We were treated as unwanted rats in the hotel. The hotel staff was rude as hell, waking us up early in the morning and violently to let us know that we had to check out or pay for a second day because our 23 hours were over (we had no plans of leaving that day). The staff are unbelievably unhelpfull, watching you go up and down with your luggage, while sitting down on the empty bedsheets in the hallway.
The overcharged us (300 rupees over the price charged to an Indian couple for the same room).
The hotel is new, so the rooms are clean, but they have no windows. The hotel is built next to the ocean, but no rooms have an ocean view.
We were not even allowed to leave our luggage in reception after checking out.
Nobody speaks english.
I suggest you stay on the outskirts of Rameswaram, at the Tamil Nadu Hotel (TNH) (old rooms but it works and is in a quiet and cool part of town). There are a couple of guest houses near the TNH, close to coconut palms, fishermen boats, etc.
