It is a world heritage site which looms over the landscape in Old Goa.As you stand outside the Basilica of Bom Jesus this white building looms over on the other side of the road and just looking at it you know it is a must see.
When you go in make sure you have a guide because most of what is really good to see inside is something that has to be explained to you.The Se Cathedral can and hold upto 15 different services at the same time and has the graves of Portugese noblemen of that time inside it.It has scenes from the life of St Catherine (to whome the cathedral is dedicated) all of which need to be explained by the guide.
One of the interesting facts is that inside the chair that the Viceroy would occupy is placed above the chair of the bishop (of whose house the Cathedral was a part) showing how power worked out then
Takes about an hour to see and should not be missed though one wishes more attention had been paid to its maintenance.

This cathedral looked so white and luminous and gigantic from outside. The interior betrayed its age and lack of care, though there was scaffolding up at the altar so I hope improvements are in the offing. An impending visit from Pope Francis has probably kick-started that. There's an impressive painting of a hefty and sturdy-legged Saint Christopher wading through water to the right of one of the exit doors which is worth a look

construction and renovation works almost completed, beautiful building which taken back to 400 years back Portuguese era..large space and goo works. They could have maintained little more better by putting more care on painting and all. Management or Parish should take care of keep and maintain the beauty of this old church in a proper manner.

This is a beautiful cathedral but seeing it after about 32 years I was shocked at how badly it has been maintained considering it's a World Heritage site. It was built in 1662. Most of the gold paint has flaked off from the statues and it did not look like there was any restoration work going on. There is one huge painting which I'm sure will be stunning if it is cleaned up. Wish someone would do something about this.

This place is on the list of must see places when one visits Goa and while the cathedral looks imposing and inviting from the outside, the interior view is in sharp contrast with dilapilated walls. Restoration works are on and once the same is done, maybe it would return to its erstwhile spendour.
