“Scenic route, Nice picnic spot”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 April 2014

Getting Permit:
We went there during last week of March, we did not have a problem getting permit, we went to DFO office around 9 AM still able to get it. ( Overall Kodaikanal is less crowded at this time due to board exams + it is a weekday). The problem is finding parking for your car near the office, it is better to park on the main road and walk to the office.
About the drive:
The road conditions are decent and drive was scenic with several view points, stopped and clicked photos, we parked near the guard room at the lake and walked to the point with access to water and spent couple hours. Both my daughters played around, they were happy to spot some fishes, walked a bit along the lake shore. Overall we spent some quality time with kids.
Disappointment:
The water levels are low due to lack of rains, the surroundings were looking very dry.
Bathrooms were not accessible, again no water is cited as reason.

“Very good drive, but you have to go there early”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 April 2014

Worth the visit but those who are driving your own car has to go to the forest office early at like 7:30 itself to get the permit, since all the travel agents will take up all the permits with their guys in the line. Illiterates also let their friends into the line. Only 50 permits given in a day. You have to go early, the gate opens at 8am. If you go there at 11 and on a weekend , you will see only buses of people littering the place and shouting.

The views are very good and also the road, looks like it had just got done.

“Average location”

A lake in the middle of the jungle. A good place to sit by for half an hour. Strangely, you wont find many birds around , only crows that feed on food that visitors carry.

“Scenic location ideal for photography & nature lovers”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 March 2014

This place is located at a distance of about 25 kms from Kodaikanal town. You need to get permission from the Forest office before visiting this place. Limited vehicles are allowed to enter on a per day basis & the area is open for public traffic between 11 AM - 3 PM. The drive itself is enjoyable & overlooks scenic valleys and mountains. Once at the lake, public entry is very restricted. We cannot go beyond a certain point (say 500 mts) thereby preventing you to enjoy the nature to the fullest.
