The Klong Nin beach is beautiful, this is definitely the best part of Koh Lanta and there are several other really cool and less developed beaches just south of Klong Nin. The hotel staff were really friendly and helpful. Definitely go for the Verandah villa, little less rough and ready than the cheaper one. Lots of families with kids, probably more than we anticipated but lots of places to go hang out around the hotel away from the kids if you want some peace and quiet. Highly recommend.

My wife and I stayed here for 4 nights in mid-January. The resort is pretty big, with a bunch of bungalows dotting the hillside across the street from the common area. In spite of its size, the staff remain personable and friendly.

We had the basic "cottage", which was more than ample for our needs. The room was tastefully decorated and very comfortable. Hot water and pressure was good, A/C worked like a champ. Those looking for a standard "one big building" hotel will be disappointed, and you need to be willing to have a bit of an uphill walk to get to your room.

The breakfast buffet was quite extensive and the food was good. There are always eggs made to order, fruit, yogurt, muesli, assorted breakfast meats, tea, coffee, and even a few Thai items like noodles and fried rice. One morning I brought a dragonfruit that I had purchased at the local market down to breakfast with me, and I asked one of the servers whether she could put it in the blender for me to make a fruit shake. She happily obliged this odd request and the result was delicious.

Note that the free wifi is in the common areas, not in your room. Once you see the place you'll understand that it would be cost prohibitive to try and wire the entire hillside for room access, and we found it very pleasant to hang out in the outdoor lounge for our internet time.

When we first arrived at the pier on Lanta, we waited 30 minutes for the transfer that we had pre-arranged with the hotel. To make it up to us, they comped the transfer and offered 2 free 15-minute massages.

Overall we had a very nice stay at Sri Lanta. Cost was 2900B (high season), including breakfast, taxes, etc. You can find cheaper, but we felt it was a reasonable price for their facilities + location on Khlong Nin. The beach is beautiful and good for swimming; there are some rocks, but they are easily avoided.

Aside from breakfast, we didn't try the restaurant (although we did have a good fruit shake from the beach bar and the a la carte prices were in-line with other beachfront dining). We did try several good restaurants nearby. I recommend Roi Thai and Cook-Kai.

This stretch of Ko Lanta is far from remote, although the huts spread out on the hillside above the hotel give the impression of spaciousness.

The real problem was down by the beach: not enough sun-loungers for all the hotels guests; impossible to get even a bottle of water before 11.30; a really limited lunchtime menu without any vegetarian options; useless staff who seldom get an order right, and take an eternity to do anything; dirty loos with nothing to dry your hands on; endless musak at mealtimes, although when it briefly paused we realised it masked the clattering kitchen and shouting staff; no sense of pride or care in anything about the hotel.

In short, under new management this could be good value and a nice enough spot - for now, don't bother.

Great resort to relax, a bit far away from a town (except if you rent a motorbike), but great place to be quiet. The rooms are very simple, but charming, small cottages in the forest, very clean, AC (except in the bathroom - a bit stuffy and humid!), healthy and simple breakfast, free WIFI around the lobby/restaurants, the food is really good and not expensive (although you can find great and cheap restaurants on the beach), the staff is really nice and helpful although (and that would be the only negative point), the level of English is usually poor (hard to be understood/to understand sometimes...). Great pool and the beach is beautiful, accessible via a nice and big garden with lounge chairs. Excursions to other islands are organized by the hotel and you can also ask for private transfers to Krabi airport (very well organized). The spa is also great!

Not sure I am doing the hotel justice with my individual criteria ratings as what you have to remember is that the rooms are supposed to be rustic, traditional and somewhat isolated.

Getting there - we used their transfer service which was very efficient, on time both there and back. Probably a little overpriced but I would suggest that to get there you should use it and then figure out how to get back to Krabi using the ferry (about 4 hours) if you want to save a bit.

The rooms - As with a number of the top hotels on the islane, the rooms are on the opposite side of a road to the main restaurant/beach/pool area. This is no problem as the road is not busy. It also means that you are 3 minute walk from the beach, not really very far as it is all down hill to get there! We took our beach gear to breakfast to save that short walk back.
Very few of the rooms have see views as you are essentially within a jungle-type environment.
Very nicely lit meandering path to rooms
Two main types of rooms:
Starpath (more expensive) - more secluded and towards the top of the hill, have a bath on the balcony which is very nice if you want to stay around your room a little. Main differences to the other rooms are more seclusion, bath on balcony and large balcony. See below for more room description.
Standard - Has a mini bar and 4 poster bed, the room was clean (speaking for our room), nicely lit if you want to open the shutters.
As you are a little in the wild there are lots of spiders, centipedes etc and some eventually make it into the room but very few. The website pictures make the rooms look better finished than they are but once we got over the difference we thought the rooms were great, peaceful and value for money particularly as the beach area is so nice.

Beach area - Complimetary breakfast was excellent, eggs cooked in front with whatever you want in them, then various warm buffet items, sausage, bacon, pad thai, potato etc, salad, cheese, olives, various fruit and cereal. Everything you might want.
The breakfast area is about 15 metres from the beach in the open area - NICE!
Pool area is clean and next to the beach and there is a second sunbed area with various shade nearer to the bar.
This is a great setting.
Drinking and DIning - Day drinks should be brought from the seperate bar area as they are cheaper than the main hotel bar.....Why? something about guests and non-guest drinks but we were not told this until after the first day. Little bit strange. They do lots of cocktails for 250 BAht I believe , Beer was 100 Baht. Bar snack menu pretty good. We ate in the main restaurant at night twice......surpassed our expectations, western and thai selections.
Staff - They were entertaining in an unintentional way. English was not widely spoken but this was relatively common throughout Thailand. A smile, pointing and a few actions get you a long way. Staff were courteous and enthusiastic but lacked some training....may have been because it was early season and they were new. E.g. when on the sunbed or around the pool you had to go looking for them to order a drink, for me it is in their interest to occasionally ask whether you would like a drink. But generally their enthusiasm made up for it and some of them were exceptional.
Spa - Wife had a spa session and said it was excellent 1 hour 30 mins for £20.
Other - you can hire a scooter from the hotel for 300 Baht a day, no helmet (British thing). 4 stop snorkelling trip was great.
We ate out at Same Same But Different (taxi 300 Baht each way - standard rate) at a cost of about £20 for two for two starters and two mains and drinks.....food and atmosphere were great. We also ate at hotel Pimilai twice......expensive hotel £40 for two very good meals in a beautiful setting. The yellow crab curry was the best curry I have ever tasted.

This is a lovely resort. I read all the reviews and was a bit nervous but the resort is now under new management and they are really trying hard to improve the resort. The staff are super friendly and will do anything for you. The rooms are gorgeous - we had a Star Path room which is very high up - quiet a walk but lovely. We had a bathtub outside which was just awesome! the room is very tastefully done up! The bar opened the day we arrived & they have done a good job! The breakfast is nice. We never ate at the restaurant - it was too expensive but there are loads of bars along the beach & close by. The pool is just wonderful and there are loads of sun loungers to lie on. It is a lovely beach and the water is so warm!!!
