvisor.

I play bass in 2 bands, one does never ever rehearse and plays on friday nights in French Harbour. Once in a while there is another gig. The other band just formed recently and does not play life yet. During the time of their stay I practiced once in the bar and once in my quarters.

Everybody has a private life. My occasional rehearsals and dives did not have a direct negative impact on your stay. It would be greatly appreciated if you did not discuss my private life on tripadvisor. Thank you.

My husband Ross & I spent 3 weeks (Feb 18- Mar 12) at Land’s End and had the best, relaxing time!! Reading some of the reviews I am sad that a few people did not enjoy their stay. Adi & Eva’s smiling faces met us at the airport and the adventure began. We stayed in the beach front, top floor “Wahoo” king room. It was a large room and had everything that we needed, especially the view of the ocean & evening sunset from the balcony. Breakfast was included which was great. Carmen, Elsa & Mercedes, three delightful ladies greeted you each morning with a smile. You just needed to ask and they would make sure you got what you needed. They cooked the meals as well as cleaned the rooms. In the evening everyone would slowly make their way to the onsite bar to watch the sunset, enjoy a drink & discuss what their day was like or what they saw on their days dive. We met some really great, fun people from all over the world during our stay.

We cannot talk about our experience without mentioning Joe the bartender. Who needs to go into town when you have your own entertainment right in the complex? Be prepared for the Friday night dance on the bar!! Adi & Joe have perfected the “ring / hook” game with Joe actually reaching “World Champion” status.
You have all probably seen the pictures of the deer. They are even cuter in real life and we looked forward to interacting with them every day.

Ross dives and I read. So this was the perfect spot to do both. He chose to dive with Seagrape (right next door) where Joe is also one of the dive masters. He thoroughly enjoyed his experience diving with them. (He will do a trip report on Seagrape separately)

The walk into town was approx 10 minutes where there were many restaurants for us to choose from for lunch and dinner. Meals are large so we learned to share one. (Lunch favorites: burritos at Anthony’s Chicken, burritos & quesadillas at Cannibal, Noodle Shack) It was always nice to get into the salt water pool after the hot walk back from lunch. There are a few super mini marts for you to pick up drinks and snacks for your room. The larger, closer one, Woody’s does not sell beer and is closed Saturdays till 6pm.

There are mosquitoes, sand fleas/no see’ums and yes ants live there as well. We sprayed ourselves each time we went out, even if it was just to the lounge area. The beautiful beach areas of West Bay & Half Moon Bay are known for sand fleas so after the sun screen apply bug spray all over. We brought some hydro-cortisone cream that helped with the itch. We rented a car and drove up island - lots of dirt roads getting to some places, but it was interesting to see how people of Roatan live. Adi can also arrange for boat excursions around the island to places you can only get to by boat with great snorkeling. He is a great source of information and an interesting man to talk to. As Adi took over this property 4 years ago, he is steadily working at maintaining & making improvements to the grounds & buildings along with Alfredo who helps him. It’s a lot of work especially trying to get needed supplies on the island. Between running to the airport to pick up guests and ensuring everyone is happy it was nice to see him able to take a dip in the pool - twice!!

This was our first visit to Roatan and as Honduras is considered a 3rd world country, we weren’t expecting much except the basics. Yes the power went out and water ran out a few times but never for long. These events also affected everyone else in the area, not just Land’s End. Adi had to empty the pool for a day or two so that he could do his regular clean as there are no chemicals in it, but those were the days we went to one of the beaches. These events may have been a slight inconvenience but certainly not a catastrophe. On average most guests were there for 1 week but for us being there 3 weeks it quickly felt like home, with Adi, Joe & Eva becoming friends. Thank you all for making our visit memorable and welcoming us into your family. Kathy & Ross

I'm not sure that i was in the same place as the people who wrote all of these reviews. The web site at lands end was very deceiving. The rooms are depicted to be very nice and well manicured which they simply are not. we killed several cockroaches in our room which wasn't that big of a deal because I realize that we where after all in a third world country. The property was not well maintained at all. There was garbage all around and, power tools stored in corners and a wasp infestation in a common area. all of this was bare-able but not what we expected at all. The worst part was that it seemed to be a bit of a hostel environment. We felt as though we where burdening the owner by asking him anything at all because he was constantly buzzing around making a big deal out of little issues. At the end of our trip he actually told us what to tip and then counted our tip in front of us as to make sure that it was sufficient, and I am still not sure what I tipped for. The bar was quite nice and the sunset was amazing. It was very quiet which is hard to find on the island and the pet deer where very entertaining. The staff was nice and seemed interested in making you happy. All and all it was bare-able but all of the small things added up to make me never want to return to Lands End again. We spent the second half of our trip at a less expensive place down the street and found it to be much cleaner and friendlier.
