The place and the drive to this lake is awesome. Quite, serene and colorful valleys will welcome you in your way with silence of swift wind flowing above hill side. This is the only place for which I may decide to visit Kodai again.

To reach Berijam, you need to obtain permission from the forest office on the day you are planning to visit. The office is in middle of town, on the way to lake. The lake is approx 15kms or so and you can drive if you have a personal vehicle. Very quite and its in the midst of greenery.

A serene locality, but only when you visit it at the perfect time. I visited during a Sunday in March end, and god I so regret it. It was full with people (guess the school holidays might have started) and the climate in Kodai was also very warm. Plan and go a bit earlier, and if a weekday is possible its perfect!

Dense forest and nice view of the lake from the road.
One thing which needs improvement is washrooms in the place. There was no restroom available at the place.

Getting Permit:
We went there during last week of March, we did not have a problem getting permit, we went to DFO office around 9 AM still able to get it. ( Overall Kodaikanal is less crowded at this time due to board exams + it is a weekday). The problem is finding parking for your car near the office, it is better to park on the main road and walk to the office.
About the drive:
The road conditions are decent and drive was scenic with several view points, stopped and clicked photos, we parked near the guard room at the lake and walked to the point with access to water and spent couple hours. Both my daughters played around, they were happy to spot some fishes, walked a bit along the lake shore. Overall we spent some quality time with kids.
Disappointment:
The water levels are low due to lack of rains, the surroundings were looking very dry.
Bathrooms were not accessible, again no water is cited as reason.
