See the Indian and Pakistan border guards lower their national flag; their own style of Trooping the Colour! Madness loud bizarre but an experience not to be missed. Tips....Take water and sunglasses, and make u use VIP entrance if foreign visitor, no cost either!

As a westerner I was not sure what to expect when visiting Wagah for the sunset ceremony of both Indian NA Pakistan Military forces. However it turned out to be a great piece of Theatre with troops from both sides, along with the crowd showing there love and commitment to their country.

A word of warning get there early and make sure you sit as high up in the seating area as you can. There is a designated "Foreigners" seating area, close to the border.

As a number of reviewers have said this is really an example of true patriotism

This happens only on this border and is a must see show. The most pleasant time period is October to March when you can escape the heat.
It is one of the most enjoyable place in Amritsar provided you get a proper place to sit in the pavilion, than you will get the good view of the Beating Retreat of the Indian and Pakistani Soldiers, The Beating Retreat was one of the most enjoyable Patriotic moment of my life, I felt to be proud of my country where I was born, my every moment spent there was full of enthusiasm, joy and pleasure
This attraction is set up as an entertaining public spectacle. The lines are long and there is security everywhere. Take your car to the drop off point and then a cycle rickshaw to the border. It cost us Rs 75/- but its only 2-3 minutes.
You will be separated into men and women and children before you enter a stadium like arena which overlooks the India outpost and the famed border gates and fences. So make sure you all have mobile phones. When the crowds between 2000-3000 people leave, you can get seriously lost. There is security that helps you locate each other but nothing beats a cell phone. Dress conservatively. Its well organised and crowds were tame and consisted mostly of families.
There is a compare who encourages you to sing and scream Go India so your voices are louder than the 'opposition'.
Everyone has a great time. You can choose to run to the border separated by a solid gate with the Indian Flag or just enjoy the many film and devotional songs on the loud speaker.
The marching or rather kicking competition is the most fun. The soldier salute and parade up and down the length of the outpost and the higher their legs can go the more applause they get! It’s wonderful. It’s a day trip.
Ask for timings and days at your hotel before you go. Eat before you leave or carry food and water. You can by basics in the area but that would mean stepping out of the queue, which could add waiting time.

One of the borders with our neighbors where you can walk and cross to Pakistan with a Visa to visit Lahore. The closing & opening rituals are worth witnessing.
