We made the mistake of arriving in Ayutthaya without a hotel reservation - don't do this! All of our three top choices were full, and subsequently we landed here at the Ayutthaya Guesthouse. Fortunately, the place was completely empty and I chose the best room in the place (downstairs room with green walls and an air conditioner).

The best way that I can describe this place is that the owner puts in the least amount of work possible to create a semi-decent place. He and one maid appear to be the only people that work there - and he is hardly ever there (meaning if you have a question or need something, you'll likely be waiting for hours...). And, when he does show up he's really not very friendly at all (except to try and sell you a tourist package). The lobby and kitchen are cluttered. Most of the rooms are actually pretty gross (peeling paint on the walls, little to no windows, etc.). As I mentioned, we scored the only decent room - it was generally clean and recently painted, but it had a bad sewer smell and only one small window that didn't let in any light. The layout of the room itself is bizarre as well, and the toilet is in the room (not in a water closet) - so, if you're rooming with someone else it can be more than a bit awkward.

The only positives that I can give for this place is that the room was decently clean without bedbugs (though there were definitely quite a few mosquitoes lurking the room), and it was quite cheap (only USD 16 for a private room). The low price wasn't worth it to me though....

I stayed in a fan room with shared bath and the bed was awful. There was a giant metal bar in the middle without enough mattress so it became a hill and two valleys. The fan in the room was very dirty. I overheard a conversation between a couple that stayed downstairs and the boss over worms being in the bed, and the boss was only defensive and never apologetic. Also, the girl work works in the morning over at Streetlamp, the bar/restaurant also owned by the same guy, was very rude and actually tried to convince me not to eat there since it would cause her to work more...it worked. But it was the cheapest place in the area...so you get what you pay for.

Room tip: Don't stay on the bottom floor, they have worms.

Rooms are clean enough. But there is no blanket provided with the room. The toilets are not the best I have seen and the ceiling in that area is covered with spider webs.
The lobby furnished with worn furniture giving the place a really aged feel.
In short I would not recommend this place to people I know.

We arrived by train late at night and both guesthouses we had researched online prior to our visit were booked. We were walking around and got approached by one of the managers who showed us to a room. The first room he showed us had an en suite bathroom but no door to the toilet. I quickly told him to show us another room and he laughed at my boyfriend and I asking if we were family.

The next room was large, but the hallway leading up to the room had several dusty cabinets full of old bedding and trinkets, resembling an antique shop or grandmother's home. There was a large en suite bathroom with no hot water in the shower and explosive water pressure in the sink that shot out each time we turned it on. The television showed several English channels, and the bed was hard, but decent for a night. A cabinet for extra bedding was in the corner, and a foul smell emerged upon opening it.

I awoke in the morning to find my backpack completely soaked from either the ceiling or air con unit down onto the floor. In a pinch this room made due for a night, but I would not recommend Ayutthaya Guest House to anyone.

Moved to this guesthouse after having a horrible night with fleas or bed bugs at pu inn around the corner and we were angry we hadn't seen this gh first! Staff were accomdating but the room spoke for itself! Hot shower was actually hot and the bed soo comfortable we wished we were not on a tight schedule otherwise we would have stayed another night! Very happy!
