“Not good if you are on a vacation”
Reviewed 8 May 2012

The location of the hotel is good only if you are on a business tour as its located nearby to most of the government and private offices. the nearest beach is miramar which is around 8-10 kms from the hotel. travel desk of the hotel is good but the prices are on a very higher side. front office staff is kinda ok but not at all polite and yes, its true that they behave like they are doing a favour to you.

food served in the restaurant is also not good. you end up paying 20% extra if you order something from room service. food quality is good but quantity, price and taste are too bad. buffet breakfast also is very limited and neither good nor bad.

rooms are small. housekeeping is not good. the dustbin of my room was not even cleared once in my 4 days stay. when asked to clear it, i was told to put the empty bottles outside the room and not to keep them in the dustbin. towels were dirty and had lots of holes.

overall a not to be chosen place if you are on a vacation. there are lots of other options available in the same price.

This is the second time we've stayed at a Ginger. Things you can expect: clean room, modern decor, decent buffet breakfast, good AC, and good wifi. You can also expect a long check in process with the staff which seems to be characteristic of Ginger hotels. Compared to the Ginger in Mysore, this one was slightly run down. The remote control for the tv was completely unusable given that half the keys were missing and the words for the buttons had rubbed off. Also think the "one wifi password per a room per device" is pretty inconvenient.

The travel desk downstairs charges 900 for getting a taxi to the airport. The taxi guys outside the gate will go as low as 550. The motorbike rented from the travel desk downstairs was subpar but got the job done.

Another plus - the guys that work at the Coffee Day downstairs are super friendly and will deliver your stuff to your room.

Generally, this hotel is geared towards business travellers and families. I would recommend this hotel although it is pricier than most guest houses in the area.

everything except for the front office staff is good for this hotel. dealing with front office staff is like wasting your time & you end up losing your holiday mood. They are very proudy, rude & behave as if they are doing favour to us.. god help you if you are unfortunate enough to encounter Ms. Shilpa. If you are ready to ignore these starting 15-20 mins & same while cheking-out..everything else about this hotel is very good..plus point is their location...bang behind the Panaji Bus station...so you have better, convenient & economical access to all major tourist attractions...& if you have some quality time to spare...please do visit Goa central library just opposite to this hotel (fully air-conditioned & well maintained..you get all required books here) although this is labelled as budget hotel..you get all essential facilities like LCD TV / NICE BED / CLEAN ROOMS / COFFEE-TEA MAKER / SELF CONTROLLED AC...& if you book well in advance you get these rooms at very good rate...mine cost me INR 2299/- per night (booked 10-11 weeks prior) compared to rake rate of INR 5499/- if I had booked even 2 weeks late.

Room Tip: ask for room with lavender decor..its soothing & beautiful compared to other option with yellow...

Ginger in Goa is a perfect hotel located in the heart of panaji. Probably the first hotel you see when you enter Panaji coming from Airport. Its a nice, quite lobby and very clean and maintained rooms category hotel. typical budget although their prices sometimes shoot off the roof.
Its a good hotel for business travel as there is nothing much inside the rooms to stay there. I would not prefer taking my family here simply because there are no interiors. It s just a room to come, freshen up, leave for work and come back late night and go to sleep and do the same chorus again. The food is excellent and so is their staff. Earlier used to provide a buffet but now they give proper menu card. No Room Service (coz its a budget hotel)

Room Tip: Only when official trip

Ginger has always been my first choice because of its location (in Panjim, centre of Goa, both North and South goa are easily accessible) and comfort (of booking, cosy rooms and no disturbance). No room service/Self service means no disturbance. Rooms have all the required comfort which you will need.

I stayed with a friend at the Ginger, Goa in March 2012. We had a room each, one twin, one double. Both rooms were the same size, but one had twin beds in it.
The rooms were both clean and servicable. This is a budget hotel, so don't expect frills. If anyone reading this is from the UK, it is much like a Travelodge without carpets - quite acceptable.
The restaurant has a varied menu and open long hours. The food was cheap and tasty. The smaller cafe never seemed to have anything left when we walked by.
The service was good. Staff always pleasant and helpful and whatever we asked for appeared quite quickly.
There is a taxi desk. When we enquired about taxi prices outside the hotel they were no cheaper than inside and at least you can feel safe with the hotel's recommendations. They also do sightseeing tours, though these were not cheap. We found Goa in general to be quite pricey due to the high level of tourism there.
Walk down to the end of the road and turn right onto the main road. Shortly you will come across the bus station. We got buses from there to the beaches for around Rs14 each, much cheaper than any taxi or auto rickshaw and much more interesting.
Across the same main road is a nice park. There are local shops and restaurants close by too.
We went on a ferry cruise in the evening. This was quite scary because judging by the queues and their urgency to board the ferry, you would think it was a matter of life or death. We were literally nearly knocked over in the rush and I was quite scared. If we had been pushed over we would most certainly have been trampled on and injured, if not worse. However, once on the ferry it wasn't so bad. There was food available, very loud music and lots of frivolity and dancing if that's your kind of thing.
I would definitely stay at Ginger again.

Room Tip: We had a room on the 4th floor at the back of the hotel which was very quiet. Our second room was o...

This hotel does not score highly for atmosphere - it's very bland and is obviously part of a chain - but the rooms are clean and comfortable. Only the window was filthy but it was cleaned while we were there on our five night stay. We used the services of the travel desk just once and found the man running it rather abrupt; we also felt that we were overcharged for the dolphin-watching boat trip that we booked. I would advise travellers to use one of the many travel shops in Panaji itself, not this one. The breakfast was so so, but I didn't like the way I was offered eggs done western-style without being told that this was adding almost the price of a full breakfast to the bill. Overall we were satisfied with our stay at this hotel.
