We really enjoyed our stay. The staff were very accommodating. However, the hotel is located on the side of a cliff and it is VERY steep and hilly. That said they do run a service that will collect you to and from your room/apartment upon request. A few minutes wait at most.
The rooms were lovely but there were a few things like mouldy sealant and that needed addressing.
Breakfast was great. Cannot understand how people are saying that it was lacking. You could have a full English except the beans or continental or American pancake breakfast. They even served Thai soup and sushi if you wanted it. However we never ate there for dinner. There were just too many more affordable options in the town 5 mins drive away. There is a free shuttle service into town also.
Don't bother with the Reggae Bar. The food was rubbish and the drinks comparatively extortionate compared to bar a five minute walk away.
The hotel's beach was okay but preferred the public beach next door which is accessible via the hotel situated to the right as you leave the entrance gate of the hotel. That hotel also has a beach bar and restaurant selling good food. Also book your transfer to the airport from there also. Much more reasonable than Crown Lanta.
Finally, even though we could have got scooters cheaper elsewhere, we booked at reception because they don't hold your passport which most places insist on even though it's prohibited in Thailand.

Thank you for sharing your experience and few great tips for future guests as there are several wonderful restaurants, bars, and services located within walking distance to the resort - giving you no need on some days to rent a tuk tuk or a scooter. Love to hear you enjoyed the breakfast spread, took advantage of our onsite (on demand) buggy service, and of course enjoyed our accommodating staff members. Thank you again for taking the time to share.

I’m really surprised to read the bad reviews some people have given on Crown Lanta recently.

We stayed there for 5 days in the beginning of January and had a really good time. The weather was not perfect and yes, the sea was a bit rough from time to time, but hey, can you really blame the hotel for that :)?

We enjoyed our stay, the service was good and we found the property really beautiful with lush gardens.

Can’t really say much on the food in the hotel, except for breakfast that was delicious, as we ate mainly in Sala Dan or restaurants scattered on Klong Dao beach. It's not the most beautiful beach but was excellent for walking and jogging. There was also a cool bar/restaurant 5 min from the hotel, Rock Beach Bar.

Rooms were a bit smaller than we expected, but nice and had everything we needed + the balcony was big and the other room had a great seaview.

We knew in advance having read Tripadvisor and other reviews that the property was hilly and were only happy to climb the stairs and the hills to get some fat burning and, if not in the mood, used the shuttle service provided that was working really well. Also the shuttle to Sala Dan worked well.

As the wifi was not that reliable it gave us a healthy break from the iPhone/iPad overload as we could just live in the moment and “be present” with friends and family instead of surfing the internet.

We used both pools as we had one room by the main pool and the other by the lap pool and always found a free sunbed. For Scandinavian fair skin it was great that by the main pool the trees gave shelter from the burning sun on those days when we were lucky to get some.

The private beach was pretty and quiet and we loved the reggae bar treehouses.

Overall, a very relaxing and good experience and I couldn’t really wish for more! Hope to be back in Crown Lanta soon 

Napix - thank you for your review, it's nice to hear you had a lovely time while staying with us. It's great you took advantage of the nearby long, public beach for running and jogging and the beach bar next door for a close (walkable) evening out - those are great tips for future guests. It also sounds like you spent some time on site and were able to enjoy the Reggae Bar, private beach, and pools. Again, thank you for sharing and great to hear you had a relaxing stay with family and friends. We look forward to seeing you again.

The location is nice and we liked the pool area. But we were really disappointed by the food. Breakfast was mostly tastless. We tried once dinner service and it was just bland. That is why we always had dinner outside the hotel. And in general the hotel needs a renovation.

I would highly recommend that you look else where when it comes to finding a place to stay in Ko Lanta. The island has plenty of places to stay that are much cheaper and I would assume safer.

We were upgrade to their villa at the top of the hill that includes a private pool and large deck. I am 6' 2', 205 lbs, and a board on the deck literally gave out when I set one foot on it. This led to me falling through and experiencing significant cuts/bruising to deal with for the remainder of my trip.

How do you think they addressed the issue? It took way to long for someone to come to the room with a first aid kit that barely had anything in it... thankfully there was some alcohol that we used to properly clean the cuts. While this was happening two of the hotel workers actually got distracted by fisherman rather than attending to the guest who had just fell through the deck. We tried to speak to a manager to get the issue resolved but unfortunately no one followed up with us that could speak english and they offered a free dinner as compensation.

We also spent a day out exploring ko lanta as best as we could given my injury and when we returned there was a second hole in the deck. This must have happened when the staff came to clean the room for the day. However, they decided it was a good idea to not address the issue until we actually called down to reception to let them know what had happened.

I have spent the last week or so going back and forth with them via email because no one was available to speak with when we checked out. Essentially what they have offered is 2 free nights the next time we visit knowing that we are from California and will most likely never be back.

Matt - lovely to hear you guys were upgraded to the Grand Villa. We regret to hear about your experience with the decking. As you write in your review, we have been going back and forth via email, and we did and still continue to apologize for the board that broke under your foot. However, we would like to mention to readers that we immediately offered you professional medical attention, to which you denied. Luckily it did look like you were able to still very much enjoy the remainder of your stay with us, including the complimentary dinner and drinks for four. Which is why we were a bit taken aback when we received your email stating you would like a full refund for your stay with us due to the scrap you encountered. We have many guests who return year after year, from the States, so in no way did we offer you a 2-night credit with the expectations you state above. Again, we apologize for your experience.

We stayed for 4 nights. The staff at reception are miserable, can barely look up and when they do, without a smile. The rooms are comfortable - but you need to be careful where you end up, ideally around the pool, which we did. The rooms are good, but somewhat run down and housekeeping do a half hearted job. By the end, we had to call for towels, for water, for glasses etc. The pool is lovely and the bar is fun - however the decking surrounding the pool is run down, the children's toys are from the 80s. The food at the restaurant is simply tasteless - a real shame as we just wanted a night in as it's about a 10 miniute tuk tuk to town, we didn't have a second night in! The management is rude and really couldn't care less. All in all, there are far prettier, comfier, friendlier places and i absolutely wouldn't visit Crown Lanta again.

Elisabeth - we appreciate you taking the time to share your experience and regret to hear you won't be returning. The views on the resort are lovely, we are sorry to hear you did not have a good experience with our management team or staff. As with all of our reviews (good or bad) we will share this in the team meeting and work to improve upon those things mentioned.
