my family, wife Ruth, daughter Edel & sil Regina visited this oldest & heritage Church where da Tom of St. Francis Xavier is kept. What an amazing building still stands strong without any renevations.
An extra-ordinary architecture of the old centuries. The tom is raised up so that people will not touch.

It is brought down for public views every 10 yrs. We learned that it will be brought down this year in December 2013. May be Pope Francis is also visiting at the same time.

This pilgrimage is a God given gift to us...once in a life time.

The time we went was a raining and low season in Goa & still many tourist from all walks of life are seen.

Been to this beautiful shrine 'n' number of times.. Found many of the artifacts and photographs really interesting.. Cant catch a glimpse St. Xavier properly since his tomb is placed pretty high...

The small and yet well maintained museum is a feast for the eye. A must-see experience while in Goa...

The tomb of this patron saint is located in the Basilica of Bom Jesus.

The saint was originally a missionary and died in 3/12/1552 after many hazardous journeys.
For lovers of history, this place is a must, despite the crowds.

The grounds of the church are clean and neat and the church peaceful.

Candles are for sale outside and one can hire a guide at approx. IR 100 if you want the full guided tour. These guides have official badges and they are likely to approach you first otherwise just look around until you find one.
