The main reason to stay at this hotel is that it is the nicest hotel we saw within walking distance of the Golden Temple. Because of the location I would recommend staying at this hotel. However, we had more problems here than at any other hotel. First, we had arranged transport from the train station. We waited and waited when we arrived. Turned out the driver picked up another passenger and forgot about us. Fortunately we had a local phone and after several phone calls and 1.5 hours of standing at the train station someone came for us. We would have taken a taxi, but they kept telling us someone was coming. Next, we arrived to the hotel to find the rooms are extremely small and cramped. They were nowhere near as spacious as the room photos online. This was definite abuse of the wide angle lens. The two rooms we booked did not have any windows to the outside which added to the feeling of being in a dungeon. Breakfast was included in our room rate, but we had to wait close to 45 minutes to get served each morning, in a cold room where we could not stand up straight due to the low ceiling. It seems they bring most items in from another shop. We were also told that before 10am all we could have was butter toast, so breakfast was not worthwhile. I definitely recommend getting the room without the "extras." There is a room price that includes breakfast and pick up from the train, and some "free" minibar type items, but since we basically got neither we thought it was ridiculous that we had to pay for it. The one thing that really impressed us was that when we checked out we forgot two shirts in the room. They emailed us to find out our location in India and then mailed the shirts to us. That was a nice surprise. The staff barely spoke English, but the owner was very good about taking our phone calls and translating our requests. There was a nice shower with hot water. Also, the hotel arranged a guide for us to go to the Wagah border closing ceremony and a couple of temples. The guide spoke little English, but enough to make it a pleasant trip. He was a really friendly guide.
