Overall we had a great time at the Sri Lanta and would definitely recommend it. Our initial room was second from the top and while I dont consider myself lazy at all, the thought of completely sweating by the time we hiked up the hill to reach our room wasn't very appealing, but the staff was very accommodating and moved us down to beach level. We loved the overall authentic Thai feel of the rooms and resort. The front desk staff were helpful and friendly. It was very convenient being able to rent scooters from the front desk. Service at the bar/restaurant was mediocre at best. Our drinks order was forgotten and when I went over to follow up, about 7 staff were in a conversation and weren't in a hurry to help me. My 2 issues with the room were that the bed was excruciatingly hard (even by Asian standards) to the point where it gave me a sore back. And the bathroom was just too "bare bones". I realize the goal is rustic, but a little more effort could be put into the bathrooms for the standard/price of the resort. Overall, a nice stay.

We spent 6 nights at Sri Lanta in early December last year. I had sonme little reservations given the fact that some review were very disappointed, but as soon as we arrived at the resort all my doubts disappeared in one second!

First thing, the resort is located in the less touristy area of Lanta, much more secluded, quiet and with a better beach. At the moment we arrived we have been greeted with an amazing smile by Muoai ( i hope i got it right...), the check in takes a couple of minutes and we are taken to our lovey room. True, simple thai jungle decor. exactly what we wanted. Any cement, ceramic tiles and similar would be absolutely out of place here! Contrary to what others said, we didn'f find a single bug, or dirt, o smell or other unpleadsant surprise. The "road" that divide the area of the bungalows from the rest of the hotel is actually a little narrow road, not at all busy. and the walk back to our room took about 5 minutes, no major problem at all. Actually, it is really lovely to walk around the grounds of the hotel which are lovely and very well kept.

The pool area is lovely, clean and well looked after, great and fast service of drinks from the bar. We always found towels and and some space to lay. It is true that sometimes it was a little hard to find a chair by the pool, but only because some people would go there in the early morning and park all their staff everywere. but this is a problem with rude people, not with the hotel.

in 6 days at Sri Lanta, we had most of our meals at the hotel restaurant. we did really enjoied the thai food, tasty, quite authentic ( maybe a little less spicy than usual...) and its good variety. Plenty of options also for our little 2 yo Nina with pastas and pizza and simple salads to choose from. But the real reason why we had all our meals here was simply the kindness of the staff. It is true that you feel everybody is smiling at you in Thailand, but nowhere like here we felt welcomed and greeted at all time. It is not a pose, the staff seems to be quite generally happy to be where they are, and they do anything they can to put you at ease.
Nina had become a very loved one by all the staff, and me and my wife we also enjoyed a couople of quieter dinners while the restaurant staff were all cheering and playing with our daughter. No baby sitter could have been nicer!!!

Regarding the spa, it is true that it is more expensive that other massage joints in the area...but i can say that it is also a very different setting. The spa is just divine, set by the beach, but nestled by some plants in a fantastic tropical garden, very private and relaxing. I would not spare a couple of hundreds bath (about 5 euros) to get a massage in a little room divided by courtains with other 6 people. Also the staff of the spa, goes withoust saying was the nicest.

We did a tour that the recption suggested and it worked out very nicely and no stress, every time we wanted the hotel would organize our little trips out calling a cab, using tyhe car of the hotel or arranging a tuk tuk within minutes from us asking.

What can i say? This was paradise. The location makes it easy to feel good, but it is definetely the people that makes this place amazing. I hope we will be able to come back in the future!

thank you very much to all the staff at Sri Lanta for making our stay such a memorable one!

Although we loved the location, setting and public spaces at Sri Lanta there were a number of issues that we felt let it down and meant we didn't feel it had value for money.

1) The service was consistently poor - it took an age to get served at the bar, they were very slow at collecting glasses/plates, especially from the sunbeds, and reception staff forgot to make a restaurant booking for us and neglected to provide full information about services such as the yoga class (if you are the only one to book, you have to pay nearly double since it is counted as a private class).

2) Breakfast is on low level seating which is irritating, especially for older people and they play very irritating repetitive spa style music.

3) There were a number of issues with our room. We were in 317 which was a very manageable walk:
*The floor was over polished so you slipped, especially on the rug/welcome mat
*The bathroom floor was on a slope, coupled with the polish residue on your feet meant you slipped as you stepped into the bathroom
*Our shower flooded the rest of the bathroom
*The safe was under our bed which makes it difficult to get things in out / see as the room is quite dark. The safe key is attached to the key fob that needs to go in the slot for power, so you have to risk losing the key by taking it off the fob.
*Our balcony was to the side rather than the front as the villas had been designed, so it was difficult to get in/out and without letting lots of insects in.
*The fridge doesn't stay on when you leave the room.
*You couldn't turn the outside light off which disturbed us when trying to sleep.
*The mosquito net above the four-poster bed hadn't been cleaned in a long time - there were loads of dead bugs on it which wasn't nice to look at while it bed.
*The coffee table was also quite grubby

5) The sunbeds / bean bags need an update, quite a few are broken.

4) The yoga classes cost the same as at home which is unusual, although the class itself was good.

All in all we had an ok, if slightly irritating stay and we probably wouldn't return.

The good stuff.

The rooms are clean and with great views, they have everything you could want, but the local mosque will call you for prayer when you might want to sleep. there is also a road between the rooms and the main hotel.

The food and restaurant are great and the view is just wonderful, it is a little more expensive than the other places you could eat at further up the beach. but it is worth eating at the hotel the staff and service is very good.

The beach and pool areas are wonderful. Overall we had a fab 5 days here. look out for the monkeys and birds that hag about the place.

not much to see if you want to snorkel off the beach.

Room Tip: Try not to be too far from the main area of the Hotel or its a bit of a walk

We stayed at Sri Lanta for the 2nd week of our trip to Thailand. We had a brilliant holiday and really enjoyed our stay at the resort however there are a couple of things that would have made it even better.

On the positive side, our Star Path Villa was absolutely lovely. We loved the location up in the trees. The bed was big and comfortable and the wooden villa had real character. The terrace area was lovely and great to sit out at having an evening beer and listening to the sounds of the forest. The bath on the terrace was a bit pointless and didn't look as if anyone had used it for ages. There was a mossie net on the bed which wasn't necessary at the time of year that we stayed but definitely nice to have. The bathroom was fine, no air conditioning in there but had everything we needed and a nice big shower (complete with gorgeous gekko in the water heater cabinet :-))
The zen concept of the resort meant that there were no chairs in the room, just a low table and cushions. This was absolutely fine with us as why would we sit inside rather than outside when the surroundings are so beautiful?
Based on previous reviews I was concerned that the walk up to the villa would be really tough, this is seriously not a problem. We are by no means super fit and we coped just fine. It did make me puff a little in the heat of the day but I just took it easy and enjoyed the scenery on the way up. To be specific it probably took no more than 4 mins to walk from the beach to our star path villa. Only people with limited mobility should have a problem.

The main area of the resort was beautifully done. The wooden buildings, ponds, gardens and plants were beautiful and really made the resort feel in harmony with the island, rather than being a big concrete monstrosity.

Breakfast was fine. The seating in the restaurant area was all low level cushions which was ok. There were some 'proper' tables outside but there was no shade so they were not that appealing. We ate dinner from the restaurant once and the food was good although not necessarily better than the far cheaper bars and restaurants down the beach.

The beach and pool area were lovely. We only went in the pool once as much preferred the sea which was stunning. Sri Lanta is on a beautiful beach which is perfect for swimming and wallowing.

Now to the 2 things that stopped me from giving Sri Lanta a higher rating:

1. Shade: It was HOT when we visited and the opportunity for shade on the beach and at the beach bar was very very limited. The sun loungers had parasols but by lunchtime they were useless due to the position of the sun. We tried to move them around but there was no way of doing this. We were not the only people struggling. There was some shade from the trees in the gardens but this meant you lost the view of the sea which was a real shame. There were a number of tables on the beach as part of the beach bar but there were no parasols at all in this area, I did ask on the first day but was told there were none. It seems mad as this meant that we walked up the beach to eat lunch and enjoy some beers at other establishments that were able to offer some shade. I must point out that I am a bit of a sun worshipper so wouldn't have thought that I would find this a problem however the fact that there was no option for shade from the very very hot sun was a real negative.

2. Service: I must point out that we did receive some brilliant service at Sri Lanta, particularly from the lovely lady cooking eggs at breakfast and one of the receptionists. However, this was not consistent through the whole of the resort. Firstly, the service in the beach bar was pretty shoddy. At some points we were the only people at the bar and it took far too long for the bar staff to acknowledge and serve us. To be honest, this got better towards the end of our stay but was still not great. When we did get served there were a couple of individuals who were pretty surly and Gave the impression that we were inconveniencing them by interrupting their conversations. Also, during our first couple of days there was a bit of evidence of a 'sloppy' approach. For example there were glasses left on tables for hours and there were lamps that had blown over that were not picked up all day. It was nothing major it just gave the impression that the staff didn't care that much. In addition, when we visited reception to book some trips we weren't treated with the same warm hospitality that we had experienced everywhere else in Thailand. The last annoyance was that we had a 6am pick up on our day of departure and, despite me checking 3 times the previous day, when I called for our bags to be collected there was no answer. This meant we had to take our bags down to the road ourselves which was a bit of a struggle due to the steps and the hill. It wasn't the end of the world and we managed just fine, it was just annoying.

Despite all of this we did have a great time and really liked Sri Lanta and its concept. I would recommend it as a place to stay, particularly to those people who prefer an 'Eco' approach rather than a sanitised concrete resort. I just hope that the staff were having a bad week when we were there and that the management can come up with a shade solution for the beach.

We stayed here for 3 nights and was by far the highlight of our trip to Thailand. The hotel had a fantastic feel to it and created a relaxing atmosphere. Well managed by the NZ manager and staff were personal and friendly. Kept with Thai traditions and brilliant location on Koh Lanta. No complaints - will be returning next year. Those complaining about the short walk to the room need to have a lazy bone removed.

We have been in Koh Lanta for the third time and I have to say that the main reason is Sri Lanta. To be here is like to be in paradise. The bungalows are quite comfortable, the beach is one of the best in the island, the food and drinks are great but the treatment of the guest is the best of the best. Due to my job I have had the chance to be in very nice hotels in different countries and I have to say that I have seen the highest level of service ever at the Sri Lanta. Everybody smiles and tries to make you feel as good as possible.

It is important to say that the hotel is on a hill, what means that you have to walk up to reach your room. For us it was not a problem because the way up to there is quite nice.

We are looking forward to the fourth time!!!!!
