“Great Stay!”
Reviewed 24 November 2011

My boyfriend and I are backpackers at the moment and we had a horrible place in Phi Phi so when we decided to stay 5 days on Ko Lanta we wanted it to be a nice place and the Ananda Lanta most certainly was.

Rooms
Are very crisp and clean with a built in aircon, private bathroom and a balcony that looks out onto the front of the hotel and I am pretty sure most of them have a bit of an ocean view. You get beach/pool towels as well as bath towels provided and the room is cleaned on a daily basis.

Staff
They were all very helpful, always saying good morning or good night and offered to carry my very heavy rucksack up the stairs to the room or from the car to the front desk.

Pool
Is an infinity pool and although there are only about 16 sun beds around the pool it was never packed and you could always find one free even at 2pm.

Breakfast
This is buffet style, and has eggs made to order (by a little guy on an egg station) sausages, toast, fruit, cereal and drinks.

Location
Like most resorts in Ko Lanta there isn't a lot nearby other than a handful of restaurants and a few souvenir shops. The main shopping area is at the pier and restaurants are dotted all over at the different beach areas. We hired a scooter from the hotel for 250BHT a day and went all over trying different restaurants. You can walk to the main pier but it would take about 30 mins.
The beach is less than 100m away and you can take a short cut through the Adaman Resort and use their facilities as well as they are partner resorts but to be honest the Ananda is far better.

The only negative things I have to say about this place is no free wifi and what they charge for it is expensive even for Thailand. Although there were bars nearby that provided free wifi with a purchase of a drink etc. Secondly the shower pressure wasn't fabulous. This said we would both return to this place in a heartbeat!

We stayed at Ananda for one month. The rooms are great. Big with nice interior. All the room facilities are fantastic....but....if the service is not good, the best of room can make the stay disappointing.

1. The staff seemed to lack management, they tried to help but it never turned out the right way.

2. Blame the customer. When we checked in, the trash bin was broken, not a big thing but we carried it down to the reception so it could be fixed since we stayed one month. The first question with a hostile tone from the staff in the reception was "Did you break it" and we tried to get them to fix some issues in our room (like when the plumming did not work) there where no interest, so we had to fix that form ourselves.

3. Since we stayed there for 30 days we thought that a major cleaning and new sheets would happen at some point, but no. So we had to take the sheets of and toss them on the floor form the cleaners to get the point, but no, not that either, they only put it back on the bed without sheets on, so we had to go and get a new sheet from the reception and do it our selves.

This was a few of twenty somethingminormissues that made our stay not the best.

They did not care about the pool that much and they filled it with so much chemicals that you could not see the pool floor. The wifi do not work in the rooms only in reception and on some balconies.

The location actually is better then we initially thought and the view from the rooms are over the ocean.
The conclusion is in the headline.

Our experience with Ananda Lanta was a great. We were three young girls on a budget and this was the luxury of our trip, yet still quite affordable. It's much cheaper than a lot of the accommodation we came across, and it was a very comfortable, clean hotel, with incredibly friendly staff. It's cheaper than Andaman Resort (probably because it is not directly on the beach) but it is only a five minute walk away, where you are entitled to all of their facilities (a restaurant, pool, beach chairs, etc.). It has its own pool as well, an infinity pool, which although lacks the view of the beach, was very quiet and always had a chair available. Breakfast was good: toast, cereal, coffee, tea, juice, meat (ham/bacon/sausage), pancakes, an omelet prepared to your liking, yogurt, fruit, and a few other dishes were provided buffet style each morning. All of the staff we came across were so friendly and helpful, no complaints with service whatsoever.
Overall, we had a lovely stay and I would highly recommend this resort to people of all ages who are looking for great value.

After a bad experience at Ocean View resort in Koh Lanta, the review is on trip advisor, we walked up the road and this hotel had rooms available for us which was very lucky as it was peak season in Thailand and the staff at reception were ever so friendly and even gave us a cheaper price because of all the hassle we went through that day. We were very grateful. :-)

The hotel room was absolutely stunning, and even had a bath with superb views of the large pool and the sea in the distance.

The breakfast was nice, although the staff cooking the omelettes should have been able to speak more english. I asked for the omelette to be well done as sometimes the Thai's do not cook them properly and they are kind of sloppy in the middle and I got scrambled egg??!!

This hotel isn't on the beach but they also have another hotel called the Andaman Lanta Resort which is just across the road, and you can access the nice beach through that resort anyway. It's only a 100 metres away or so.

The pool was so nice, and it was very relaxing just lazing beside it. :-)

This was the only hotel that I stayed in whilst in Thailand that you had to pay to use the wifi - I think that this should be free.

Whilst in Koh Lanta, I would recommend that you hire a motorbike for 200THB per day as the Tuk Tuk people try to rip you off a bit and you will pay the same price just to go 1 way into the town which is only 6 mins away.

Would definately recommend this hotel - it really was one of the best I stayed in! :-)

The Ananda Lanta resort appears to be a relatively new hotel and compared to its slightly shabby sister hotel (Andaman Lanta Resort) is very tidy and well put together. The rooms are large and airy and were clean and tidy, as were the other general hotel areas, including a nice swimming pool which has been made in the infinity pool style.

We stayed just as the season had started and of the 68 rooms only 2 or 3 were occupied. This however did not mean that standards dropped. Every morning when we went down for breakfast (which was a fairly good a la carte) there were 2 waiters and a chef standing by to help us and they had probably been standing there since breakfast began at 7am.
The hotel is located about a 3 min tuk-tuk ride from Saladan town center and this meant that it was quite quiet in the surrounding area, also the hotel was on the opposite side of the road from the beach and about 400m up a slope from the road, this also helped to eliminate traffic noise. It was no more than a 2 minute walk and 200 taxi offers to the beach; however crossing the road at times was fairly hazardous.

We did have a few problems with our rooms; firstly there was so little pressure in the shower that it took some serious dance moves to get wet enough to begin any kind of soaping. Secondly not even Harry Potter could have waved his wand and got hot water, just as it got warm, so back it went to cold. These two issues were mentioned at once to reception and to be fair they did get on the case, but alas neither were fixed before our 4 night stay was over. This might be down to pre-season teething problems or a general problem, either way it must be fixed.
Two other small criticisms were very hard beds(this can of course be a matter of taste) and an air-con system that sounded like a helicopter was landing on the roof. Also the rooms were not so well sound insulated so sounds from rooms above, below and next door were heard but not enough to cause any serious discomfort.

On a positive note, the staff in the entire hotel - from bellboy to manager - were extremely friendly, courteous and helpful. When one of our party fell ill they drove her first to the clinic one evening and when this was closed they drove her to the hospital the next morning and waited and helped with translation issues when they arose. Also during a heavy rain induced, island-wide power cut – we found out the hotel had its own backup generator which was a nice touch.

All in all if you can overlook the small problems that we had then this hotel is good value for money and quite well located away from the hustle and bustle. I would return here but not for more than 1 or 2 nights.

we were more than surprised when we entered in the room. it was absolutely over expectations comparing with information and pictures in broshure.
+ a lot of space in the room
+ shover and bath
+ ability to use andaman resort (the same hotel group) hotel's service: just 2 minutes walk from ananda and you are already at here. it is in the beach, breakfast were here also, ability to use swiming pool.
+ friedly staff
+ convenient service: motorbike rent, hotel transfering for free (pier - hotel -pier)
+ ability to negotiate :) (as we were on low season)

unfortunately:
- the hotel is not on the beach;
- we got lizard in the room which made strange sounds and small ants- so please do not eat in a room ;)
- swiming pool was with chemicals (they were not melted)
- not much hot water in bath
