This hotel was our first in India and it was pleasant in every regard. We stayed here for three nights as part of a self-organised visit to Northern India.
The hotel is clean and comfortable, if a little dark in places, and the staff were very helpful, bringing us a drink whilst the desk staff prepared our early check-in.
Our room was clean, as was the bathroom, though the latter was dated. The shower was hot and strong (something we now appreciate is a rarity!) and the usual array of soaps and shower gels is provided, with plenty of towels.
We ate in the hotel restaurant on the first night, then ordered from the restaurant as room service for the other two as we were really suffering badly from jet-lag and didn't have the energy to go elsewhere. The food is better than any Indian restaurant food I've tasted in the UK, and a lot nicer than some of the other restaurants we've eaten at in India, especially for a hotel.
The only complaint I have is regarding the noise. We were in room 201 and bordered by the stairwell and corridor on two sides and the noise from the road on the other. We'd already been told that the hotel was fully booked, and the noise was at it's worst on our final night, otherwise we'd have asked to be moved. Do yourself a favour and don't get a room next to the stairwell!
We asked at reception if the hotel did tours and were told no, in fact the receptionist printed out a guide to Amritsar for us as an alternative. We booked a trip to the border with another hotel, only to find ourselves sat in traffic behind a Golden Tulip car at the border! Might be worth pushing for more info and explicitly stating that you want to visit the border to get their prices and itinerary.
The hotel is pleasingly warm and they're definitely set up for cold weather, unlike other places.
We noticed that our Lonely Planet India guide had the hotel listed as Hotel Grand Legacy, which was slightly confusing.
Having visited other hotels since, I'd say this is a good all-rounder and I'd happily stay here again.
Would like to visit the (small) rooftop pool; perhaps when it's a bit warmer. In this weather the rooftop garden is great for watching the world go by. We even spotted an elephant!
