“Great Time!”
Reviewed 14 May 2014

Had a great stay at the Seagrape Plantation in January 2014. Unfortunately, we didn't have the best weather the first few days so we hung out in our bungalow and on the porch most of the time but that's okay. The staff were incredibly knowledgeable about the area and beyond friendly. I'd highly recommend this place!

Our experience really started long before we even arrived on the bay islands, as Maria and Jessica were so helpful arranging airport pickups, activities and provided travel advice. Upon pickup from the airport, we were warmly greeted and loaded into an air conditioned vehicle. Along the way Jessica pointed out many features of the island and stopped at a local supermarket to help us buy any snacks and drinks we may require during our stay.

We were quickly checked in and used the safe to secure valuables. We were then shown to our rooms, which was quite spacious and had a great ocean view, AC, a hammock, small desk, extra bed and lots of storage/ hanging space. There was wifi available at reception and near the other hotel style rooms. A pot of coffee was always on during office hours, but of course it was too hot in the afternoons to drink it. Purified water was also available in the office and in pitchers that were topped up daily by the maids. The small gift shop was attached to the office and was quite reasonably priced. The pool was small but clean, and a nice place to refresh and relax away from the sometimes crowded beaches.

The location was amazing. Not just the view and having essentially private access to beautiful ocean coral, but also being a short walk away from West End to go to restaurants, bars, shops, water taxis, atms, beaches and grocery stores. The walk at night was fairly well lit, but we always had a small flashlight handy. We did not take advantage of the diving facilities but we heard good things from others.

Room Tip: Bungalows are the same price but have a better view of the ocean (and no cable TV but who needs TV o...

Great hotel! The staff were genuinely friendly and helpful. The dive shop was professional, clean and safe. The dive master, Tony, was fantastic and like a back-country guide in the reefs. The shop is a quick walk out the back gate of the property which is nice. Also, the dive groups were small--never more than 6 or 7 and usually only three or four.

Jessica and Mariela in the office were great. Very helpful and friendly. It is obviously a family run business and they all participate and help out. It really made a traveler feel at home.

Roatan is a great place and I would go back, but since I have the forum...I few comments on the island itself. Roatan, like many places, is at a crossroads. The population has doubled in recent years and the growing pains are obvious. The natural beauty is unsurpassed on the reefs and evident on the drive in. It reminds me in a way of Pattaya in Thailand in the late 80's. Now though, vendors now abound, trash is evident on the roads and the reef is being damaged by divers and boats. While I felt safe in the West End, it is obvious that there are unsafe areas on the island. The walks to and from the hotel were short but hazardous on the main road in West End. In a way it is a shame the island can't seem to do a few simple things that would make visiting so much better.

All in all though, I recommend Roatan as a destination if you are a diver. I wholeheartedly recommend the Seagrape Plantation for its great staff. Just keep in mind that the Seagrape is a diving resort and the accomodations are rustic but extremely well maintained.

Thanks Mariela, Jessica and Tony...and Rachel and Rhonda and Ricky....hopefully I'll be back soon.

Room Tip: Stay in a bungalow if you want a nice view and hammock. The room is smaller and there is no cable

Six of us checked into three beach bungalows ready for comfort and relaxation after sailing to Roatan from Belize. We were greeted by friendly staff, gorgeous views, and amazingly comfortable and roomy homes away from home. It was calm and quiet, yet just a very short walk to all the action in the West End. We most definitely will be back to this amazing place, there is nowhere else we'd want to stay while on Roatan.

My second visit to Seagrape was a solo trip. My husband was unable to break away from work, so I decided to go on my own. It was like coming back to family! Met at the airport by Jessica, who took the time to stop at a grocery store on the way back to the resort to pick up a few supplies. (fridges in every room btw, so yogurt, cheese, drinks, etc are not a problem). Arriving at the resort, Cleve and Mariella handed out hugs, had my reservation and room ready I was able to go out on the 2:30 dive that afternoon!
My previous stay had been in one of the bungalos overlooking the sea. This time I was in a room which had a TV! I think I had it on once :) and there seemed to be a variety of channels, local and US. The room had air conditioning but with the fan and open window at night, I didn't really use it much. The staff keeps the place spotless and shining. Plus they always bring a fresh pitcher of water to your room everyday.
This place is a wonderful, safe, convenient, laid back property that offers a great value. BEST OF ALL IS THE WARM WELCOME AND CARE FROM EVERYONE THAT WORKS HERE.

Room Tip: I love facing the water even in the rooms as you get such a nice breeze at night.

First of all we'd like to say it feels like coming home when we stay here. Jessica & Cleve, thank you for being so accommodating to our needs and making us feel so welcome at your resort. Your 3 boys Joshua, Jeremiah & Joseph are pretty much the cutest, too!
Seagrape was the first place we ever stayed at when we first visited the Island 9 years ago and continues to be a favourite!
It's close (5 minute stroll) to everything you need (beaches, restaurants, groceries) and if you want to venture out, be sure to rent a scooter. Cleve even has extra cool helmets to wear!!
If you want a relaxing, quiet place to stay with a spectacular view you won't be disappointed. The dock or the pool areas are perfect for sunset watching.
Of course the hammocks are the best place to relax in the morning after you grab a coffee at the office!
We will be back for sure!

First of all, this place treats you like family. The diving here is incredible and the staff is extremely helpful and accommodating. If you have been diving all of your life, they can accommodate that just as easily as they can a brand new diver. They do tend to take "short cuts" according to PADI regulations, but overall I felt very safe diving with them.

The bungalows on the water are phenomenal. You have a porch and hammock with a view of the ocean! Most other places in West End will charge you daily for the use of their air conditioning, but Seagrape has a nice unit right above the bed. I've lived in the Caribbean before, so I was very nervous about bugs (which are EVERYWHERE), but there were hardly any in the bungalows :).

Overall, I would absolutely go back and recommend this place to friends and family. It's affordable and in a terrific location. It's a 5 minute walk from the "strip" of things, but I loved being a little removed from all of the music and bar scene at night. It felt like an oasis that was a stones throw away from the heart of West End.

For those going to West End, support the locals! Lots of shops and restaurants are actually owned by foreigners and are driving the prices up in the community. All of the street vendors have food that is soooo much better than the $10/$15/$20 entrees at the restaurants. And you get your food immediately instead of waiting for an hour!
