“We didn´t want to leave this great place!”
Reviewed 19 July 2011

A dream hotel. Me and my boyfriend, we travel a lot, but we both agreed that this was the best hotel we have ever visited. I have to mention that the staff makes half of the whole impression. We stayed here just 5 nights and we felt very sad to leave this perfect place.

From the trips we did the boat trip with snorkelling and it was a great experience, lunch was included and we saw also the Morakot cave, a beautiful place. Don´t forget to take your camera with you, we didn´t do it and then we regreted that.
The other trip was Island discovery, but we wanted to change the program of a bit , because we read some reviews about Ko Lanta and we wanted to visit the National park, so the manager arranged everything for us for the same price. Some fruits and drinks again included. The route to the park is not made yet, so the travel in jeep was quite stressful, but it was worth to go there. We were just a bit disappointed of the driver, because we were told that he speaks English very well, but he didn´t. This is also one of the missing thing to make it perfect, but who has travelled in Asia knows that the people don´t speak English very much.

We were here during "the rainy season", but there was just a short shower in 5 days and if it rains you can go to spa or borrow a DVD from the library they have in the resort. Of course, it could be a bit risky and maybe we were lucky, but it´s worth the try. And even the price is good for such service during the rainy season. For shopping and going to bars it´s not convenient to come in ow season, because many shops and bar are closed, so except the trips we stayed just in the resort and we weren´t bored.
The pool is quite big in comparison to the pools we have seen in the hotels of neighbourhood. If you don´t like Thai food you can still choose from food they offer in their restaurant, but \i guess that after one week I would run out of the options. We had also fruits in the room for free.

The fitness center is very small and there is almost nothing (for women especially), this would be the worst thing about his hotel.

And also the fact we were greeted by the owner on arrival made an impression.

We were leaving early in the morning and we couldn´t go for the breakfast, but we were given a packed food for the travel, this has never happened to us.

We will always remember this place and we might come back.

We spent 12 amazing days at Layana.
Our experience started with a entertaining 2 hour trip from Krabi Airport over 2 ferries to the resort where we got welcomed by the general manager Christoph and lots of friendly smiling Thai faces.
We had booked the Beach suite which was exactly what we needed, spacious, private and with all the amenities you may need.
The first impression was a big WOW!
A big Bathroom with an outside shower, enough cupboard space for 10 suitcases, a big flat screen TV, a dvd player, a day bed (which i would have loved to take home) a mini bar with incredible fair prices (50Bt for a Singa) a view to die for ...etc etc..
It must have been the first time ever on a holiday that we ate all our meals at the resorts Restaurant.
As only a couple of rooms where occupied (off season) there was only on Sundays a buffet for breakfast (with bubbly) but the ala carte B’fast was all you really needed and you didn’t have to get up... as the food arrived in minutes and the “brilliant” waiting staff know already after the second day our choice of coffee and fruit etc! You could see that the F&B manager Florian spends a lot of time with training of the staff.
For Lunch we stayed at the pool side and ordered from the snack menu which was served by the pool staff with a big smile! During the day they served chilled fruit skewers, ice water and cold towels, which where much appreciated.
The menu consists of wide selection from Thai to Western food ( from a fantastic gourmet Tuna tartar to Gnocchi’s, delicious Pizzas and  a wide selection off Thai curries and Thai specialities) The prices may have been a little more than at a restaurant on the beach/road but then you wont get the Layana service which was impeccable!! Where in the world do you get a main course in a 5 star hotel for 5 Euro (served with selection of rolls, bread sticks and an amuse bouche)?? We particular appreciated the pricing, as all taxes, service etc are included in the price, no hidden costs!
My wife treated herself everyday with a different spa treatment, (seaweed wraps etc...) i joined her 3 times for a Thai massage which where probably the most professional massages I ever had, (2 person for Bt1000!!) That was value for money!
Little things like the complimentary wine-tastings with snacks, and the ever so present General Manager Christoph, the F&B manager Florian who even went out of his way to organise my favourite Weiss Beer from Bangkok, the invisible house keeping crew, the free WIFI available allover the resort.. and and I could go on... made our stay so much more special!
We left very sad , but we will be back soon and will tell everybody who wants to hear it about the No1 place in Thailand!

We had a great stay at the Layana resort even though it was low season and it was very windy and the beach not pleasant at all. I have children but I have to say that it was wonderful to stay and complete relax at a resort that is child free - we were certainly able to have a bit of quiet time which is what we wanted after travelling for 5 weeks around Europe. The staff here is just great, extremely efficient and very friendly without being over the top. Nothing was too much trouble for anyone. Free wifi was also very much appreciated after the limited availability we had been experiencing in Europe and even in Bangkok. The food was great and it was with difficulty that we ate elsewhere during our 3 night stay. I had a few treatments at the spa and they were fantastic. The Layana is really a wonderful place for a relaxing holiday and I would return wihtout any problems.

The only negative thing I have to say about this hotel is that the bed was far too hard and I had a stiff back every morning - it would be great if the mattresses could be changed.

We recently returned from an eight-night stay and cannot recommend Layana Resort more highly, particularly to Australian couples wishing to escape the winter chill! Our visit was during the Low Season, resulting in a very affordable and relaxing beachside holiday. The immaculate room, friendly staff, relaxing massages, impressive breakfast buffets, pristine beach, etc. all contributed to a fantastic holiday. The new owners appear keen to maintain the high standards of this resort. We look forward to visiting Layana Resort again!

We arrived at the Layana slightly unsure of what to expect. The last time we were there was less than a year ago, and it was then under the ownership of the very special Bob and Maggie who had made the Layana the special place it is.
There was again someone to great us on arrival, but it wasn't the owner/ general manager of the hotel as before. The experience of being greeted by the main man does make you feel special, and Bob was brilliant at making every single guest feel that way. Bob would tell you that nothing would be a problem, and just go and see him if you ever had any. It could not have been more different with the new general manager who walked around as if he was the only one with the problem.
Besides that slight irritation, the vast majority of the staff are the same as when Bob and Maggie where there and they are absolutely brilliant. What makes the Layana so special is the experience created by the people who work there. If the new managers ignore this and think that they know how to run a hotel better than the multi-award winning Bob and Maggie did they may end up with a problem. If they change it any more than they already have then it will cease to be the Layana as the previous quests know it. The hotel being so special ensured quest returned year after year. If these new managers think they can operate it like the other hotels they own in Bangkok and Phuket then it will turn into them and become just 'an ordinary' hotel.
On the plus side the new owners are starting a complete refurbishment program which some areas of the hotel are starting to need.
When speaking to other quests who were there for the first time they still all loved it, with the most important factor being the service everytime. The Layana is still a quality hotel but it just isn't as special as it was before.

We stayed here in May 2011, during what was described as 'rainy season'. The rooms were half price and we got a free night thrown in as well!

Five star luxury all the way, couldn't find a fault in anything.

Oh...check out the 'happy hour' cocktails whilst watching the best sunsets you will ever see!

By the way it rained once...for 15 minutes...if that's 'rainy season' I like 'rainy season'!

Room Tip: Look out for low season deals

My husband and I stayed at Layana for two weeks in May 2011 for our honeymoon. There are plenty of detailed reviews on here so I will just cover the basics. The room was decorated with flowers and complimentary sparkling wine on arrival - a lovely touch. The room was a good size and very light and airy. The bathroom was spotless. I was provided with a padded coat hanger for my silk nightwear - it was just there one day, I hadn't asked for it!! Service is impeccable, you don't lift a finger but the staff are not over bearing. The grounds were spotless, the beach in front of the hotel kept completely clean. The breakfast selection contained virtually everything you could imagine. There was a good variety on the menu, the quality of the food was excellent and mid priced - not as cheap as restaurants down the road, but half the price of the UK. Drinks were a bit pricey, much more like UK prices but we just made the most of the happy hour!

Overall, a delightful, small and friendly hotel.
