Stayed next door @ The Wood House for a two week vacation recently, and wholeheartedly recommend The Lily Pond House restaurant/bar for dinner and/or drinks (& everyone I spoke w/ staying there loved their accommodations). Zak & Luis (sp?) have crafted an excellent space & atmosphere, warmly welcoming patrons in for a great island dining/drinking experience. Do try their lobster, shrimp, and fish combo (The Fisherman Platter) w/ tostones & veggies.

My husband and I just returned from a week at Lily Pond and it was absolutely wonderful. We are SCUBA divers and have traveled many places, this place is a real gem. Our hosts, Zach & Luis were fabulous and made us feel very welcome.

We stayed in the Garden Suite which is on the first floor and it was perfect for us as we left each morning to go diving. All rooms are lovely and nicely furnished. The air conditioning worked perfectly, we had no issues with musty smells or odors as that can occur sometimes with rain. They provided service to our room as requested, they had endless beach towels and assistance around the island.

The breakfast is absolutely delicious - their juices are fresh squeezed, they provide freshly prepared fruit and other omelettes and egg dishes, sausage, ham, toast, etc. We also ate dinner several times and after visiting other restaurants on the island, we found that Lily Pond offered the best food on the island. We still visited other places as we wanted to experience the local flavor, but we kept coming back to Luis for dinner - he is truly a fabulous chef. The restaurant sold out a few nights while we were there so if you plan to eat dinner, we strongly encourage reservations as we saw them turn people away - the food is that good!

Zach assisted us with an Island Tour and we spent the day with Orlando who was wonderful. He drove us around the island, we spent time in French Key, which was wonderful. He was kind, courteous, he knew a lot of history and was a delightful tour guide. His vehicle was a Toyota 4x4 and easily climbed some fabulous hills which offered amazing views.

Zach also connected us with SCUBA Roatan and Rino/Amanda staff were spectacular. It is just a few steps away from Lily Pond and the quality of diving was superb.

During our stay, I had a cold and Luis prepared homemade tea for me, it was his mother's recipe. It was lovely and delicious and I really appreciated the personal touch. We also loved their dogs, they are sweet and adorable and they were not a nuisance. We truly felt like family!

Overall, a wonderful trip and perfect guest house.

Room Tip: Garden room is perfect, it is on the main level, easy access.

The Lily Pond House HAS TO BE the most perfect place to spend a vacation! Zak and Luis are so accommodating that they become fast friends immediately. The house is located on a quiet, private street which is a 2-3 minute walk from all the action/bars...a plus after a day of diving, sunning and rum punches! The beach is also 2-3 minutes away and its gorgeous!
Luis makes a wonderful breakfast of anything YOU want, at anytime YOU want, in the morning. No signs posted "breakfast served from 7-9am" here!
We staying for a week in the Penthouse room and it was beautiful! Private entrance, 2 balconies (1 with a table and chairs...hand carved!), lots of light, A/C that felt awesome when you walked in. Comfy bed and great shower.
We also had our own private security : ) Amy, the pooch that they rescued, slept outside our door every night...btw..she loves belly rubs!
All in all, everything was great! i can't say a negative thing about The Lily Pond House B&B.
thank you Zak and Luis for a wonderful time!

We stayed at the LiIly Pond House for 3 nights. The rooms are well maintained with wood floors, cultural decor, and cleanliness. We loved the bed and slept well all 3 nights undisturbed. We stayed on the 2nd floor and had a nice sized deck with beautiful wooden chairs and a table where we could take our breakfast.that Luis made custom- from excellent egg omelettes to a generous portion of fresh fruit salad, or home-made bread and fried potatoes- he and Zach were willing to accommodate anything.
Zach, the ex-pat who visited Honduras 8 years ago and decided he liked it so much he wanted to stay, is extremely friendly and was more than willing to give us his local perspective on everything and graciously offered for us to borrow a phone from him with his number in it in case anything happened. He even offered to drive us to the airport at the end of our stay. This place made you feel more like a friend than a visitor.

Things to note:
Lily Pond is within easy walking distance- minutes to West End, and perfectly situated near Sundowners where we ended most nights.
Bring a flashlight- Lily Pond has a generator but the electricity on Roatan tends to go out so be prepared to be walking in the dark if you're headed downtown like us.

Long story short, we would recommend Lily Pond House to anyone looking to experience Roatan and escape the dreaded all-inclusive or extreme budget backpacker options

Room Tip: 2nd floor,

Overall we had a good time at the Lily Pond house. The owners - Zak and Luis - were very nice and personable. The location was great - it was right off the main road in West End so it offered you something off the beaten path. They also have three dogs that roam around the courtyard and are all really cute and sweet and they help you feel a bit safer at night. Breakfast every morning was reliable, you could let them know when you wanted to have breakfast and Luis made great omelets and fruit salad.

The layout of the Lily Pond House means that there are three rooms, all pretty much equal in size in the first, second, and third floor. We stayed for a week in the garden room, which is the ground floor room. While we liked Zak and Luis personally, we felt that we needed to let other fellow travelers know about some issues we had.

1. The Garden room is really really musty. I suspect that most people stay on the 2nd and 3rd floor and we only ended up in the garden room because it was at capacity. Talking with our fellow guests and peeking in their rooms, it appears that the garden room isn't as great as the other two. After we got home, it became apparent to us how bad the problem is - everything we brought reeked and needed washing, some twice.

2. It's a lively house where music is played from 9AM to around 10PM in the evenings. The ground floor/entrance area/bar is essentially Zak and Luis' entertaining area. They sit there and listen to music and sometimes watch tv on a large outdoor screen and being so nice, always had a lot of people that liked to come and visit. While this was great on most days, it became a nuisance when we wanted to sleep in or have a quiet relaxing night. We think that the situation would have been much better if we were on a different floor as the door to the garden room opens out to the bar/entertaining area of the Lily Pond House.

3. The linens and towels were not that great. Our bedding had a fairly large burn in it from a cigarette or candle, and the towels were a ratty mix of beach and shower towels. The shower itself was also not in the best shape. All in all not that large a deal, but given the price premium we paid compared to other places in Roatan, we were pretty surprised.

4. Again, for the price, we thought that it would have been appropriate to get regular room cleanings and access to bottled water as we've seen at other places where you cannot drink the local water. A nice 5 gallon water cooler would have went a long way, but instead we found ourselves having to lug in water from the convenience store down the road. Regarding the cleanings, we were told they only enter the room if you ask, which to be honest felt awkward. We felt strange asking them to do something we consider standard so we didn't. The only thing we did ask for was a new set of sheets half way through our stay -- they did replace the sheets but they were the same poor quality as the previous set, and the blanket with the large burn mark remained.

To be fair, it was very difficult to communicate these things because when you stay at a B&B, it *does* feel like staying at a friends house. You sometimes have to go with the flow of how they do things, but between the music and the mustiness, we found ourselves wanting to spend very little time there, which we were hoping from the reviews would be a good place to hang our hat while we enjoyed Roatan.

So in short, don't stay in the garden room and stay here if you like to meet a lot of people and like lively music.

Room Tip: Third floor room for the most privacy.

I am so glad we found the Lily Pond House in Roatan via Tripadvisor for our recent trip. The place is done nicely by the owner, Zak and you can see his care in every corner of the house. Our room on the third floor was great with a balcony. Luis the chef whips out meals beautifully in his kitchen and they were both great hosts. I had a medical emergency during my trip and Zak drove us to the emergency care center and made sure that everything was okay with us. What we experience at the Lily Pond House was a friendship, not a business transaction. Even though we had a storm and raining days during our trip, our trip was saved by the two wonderful hosts.
I strongly recommend the Lily Pond House for those who appreciate the little things in life.

P.S:
Bring your own soap/shampoo/conditioner; water pressure is uneven - it's in an island. A hairdryer in the bathroom came handy.
Oh and I have to mention the dogs; Zak and Luis take care of a handful of friendly dogs who are very respectable to the guests.

Fantastic bed and breakfast. Zach, the owner, is a fantastic guy and will go out of his way to make you feel welcome, from picking you up at the airport, to giving you a brief tour around West End, to politely declining and then graciously accepting the tip at the end of your trip. The beatiful decor and the fact that it is slightly removed from the main strip make it an ideal spot to relax (as if you needed any help with that in Roatan. I would recommend this place to anyone.

Room Tip: Note: there is no fitness center or pool, but I can't erase the rating. All the rooms are wond...
