Historically it was the largest church in Asia, but was destroyed in an earthquake. All that remains is a part of the structure, which resembles now like tower. The ceilings of the monastery have also collapsed during the quake but ASI has undertaken preservation efforts of the remaining structures

A deep history about the ruins of this once magnificent church, in which buried somewhere are the remains of the queen of Georgia a country which gained independence from Russia

Personally I prefer to wander around the ruins of old religious buildings than complete ones, and this place was fsscinating. Free entry, informative signs in English and much of interest. Quite a few fellows tourists on site too, but not enough to disturb one's quiet enioyment of the place.

This destroyed church is impressive to see, and worth a walk-thru. We stopped by coincidence, and away from the top attractions in Old Goa, you can visit at your own speed, and relax to imagine how it has been in the past...
