“Great staff and a great place to stay and dive”
Reviewed 6 April 2008

My sister and I stayed at the Sea Grape in March 2008. We spent a few nights in the hotel rooms, then moved to one of the cabins facing the water. The hotel room was fine. However, we enjoyed the cabin more - it had a porch with a hammock facing the water.
The location is great. About a 5-10 minute walk into West End, with restaurants, bars, etc. Then you could go home to the Sea Grape (it was safe for 2 women to walk back at night) and enjoy the quiet. Be sure to bring a Flashlight. Like others have posted, the power went out almost every day. But, the Sea Grape has a generator - we always had lights and air condiitoning. They also give you a small fridge, which was helpful. Didn't have problems with mosquitoes, but we used DEET. They do not serve breakfast, but you can walk 5 minutes to a breakfast place. They also have a nice pool area. The Sea Grape also leaves you filtered water every day.
The staff was also terrific. Mariela in the office was very helpful and pleasant. She helped us arrange a rental car, the shark dive, and a trip to Gumba Limba park. There is Internet access at the office, which was pretty cheap.
We also went diving. The nice thing about diving with Sea Grape is that they generally have a small number of people diving. No cattle boat. We had anywhere from 2-11 divers, usually about 6-8. Louis is an excellent dive master and really enjoys sharing his underwater world. He loves to show lots of critters, including an octopus, lobsters, turtles, shrimp, and a moray eel. He also took us on a night dive (I think you need a minimum of 3 people). Can't recommend him enough. Comfortable boat, good rental equipt. They let you leave all your dive equip't in a locked room each evening, so you don't have to carry it each day.
Overall, the Sea Grape is not a fancy Hilton, but a comfortable, family-run place which goes the extra step to take care of their guests.

  • Liked — Great staff, great diving, close enough to town without being too close, generator, fridge

We planned on staying at the Seagrape for a week but loved it so much we extended our trip to 10 days. Excellent location, nice and quiet and only a few minutes walk into all of the amenities that the West End has to offer. The staff who work here are absolutely amazing. Incredibly friendly and accomodating. We rarely go back to the same place more then once but will be definitely be going back to the Seagrape.

My husband and I are both divers and for the first time in a long time, we went back to the same place two years in a row. We have truly fallen in love with the island and this is such a great place to stay that I wouldn't think of staying any place else.

Mariela in the office is great and Louis at the dive shop runs a first rate place. It is secluded enough for a quiet evening, but a short walk into west end will get you whatever you need for the day. The power goes out a fair amount on the island and they have a generator that a lot of other places don't have.

Also, they are on "the iron coast" area and there is a breeze, so the mosquitoes and other bugs are not bad. I would know as I am one of those people who will find the mosquitos if there are any to be had and then I swell up and itch. The past two years, I came home with a few, but I have gotten far more here at home.

I highly recommend the resort and the dive shop and we plan to go back in the coming years.

We loved staying at the Seagrape! Mariella at the front desk is wonderful. If we needed anything (and almost everyday we did need something), whether it was a ride, reservations somewhere else on the island, money exchanged, or whatever, she was more than happy to accomodate us. Everyone at the dive shop was friendly and helpful. You can get a hotel/dive package here for a great price. The cabins with the hammocks on the water are the way to go! The location is excellent, as it is just a short walk to the beach, bars, and tons of restaurants. We will definitely be back!

Our trip to Roatan was so great. It was above what I imagined. We had contacted Tropicalrez, and they guided us through our choices, and helped us to chose Seagrape Plantation. ( Contact: [--] Seagrape has really cute cabins on the ocean front and other hotel rooms behind. There is a new pool and really nice staff. The best thing is that you in West End but not in the middle of the hustle and bustle of it all. I can not wait for my next trip back.

Great place and you're not going to find a better value than this. Very clean and comfortable rooms. Ice cold A/C. We had one of the cottages by the water and enjoyed our days on the hammock on the porch. Pool was very clean. Incredibly helpful and friendly staff who did everything from exchanging money to making phone calls for making reservations at other destinations in Honduras. The dive shop also had very friendly staff and, as a rusty diver, made me feel incredibly comfortable. Located minutes walking from the Half Moon Bay. I would definitely stay here again.

This hotel had the friendliest service. The area is quiet and beautiful. We stayed in a cabana/cottage which was a simple room with one queen and one twin bed, it had air conditioning, a refrigerator, and although not too big it was perfect for us. This cabana has a hammock on the balcony and has beautiful views of the ocean. A small are of dried up reef separates the cabana and the ocean, A beautiful pool was being built right near the water when I was there, but I can see from pictures that it is now up and running. The price is extremely reasonable, just $55 per night for a cabana on the water! Just a short walk to the town where there are many shops and restaurants, and a short water taxi to the West Bay, snorkeling was wonderful here, but it can get really crowded here. In my opinion, the best place to stay, you are close enough to all of the activities on the island, but not in the middle of it all, so it is very relaxing. Perfect place to stay for a great price!
