We stayed 2 nights here and we left feeling sad as we had such a lovely stay. The hospitality showed to us by Nitya and her staff was exquisite. Her food was delicious and nothing was too much. She cooked it the way we requested. Yes the place is in need of some changes but that was all part of the charm.
We felt it was a haven, in the nature, the temples in the backdrop, peacocks and lovely parrots flying around, all that was missing was a nice cold beer. Thank you for the hospitality!

Room Tip: We were in the ground floor room just off the dining room. Has a nice varanda with hammock. Nice vie...

Old country house hotel with a long memory Victorians: shame about the conservation status of the rooms and furniture. Large rooms with bed essential and dim light. Bathroom with poor function and cleanliness. Very warm welcome and hospitality by owners with food, simple but very good. Great courtesy; temples still deserve the break.

We arrived in the dark and left before dawn so did not get a chance to really see the place. However, the dinner was very good and just what was needed after a long drive. The pre-dawn coffee and toast set us up for the big climb. Our bedroom was huge and cold and the bathroom, across an open "courtyard" was freezing and not at all well appointed. I would have liked to see the place in daylight and explored the grounds.

Vijay Vilas is a nice old palace on a great location if you plan to walk the temple trail. The owner and staff are friendly. The food is amazing. Nothing is to much asked. Food, drinking water, coffee and tea, all complementary any time in the day.
Rooms could be much nicer though, with better beds/mattresses and mosquito nets. I didn't sleep very well because of the mosquito's. The bathrooms need to be refurbished, they are very old. Also the garden could have been nicer I think. There are some (new) concrete benches in the garden, but a bit useless.
I understand very well that it is not easy to keep a place like this in good shape. Not only is the building old, but also it is in a remote area. I was very happy with my 2 nights stay.

The drive to the country lane up to the palace was nice. From then on it was downwards: we were greeted in a gloomy, dark and dirty entrance hall. After a hesitant check-in we were shown a double bedroom: one bed with a lumpy mattress on planks and the other on a bed frame made with chicken wire. The toiled seat was conveniently held up with a band-aid and the towels provided looked like somebody had just dried their muddy feet with. Forget taking a shower after a dusty day: there was no hot water in the evening.
Dinner was abundant but mediocre in taste and breakfast consisted of toast and jam. What about traditional Indian breakfast?
The area is amazing but this is definitely not a hotel, so don't expect one. The whole place looks unkept.

The Feel of a King with his Queen leasuring around the great palace with nothing to do accept admiring his own greatness in buliding this huge and beautiful place to live in. The Experience of staying in this property was just majestic, although the palace is not that well maintained but for me that was the main highlight, the Blackish coatig on huge walls make me flow down to ancient times, As people says, Young knows to young we were well treated by the young couple who are running the Property. The quality of Food was good on hygine and gujarati family recipes were tasty.

Hi, as some of you are saying that you should expect a home stay rather than a Palace............that is true! We walked down from the temples and went to VVP for lunch and did not really have the chance to spend a night there. We did take a look around their rooms and they do feel more like a simple yet loving home that will make you overlook many short comings. The owners, a young couple were ever so welcoming and had cooked so many varieties that one could only keep on complimenting all throughout the meal. The food was Indian and I preferred the vegetarian feast......impeccable taste and no spice was too much or too little, just right. The lady of the house served us herself and was also a fine example of politeness and fine up-bringing. I would love to try and stay there some day and experience the simplicity of this home that is seeped in history and family values.Thank you for the hospitality!
