Before staying at this hotel I didn't really understand why people obsessively return to the same hotel over and over again. Now I do! I clearly hadn't found the right hotel yet! As soon as you arrive you feel incredibly at home with a drink and personal tour of your room by Chico (who is also your go-to guy for any bookings etc). All the staff make an effort to find out your name and they are good at judging if you want to join in or not. If you do want to join in, as we did, there are games of volleyball, darts and jenga to be had against the staff or in mixed teams. Nico (the bar staff's ringleader) will bet shots on the outcome of puzzles and card tricks. The owners Tony and Patrick were around when we were there, they had friends visiting and included all the guests in a boozy night at the bar.
We stayed in an Enchanted Villa, although this was the smallest of the rooms we experienced in Thailand it was perfectly ample. It is rustic, you will get insects and lizards in your room as you're pretty much in the jungle, but this wasn't an issue for us and there was a mosquito net. There were lovely touches such as a hammock outside each room along with a pot of water and wooden ladle to rinse the sand from your feet. There is a library of books, magazines and dvds at reception which are free to borrow.
As many others have already mentioned, you pretty much have the beach to yourself which is fantastic. It is a little rocky, so you just have to be careful at high tide. The resort was fully booked when we were there, but you could always get a sun lounger and it never felt busy. The pool is great and drinks were often hand delivered while we were in it! The massages on the beach were pricier than on other islands, but were awesome and so relaxing as the beach was so peaceful.
Breakfast is great, the bread was gorgeous and the daily changing home made cakes/pastries were fantastic. The restaurant food was very good quality, we thought it was the best of the other options on the beach. Both thai and western options were great, and there is a lot to choose from.
The only slight negative is the distance of the resort from anything else, but then that's also part of it's charm. The resort collected and dropped us back to the pier, a 40 minute drive, for free. We did a day trip with Lanta Longtails and a cooking course with Time for Lime and both were happy to collect and drop us back here.
We were so sad to leave! Thanks for an amazing time - we will be back!!!
