The Hotel is situated very near to the ocean. You can have good view from the rooms if you get a sea side one. The Ramanathaswamy temple (the main temple of Rameshwaram) is just a stone's throw away. The holy dip near the temple is also nearby. Food is authentic South Indian. The service is also good. The property is quite and peaceful. A stroll in the evening with the constant cool sea breeze in and around the hotel is recommended.

Room Tip: Insist for the rooms with sea view.

Hotel TamilNadu (TTDC) is undoubtedly the best place to stay in Rameshwaram. The location itself will prove this fact. The resort is located in a vast area just 15 metres near to the ocean. Spread in acres of greenery filled area, the resort will give you a combination of sea breeze and fresh air.

Unlike all other hotels in Rameshwaram , which are located in totally congested and filthy roads of the temple town , this resort is the best option for a calm stay , away from rush, but at the same time walk-able from the temple.

Booking the hotel can be a problem. They have an internet booking , but when I tried that, it was showing results which are different from what I got from telephone enquiry. The other option is to book directly in their offices which they are located in capital cities of other states. I'm from Kochi , Kerala , but the booking office was at Trivandrum. There is no telephone booking. You have to pay the entire amount in advance. Luckily I had my friend there in Trivandrum who booked the rooms and send me the receipt by post :-)

Front office was really good and helpful. The rooms were ready and we did not have to wait for anything. They also gave a card with all destinations in and around Rameshwaram and introduced a driver whom you can avail for visiting these places

Service was overall OK.

We booked a Triple Bed Non A/c room which costed us 1000/- + Tax per day. The room was a decent and spacious one. It has an attached closet with a wardrobe and washbasin. The main room had a television , 3 chairs and a small table. They had 3 plug points , though you have to make some adjustments in your equipment position to get them supply power ;-)

The resort has a very good restaurant, which is open to all (apart from those staying there). The booking will have a complimentary breakfast. All meals are buffet ones. It was really worth and good.

The resort has a small BAR also on the other side. A beer costs you 130.

The whole town is suffering from frequent Power-Offs, but the resort has a very good generator back-up that can stay the whole thing up and running.

There is a Play area for Children which has got a few swings, see-saws and merry go rounds in the shades of huge trees

Best Experience: The location itself will calm you down from your strenuous journey.

Worst Experience: Avoid parking vehicles or walking beneath the trees after sunset , or else you'll end up in a decoration by crow-s**t. Do not keep the room doors/windows open while you are away. The crows can do big things there. (they took away our biscuit packet !!!)

Stayed one night in non-AC double room in Jan 2012. Bedsheet was stained and the floor was dirty. The table had a layer of dust. The walls were also peeling off. To top it all there was mosquitoes at night and there is no question of a good night's sleep. There is no intercom and the reception is a walk away. When I complained in the morning, they said that they could have arranged a mosquito coil and blamed me for opening the windows. They asked me to pay service tax extra. For what service? Better to stay in a pilgrimage lodge which are at least clean and reasonable than stay in this govt hotel! Only saving grace was the good food.

We went there on new year's eve. Prime location next to the temple and sea front.
Berakfast was OK mainly south indian. Dinner was also fine, south. MRP on coke water etc.
Rooms were spacious but damp. AC was not very effective. But the location and open space made for that. Staff was ok.

Room Tip: You need to call before to get sea facing rooms

This hotel is at an excellent location without doubt, Day or Night you get amazing views of the Indian Ocean. It is in very close proximity to the bathing ghat and the main temple.

The hotel is well designed and there is plenty of light and air is every nook and corner. Relaxing on the roof of the building is a divine experience especially at sunset. The only drawback is the lack of cleanliness in the rooms. The sheets and towels provided were stained and dirty.

The room rates are very reasonable though. Breakfast is included and the attached restaurant offers a good variety and reasonably priced food.

I didn't listen to many of my Indian friends who wanted me to stay in a "good" Hotel instead of the Tamil Nadu Hotel. But many years ago I have been there and liked the place on the shore, thent it was old and very used.
So I was surprised to find new buildings with comfortable rooms, with and without AC, clean bathrooms and nice terraces to sit outside in the fresh wind. Also the restaurant offered a good choice, and specially the breakfast was excellent.
But what was really unique was the service. Whatever were our wishes, the people at the reception were extremely helpful, organized also special trips and fixed reasonable rates. I have been in many nice hotels in South India, but I never nerver found such a personal engagement.
When I will be back to Rameswaram I will certainly stay at the Tamil Nadu again.
