What Ben said?
We originally booked into Cocolobo as it was close to our recommended PADI Dive center “Coconut Tree Divers”. We planned to stay there 4 nights while we completed our PADI certifications. The west village was our preferred location as we wanted a variety of restaurants and shops rather than an all inclusive or resort vacation. During and after our course we explored the other options in Roatan as we were there for 10 days. We literally couldn’t find a place we like better. West Bay has amazing beach and snorkeling but the atmosphere is very resort with staff that seem like they really want to be somewhere else. Cocolobo is conveniently a 10 min walk from the west village with many restaurant options; it’s a quite comfortable eco resort with friendly and helpful hosts Bonnie and Ron.

What Olga said?
At first, I said, Ben's review is much better... and then I said:
We only booked 4 nights of stay, as we figured the location was great: very close to Coconut Tree Divers shop we were getting our open water diver certification and all the restaurants at the west end village. Our plan was to move to west end bay once we were done. When we arrived, Ron, the mngr of Cocolobo, personally picked us up. At the property, we were greeted by his charming wife, Bonnie, and welcomed into our comfortable and spacious room with the ocean view. Over our stay, Ron and Bonnie were incredibly kind hosts: Bonnie and Ron are this incredibly happily married couple that just spread this amazing vibe of happiness and easiness of just being, which is exactly what you need when vacationing. They made multiple great suggestions on how to spend time on Roatan (this island has really much more to offer then just diving, so listed to R and B). And I can assure you, you will have a drink or two, and a very thoughtful conversation with both of them while you are staying at Cocolobo (Ron, loves red wine). Out relocation to west bay, after we were done with our certification, has never happened. This turned out to be a very undesirable location from our point of view: lots of cruise ship tourists and local people trying to sell you whatever there is to sell on Roatan, plus huge "all you can eat resorts". And since we had such a great time at Cocolobo, we were not even looking for something else at west end village. We just booked another 5 days there. Unfortunately, Bonnie was gone by then (she went to see her grand kinds in Canada), but Ron was the best host we ever had.
Now, about property itself. The beach is rocky, you won't be able to go for a swim there, and however, Half Moon Bay is just steps away. Yet there is an incredible beauty in this rough nature of the place. You will enjoy sunrises and sunsets (bring your camera), very well kept pool, fresh fruit, yogurt and granola breakfast (they also offer hardy meals that incl egg, bacon and stuff), and of course Bonnie's and Ron's hospitality. Btw, Ron sings and he also plays guitar, so make sure to ask if he is performing while you are staying at the beautiful Cocolobo.
P.S. ask them about massage service.

Ron and Bonnie are wonderful hosts, and the location is great: it is a five minute walk from the main strip of West End, which is, for people who like nightlife, a better option to stay vs West Bay (only resorts - nice beach, but a quick two dollar water taxi away). Ron and Bonnie did everything they could to make our stay the best it could be, despite the awful weather the week we were there, and we will most certainly be back. One night when the power was out in West End, Ron even came looking for us in town to give us a flashlight for the walk home - in the end we hitched a ride, but this was a perfect example of the type of hosts Ron and Bonnie are. Breakfast is great every day, and you meet really friendly people at the resort. Every room faces the ocean too.

Bonnie and Ron are great hosts of the B&B type resort. They are attentive to every request, friendly and entertaining while being unobtrusive. The rooms, all with refrigerators, safes, TV's, great showers, and comfortable beds are larger than expected. The location is perfect as a slow 6 minute walk brings you to the edge of town. The town has some decent restaurants that we liked: The Lighthouse, Rotisserie Chicken and The Cannibal Cafe. The deck of the common room has an infinity pool with a wonderful view of the coral strewn, coast line. The waves, generally moderate height, break upon the coral offering opportunities for wonderful spray filled photos of an incredible vista. The four breakfasts that we had were all above average and individually prepared. We had an extremely relaxing time with easy access to snorkeling. This is a comfortable place to rest, sleep and visit with many ex-pats around the bar, after a tiring day of diving. If you want a Caribbean diving experience on a Honduran Island where English is the first language, this is the place to come.

My wife and I had the pleasure of staying at Cocolobo for two weeks from Dec. 19, 2009 thru Jan. 2, 2010. We can't say enough about our Hosts Ron & Bonnie and the staff they have assembled. They were kind, caring and truely interested in seeing you were comfortable and having a good time. The Coffee/Juice and Fruit/Cereal Bar was great ! Most mornings I was too full to even eat the Hot Plate that Hiedi would prepare fresh at your request. The air condition worked so well that we actually had to turn it off at night and the Television had fresh cable installed while we were there so the TV works great now with all the stations available. On Christmas Morning Ron and Bonnie hosted a brunch for their close friends and guests. The food was the best and the mood was very festive. We were very honored to attend. The daily happy hour from 4-7 was fun, having a few Cold Beverages and enjoying conversation with Ron, Bonnie and the other guests prior to our heading into town for dinner. Ron Sggested we Try West End Divers for our dive operation and that really made huge differences in our over all enjoyment of our trip to Roatan. Thanks again guys for everything ! Gary and Tresa

On the positive side:

*Beautiful ocean views from rooms (but no beach access)
*Cable TV
*Mini-fridge
*Air conditioner
*Free water
*Friendly hosts
*Good book selection left from previous guests
*Nice, small pool
*Good breakfasts
*Small floor safe in room

On the negative side:
*Cleanliness did not meet my expectation. There were used plastic spoons on top of the mini-fridge along with a coating of dust that must have taken months to accumulate. The bathroom sink had a ring of dirt at the drain. Some towels had unpleasant stains. Bathroom floor and shower tiles needed a good scrubbing (and repair of a lot of missing grout).
*No soap in room first night.
*Cable TV service was very poor and spotty. At times we received only 10 or so channels clearly with some channels (ESPN and other U.S. channels being available maybe only at night or not at all).

Overall, I enjoyed Roatan and staying here, but I have to rate "average" due to cleanliness issues and TV issues. If not for those, probably would have rated four stars.

My husband and I had a great trip to Roatan in August. We stayed at Coco Lobo for the entire trip and were very happy with our decision. Ron and Bonnie were great hosts- we loooked forward to having breakfast with them in the mornings. They were gracious enough to take us to West Bay on our second day, and we had a great time drinking pina coladas and chatting while relaxing by the beach. I'm sure we'll go back to Roatan next year and we'll stay at Coco Lobo again on our next trip. The location was perfect- a short stroll to all the restuarants and bars, and the view was serene. Great all around!

Cocolobo is the best place to stay on Roatan. At least that is our impression after spending four weeks on Roatan - 9 days of them with Ron and Bonnie at Cocolobo.

The location is perfect - a short walk from West End, facing west over the Caribbean for stunning sunsets. Our room (Mangrove) was spacious, comfortable and clean. Air conditioning, TV, homemade soaps and an ipod dock were welcome. The bed is super comfortable. The large balcony looked out onto the ocean and was furnished with hammock and comfy deck chair. The infinity pool was great for cooling down or kicking back beside. Breakfast was excellent. Coffee, orange juice, fruit salad and cereals were complimented by a hot dish option that changed each day...the corn tortillas made by Olivia should not be missed!

Ron and Bonnnie are the perfect hosts and manage Cocolobo expertly. They are thoughtful, attentive and great company. We enjoyed many evenings in the bar, long after enjoying the sunset, chatting with them. They know the island very well, have plenty of good recommendations (whether for restaurants, dive shops or West End bars) and take great pride in the level of service they provide. We really enjoyed our time at Cocolobo and look forward to being welcomed back by Ron and Bonnie in the future.
