“Unbelievably rude staff, no windows, expensive and uncomfortable.”
Reviewed 26 October 2011

We were treated as unwanted rats in the hotel. The hotel staff was rude as hell, waking us up early in the morning and violently to let us know that we had to check out or pay for a second day because our 23 hours were over (we had no plans of leaving that day). The staff are unbelievably unhelpfull, watching you go up and down with your luggage, while sitting down on the empty bedsheets in the hallway.
The overcharged us (300 rupees over the price charged to an Indian couple for the same room).
The hotel is new, so the rooms are clean, but they have no windows. The hotel is built next to the ocean, but no rooms have an ocean view.
We were not even allowed to leave our luggage in reception after checking out.
Nobody speaks english.
I suggest you stay on the outskirts of Rameswaram, at the Tamil Nadu Hotel (TNH) (old rooms but it works and is in a quiet and cool part of town). There are a couple of guest houses near the TNH, close to coconut palms, fishermen boats, etc.

Room Tip: Don't stay here!!! But if you absolutely have to stay here, choose the rooms ending in 9 or 10...

There is totally nothing nice whatsoever one can write about this awfull state called Tamil Nadu, that we had previously scheduled to travel through, the mostly uneducated sometimes menacing locals, the private road blocks and standover tactics from those controlling them, standover tactics from others that my driver choose to pay rather than have trouble, the overcharging above MRP at the grotty crooked government run bottled Liquor shops, and the indifference shown at mostly all accommodation hotels and lodges through this state.

This hotel in a strip of several was opposite the temple, so was convenient, we managed to get a small reduction for 2 AC rooms after haggling.
There is an ATM next door, and plenty of restaurants a walk away.
Soda and jiuces are available in the foyer.
The room was clean, the corridors spotless, and the rear of the building faces the water.

The foreshore below the hotel is where all the trash is dumped unfortunatly, and Pigs forage,so if you dont look down, the harbour view is pleasant viewing with the fishing boats at anchor, but not from the rooms, none face the water, but you can sit at the end of the balcony if you drag your room chair up.
The hotel:
The rooms are clean, but very small, the television is mounted up extremley high so no good if your seated. The bathroom is quite roomy, but no Insect screen on the lovre window.

He's something you have to watch out for in India at hotels, its reasonably common in India, but if you pay for an Air con room,
which is considerably more expensive than a non AC room, sure the fan works in the a/c unit, its blowing and its moving, so it looks like it is working Ok, but managment can switch off the compressor motor remotely,so the unit does not actually chill, saving the hotel quite a few dollars in power costs.
This is what happened at this hotel, he said it was working, we said it wasnt, we had a lot of arguing and were going to check out, before the manager realised we were not just more stupid foreigners.
He did admit it was faulty eventually, and later what appeared to be a serviceman did something or other, then amazingly it was chilling perfectly.

Next more serious problem at this hotel was one of our rooms requested clean towells, which arrived with 2 room boys carrying a towell each !! both expecting a tip each I would imagine, and as it was not forthcoming on this occasion, my friends room was bolted from the outside, trapping them in the room untill freed later.
If there had of been a fire ,they would have been burnt to death.
I regard that action as just plain Criminal.
In general, always treat as suss, any hotel that insists you pay on checkin, rather then checkout,
Because of those 2 problems,I would definatly not reccomend this hotel.

Room Tip: Check room and make sure air con works before paying.

Hi,
It was a Last minute Travel To Rameshwaran. We found 3 Hotels at stretch in the same street. Here are Reviews about the same.

*Rooms smallish but very clean and neat.
* Check in & Check out is Prompt.
* No Restaurant Here. But service guys will get you food from other restaurant.
* Srervice is fine.
* You don't have dedicated parking you have to park in the Street. If you don't have a driver this is going to be troublesome.
* Location is close to Main gate of the Temple. You 3 or 4 options in the same locality.

I would Recommend this hotel for a day's stay if you are here for darshan and nothing else.
