This resort was amazing. We loved it so much we ended up extending our stay from just one night to a total of 7 nights.
The resort is almost brand new. It was built 1.5yrs ago (as of May '14). As a result all the buildings and facilities are in great shape.
We had a bungalow (all the bungalows are identical in furnishings) which was cleaned every day to a very high standard. We received fresh bath towels and beach towels daily. The mattress was comfortable although was sat directly ontop of a concrete plinth rather than a box spring or wooden slats, this didn't bother us but could affect more sensitive sleepers. The AC in the bungalow worked really well and as a result we had some very good sleeps. The bathroom was fine, lots of space and the hot shower worked. It could have had more pressure but it did the job.
The other facilities in the resort were good too. A beautiful pool with a sea view, perfect for lounging in with a cocktail. A very nice restaurant with great seating areas including 3 double hammocks. The food was good but not the best we had in Koh Lanta. It was a little more expensive than roadside restaurants but still competitively priced considering the beach side location. There was a massage area and a dive shop on location. The dive shop was closed May-Oct. There was a small fleet of mopeds to rent and they were in great condition. No chance of a scam here.
We negotiated (in person) a 900B/night rate for the bungalow because we stayed in off-season for 7 nights. Compared to what we paid in other places we are pleased to have got this deal.
The surrounding area has two superb restaurants. Kwan's Kitchen was the best Thai food we ate in Thailand and also ran a cooking school. It was relatively cheap for the quality and run by the most adorable couple ever. Greek Tavern la Greca was about 500m down the road and also superb food at a reasonable price. Next door to Coco Lanta you will find Freedom Bar which is run by some very friendly locals who create a very hospitable atmosphere.
Perhaps the highlight of the whole stay were the staff at Coco Lanta. They were the friendliest Thai people we have ever met. And when you put that in the context of all the rest of Thai people you meet in Thailand you must realise that the staff at Coco Lanta really are something special. We LOVED them.
