My wife and I have just spent 4 nights at The Houben following the recommendations on Tripadvisor, We were greeted out of our taxi by the reception staff and shown to our room 302 on the top 3rd floor. There is no lift in the Hotel but we didn't feel a need for it and always enjoyed taking in the surrounding views while going to our room. On entering the room we were impressed by the large size of the room and the impressive full glass front leading onto the balcony. The Houben has 15 rooms and the design is clearly to have a reduced number of rooms but of a higher standard and size than the norm for the area of the Hotel Site. All the rooms have a Sea View and the Sunset Views are outstanding. Between the Hotel and the sea is the pool area, this consists of a large pool and Spa Bath, as there are only 15 rooms we often had the Pool and Spa to ourselves. To the side of the Hotel is a wooded section and we were pleasantly surprised to see Monkeys playing in the trees. Despite the wooded area, we suffered no insect bites during our stay, despite rarely applying insect repellent and we were not aware of any other guests being bitten.
We used the Red Alert Restaurant almost entirely for all our meals during our 4 day stay, we found the food to be excellent and not overly expensive for a Hotel of this quality.
The general cleanliness of our room, the pool, restaurant and public areas was immaculate with no issues what so ever.
This is an impressively designed Hotel and only 5 years old so in excellent condition.
Because of all of the above I would have no hesitation in recommending this Hotel if fact I would certainly encourage people to stay here, however I have not yet mentioned the most impressive part of our stay and that was the staff.
Every single member of staff went out of their way to make us welcome at the Hotel, they were always courteous and smiling and genuinely appeared to be happy working at The Houben. What was particularly impressive was the young lady who appeared to manage the Hotel and staff on a day to day basis, her name is Shana and I believe she is the daughter of the Hotel owner, From day one Shana makes a point of addressing all her guests by their names, she is friendly, amusing and extremely hard working. During our stay we continually witnessed her involving herself in every aspect of the running of the Hotel, from reception, to restaurant, bar, pool duties, and even cleaning. We actually thought their must be twins as she appeared to be every where, she always concerned herself that we were enjoying every moment of our stay at The Houben, she is a credit to The Hotel and her family, a remarkable young lady.
Our only complaint that we had with this Hotel is that we only stayed there 4 nights – our loss.
