“Not quite our cup of tea but nice rooms”
Reviewed 4 March 2014

Aspects of this experience just seem a bit contrived for us. We arrived at the same time as a group, and entered to the sound of the musicians beating time for our entrance and were greeted with garlands and a tikal on our forehead. Perhaps if we had arrived as sole travelers, thus wouldn't have been the same. In the evening there is a bonfire in the outside bar area. with musicians are playing. To us, this whole bonfire/ musician scene seemed a bit like a way to increase bar sales rather than a way to provide for guests' comfort and to enhance the overall experience. The owner made a quick, perfunctory stop by to welcome us, but this too seemed to us just a formality so guests could say they'd met some minor Indian royalty. Perhaps this is the type of thing that appeals to some, but it is not us and is not as authentic an experience as we have had at other similar properties. however, if it is what you want for an experience, come stay here and you'll have a lovely place to stay.

Even though there were only perhaps a dozen guests, dinner was served buffet style (not our favorite) and, as far as spices, definitely was toned down for western palates. Wifi is only available by the reception area, We were annoyed because in the early evening (the time of day when most guests might want to sit and use the wifi) there was a child sitting all alone at the reception computer playing video games with the volume turned up so loud that it was like being in a video arcade. The noise drove us away, and we jokingly asked ourselves if this was intentional so guests would go to the bar area instead and spend some money. I don't have any problems with allowing a child to use the computer at the reception area, but there should have been an adult around to tell him to turn the volume way down so the sound would not annoy paying guests.

Our room, however, was lovely and spacious. No complaints at all about this! And, the grounds are lovely. Overall, it is a nice place to stay.

I loved staying here. The building is beautiful and it was a lovely place to relax and rest for a day. We stayed here as part of an intrepid tour. Lovely staff. Nice pool although some difficulty keeping the bugs out. Nice rooms with large bathrooms and consistent hot water. Wifi only worked in the lobby and seemed to only work in the evening.

I would love to return and stay here again.

Very comfortable Hotel with good facilities situated in countryside next to a small village. Some of rooms are fantastic and definitely give palace feel.Food not up to same standard as rest of services.
If you stay here you should check out the camping option at a nearby Lake run by same people.Panngarh Camping.Tents are sat by side of lake ,very comfortable with good bathrooms.Food excellent.Bird life and peaceful countryside are great.

Castle Bijaipur doesn't try to be anything - it just is. This was my second stay. Our suite room was exquisite the ambience calm and serene. The bed was comfy and the pillows amazing. Dinner was around the pool as there was a group staying. But this added to the atmosphere and meant we had a wonderful buffet dinner complete with a tandoori oven and amazing tandoori foods. The castle is in the middle of a typical village which is a pleasure to walk around - the locals are very friendly and accommodating. On the downside the staff on the whole lack motivation and interest and the internet was patchy. We tried to do some shopping but no one had the key for the jewelry or knew the prices of the clothes. We tried to organise a cooking class without success. However these are a small price to pay for a most amazing place. If you are in the area you must try and visit!

Room Tip: Suite rooms 208, 209 and 210 are recommended.

We were recommended to stay in this ancient castle, still owned by a family, as a stop over when visiting Chittaurgurh. It really is an oasis of calm and a welcome respite from the often overwhelming freneticism of Indian life. The rooms were gorgeous, with sumptuous bathrooms and the long balcony outside them, overlooking the swimming pool and gardens, had a swing and a cushioned balcony ....perfect for chilling out on. The public areas, however, could do with a serious makeover. The bar was gloomy and rather dilapidated....with baleful overhead lighting. And the dining room, also gloomy and ill-lit, reminded me of school dinners, with the same sort of canteen type smell. The food was a set meal....reasonably okay but nothing special. But the staff were great and went a long way to make up for the shortcomings in ambience and menu. (But not the dire WiFi connection!). Overall, though, we loved this place and wish we had been able to stay longer. It is very special.

Room Tip: If you can get up the steep stairs, the rooms on the second floor are beautiful. And the view to die...

It still has the appearance of a castle but its grandeur is gone. Nice welcom with flowers and drums bur than ist downhill. The receptionist should learn what hospitality means. Or perhaps it is just his character. The rooms are huge, so is the bathroom. Very well equiped. The diningroom looks like a schoolcafeteria. No character at all. The food is fine and the waiters are adoreble. They sang for us and gave us a demonstration turban making. But you can see that the place lacks management. And perhaps a female touch. And then it would be a castle again.

Where to start? The amazing hospitality? The beautiful remote countryside location? The amazing food? The stunning hotel surrounds itself? Our gorgeously decorated room?

Honestly, this place blew us away. We managed to pack in a lot for the two days we were there. We went horse riding which was so much fun. The countryside is beautiful and the rivers were gorgeous and unpolluted. We saw much wildlife and local tribes people etc. Such a good outing.

The owners family of the hotel have been there for 350 years. They are really genuinely down to earth, good people and are fantastic hosts.

Our food was super yummy and the dining outside in the courtyard under the stars around a fire was just fantastic. Our room was majestic, spotlessly clean and cosy with a  balcony looking over one of the many courtyards.

We also had a massage which was pretty damn good.

It's a great place to get away from it all and chill out. Lots of activities from the mild to the wild. Can't wait to come back!

Room Tip: Get one on the top floor overlooking one often courtyards or the one with a big private balcony.
