“Good with some quirks”
Reviewed 19 May 2014

Pot Luck Cafe is a rather small and cozy place in Kodaikanal. Its got a very limited number of seating and a rather unique self service. You actually write your order on a small white board and pass it to the lady behind the counter. The place is usually "crowded" because there are exactly 3 tables there. I would suggest go at odd hours and when you have plenty of time.

In Kodaikanal, if the amazing climate is not good enough to get you close to your loved one. The food here will surely do the trick as there is hardly any place to go!

The Potter's Shed is ride beside the cafe and the food was served on plates and mugs from there. They look works of art rather than any kitchen ware.

The Food was really good. It isn't the usual Indian version of European food we get at most places. A lot of interesting people visit the Cafe and its a nice place to sit and watch the local people go about their business while sipping your cup of tea/coffee.

We are glad that you enjoyed & appreciated our hospitality. We offer our customers a 'Continental experience' that includes authentic international food, seating on the verandah & slow-food ( as opposed to Fast-food). All meals are cooked fresh after you place your order. The meal is part of your holiday - relaxed & romantic. An Italian couple, living in Kodai for 3 months, visited us every day for Italian home-food, & a visitor from Scotland announced that the Lemon Curd was as good as his Grand-mothers !

“Can be tried once only if one has lot of time in hand”
Reviewed 23 April 2014

Heard that this place had some good waffles and pancakes we thought of trying it out. Firstly the place is amazingly small with bare minimum sitting or standing space. While taking the order the lady behind the counter seemed annoyed for some unknown reason.
No doubt that the pancakes and waffles were really good. But they seemed to be out of stock for most of the things like we wanted pancakes with pancake syrup it was not there, then lemon butter wasn't there either and to top it they were out of coffee too. And the serving time is minimum 25-30 mins. Maybe we went on a bad time, just to give the place a benefit of doubt.

We offer 'Slow Food' as opposed to 'Fast Food'. Food is prepared fresh after you place your Order and the Order Pad says that the preparation time is over 20 minutes. Long weekends are a difficult time & we direct Customers in a hurry to other Fast Food cafes. We have stock-outs when seasonal fresh fruits & vegetables are not available ex. Pancake Syrup is available only in the pear season. Our niche customers always come back to support our charities ...... a soup-kitchen for Kodaikanal's beggars & a daily milk-scheme for 55 economically challenged children.

“coisy place, but bring some time”
Reviewed 22 November 2013

We found this place a day before but came to late back to take a rest there (allready closed like most of the shops at 9pm), so we went there after a long day of trekking for some coffee/tea.
The prices are the same like in other restaurants in Koidakanal (more or less expensive) but the portion are bigger than in other restaurants (even compared to the street coffee/tea it is not way more expensive).
We took 2 coffees and later 2 teas. They are servered really lovely but you have to wait for a long time 5-10Minuts for tea and 10Minuts or more for coffee but the place is chilled and if you are not in a rush it is ok.
The only disappointing thing is that the barwoman completly ignores you when she has to do something else (a short just a minute would be friendly).
If you order something (tea) and it is not fresh (like the green, black, ... tea) she tells you that they serve it in a teabag and you can choose something different if you like.
All the drinks and food is not in the typicall indian style (a lot of milk and sugar) which is a big point for this place.
Also that they serve everyday for 12 men and women who live in big poverty is really commendable.

So if you have some time and want something "uncommon indian" but really nice fresh stuff, give this place a chance

A beautiful place to sit and enjoy calm misty evenings. Please do not expect anything more. You are the luckiest if you get a chance to taste anything. Any visitor is viewed as a nuisance by the madam. Ill-treatment guaranteed. Be cautious

“Great cappuccino”
Reviewed 23 September 2013

It's small, or lets say tiny side cafe but has its own charm. There is no table service, but who's complaining. We had small tid-bits and coffee and the cappuccino of this place definitely gives the run-of-the-mill CCD a run for their money at half the price.

This is a must visit place everytime we are in Kodai
