“A perfect honeymoon location!”
Reviewed 6 August 2010

We had high expectations of Layana given all the excellent reviews and unlike other resorts, it really didn’t disappoint!!!

As it was our honeymoon we stayed in a Beach Suite, which had a great view of the sea over looking Koh Phi Phi. The room itself was fabulous - very big, spotlessly clean and highly maintained. The beach suite balcony is the perfect place to relax and admire the beautiful sunsets over a cocktail or two!! Most drinks were half price during sunset hour and there were many different cocktail choices available and could be delivered straight to your room!!

As everyone else has mentioned, the staff are all fantastic, very friendly and can't do enough for you - from the guys around the pool brining you iced water and fruit kebabs, to the maids leaving the lovely floral designs on your bed every evening and the attentiveness of the bar & restaurant staff.

Food in general in the Tides restaurant was fantastic and not too expensive. They had different themes in the restaurant most nights and the choice at breakfast was good too. Unfortunately for us it was low season, so a lot of bars & restaurants along the beach had closed, but a few were open in Saladan still which was just a short taxi ride away.

We would highly recommend the Sundowner cruise run by the hotel. You either get picked up on the beach by the hotels speedboat or taken in a taxi to meet the boat at Saladan pier, depending on roughness of the sea. It’s a lovely relaxing cruise through the mangroves between the two Lanta islands and was hosted by the hotels owners Bob and Margi who were great company. You’re provided with a great selection of canapes and drinks on board and we got to see wild Macaque monkeys and flying fish – it’s a lovely way to start to an evening!!!

Overall the Layana is a fabulous place which we thoroughly recommend to anyone. The owners have obviously put a lot of thought and attention to detail into designing the whole place, ensuring you have a relaxing and enjoyable stay.

We wish we were still there and plan on going back very soon!

I must admit after looking at all the great reviews i wondered if it could truly be that good.Well believe me it surpassed all expectations. We arrived in low season and even though the resort was quiet we were given a lovely welcome and nothing was too much trouble.Dont be put off coming in low seasonn as even though you get small bouts of rain its still hot .
If you could travel the globe and put together all the great touches of each resort and combine it into one you truly get the Layana Resort and Spa
Bob ,the owner of the resort wants commending on the running of this resort as not only does he greet you on arrival he waves you off as well.
Ive always dreamed of going to thailand but was worried about the spicy foods but id no need to worry as Bob introduced us to Claudio the head chef and he made me dishes off the menu without the foods i was allergic to and then came out to see us to make sure it was ok! Big thank you claudio
We have travelled alll over and by far this is the best hotel we have stayed in.A BIG THANK YOU to all the waitresses Sue, Rat,Aom,Rung and Mann at the bar and not forgetting the pool boys Mr b and boy.
Go to this hotel you wont regret it!!!

We have just returned from our 8 days at Layana, the last leg on our 3 week honeymoon and I can only repeat what everyone else has already said...this hotel is exceptionally good. It's privately owned and everything has been designed by the very friendly owners Bob & Margi and you will struggle to find a better hotel than this. We stayed in a Garden Villa which was tastefully decorated and very comfortable, large bathroom and with a super king size bed. we were ven given a Pillow menu with a choice of 5 different type pillows. It gets cleaned twice a day and has fresh towels and bed sheets every day. Like most people we didnt want to eat at the same place every night, we went out on the first night to a local seafood place and while the food was good, it was no-where near as good at the Hotel restaurant called "Tides". The food was first class and if they gave out michelin stars on this small island then they would get a bag full, it really is high quality, well presented food. Every night the chef came round and and asked us for comments after our meal, so we ate there every night. The management are big on customer feedback and work hard to satisfy everybodies needs. if osmething is wrong then they want you tell them, and then they'll fix and make sure it wont happen again for future guests ( thankfully we didn't have cause to complain) When you have 35% of your guests returning every year the figures speak for themselves. Everywhere is kept very very clean. Layana is still only 7 years old, we will defintly go back as it really was an amazing 8 days, we didnt want to leave. We went on 2 boat trips in Layana's own speed boat, had 2 massages in the Spa,we went to a Thai cooking class, early morning cycle ride and I went to 2 Thai boxing lessons with Mon & Nuch ( hard work....but good fun.) You can have the cleanest grounds, biggest rooms and good food but the staff need to be right, and you will not be let down. The 150 strong staff are really friendly, happy to help and make sure their priority is your hapiness...and you cant ask for more than that.

When we contacted our travel agent 12 months ago we said we wanted to go somewere classy, special and one of those " hidden little gems". We certainly got that and would be very very suprised if anyone dis-agreed with me and the hundreds of good reports from former guests.

Make sure you go to Layana....if not you'll regret it.

I found Layana one of the most relaxing hotels I have ever been to. This is largely because the staff are so delightful and the service is excellent, and yet relaxed. Also their attention to detail is amazing, if you show a preference for something, they remember it.
The rooms are modern and very comfortable with quiet air conditioning. The food in the restaurant was excellent and enjoyable, with plenty of Thai and European dishes and a special dish each night. We were certainly not in any danger of having to have the same dish twice!
I shall certainly remember sitting in the bar and restaurant, by the beach, hearing the waves lapping, for a long time.

My husband and I spent 11 nights at Layana in October 2009 and it was the perfect way to spend our honeymoon. Upon arrival, we were taken to our room by golf buggy (even though the room was only about 50 yards from reception) and shown all the facilities. We stayed in a garden pavillion room which was beautiful. The bath was filled and had flowers floating in it which was very pretty. We have been given champagne and ferrero rocher too as we were on our honeymoon which was a lovely touch.

The whole grounds were so easy to navigate round, the pool was never too busy and as there were no children there, it was really peaceful - just the sound of the waves on the shore only 20 yards from the pool! We used the internet facility in the library and the wi-fi facilities in our room too.

We utilised the spa on a couple of occasions for traditional Thai massages and we both felt so relaxed afterwards. We were also given fruit and some kind of cool herbal drink afterwards, which was a nice touch.

The food in the restaurant was very good and we couldn't help but eat there almost every day. We did venture down the beach one lunchtime and ate at a beachfront restaurant which was also quite good, if a little less refined!

The staff were so helpful and always checking that you have everything you want, but manage to do this without seeming like they are hovering around all the time. The cocktail happy "hour" from 5pm to 7pm was a favourite of ours and in recognition of this, we were given a copy of the cocktail recipe book on departure. Another example of the thoughtfulness of the staff and management.

The grounds are kept impeccably neat and tidy and there are always groundsmen working (discretely) to maintain this whether its sprinklers on the grass or cutting back the plants.

We would happily go back there once we have saved up. It is pricey but for a luxury holiday in peace and quiet, and to be waited on hand and foot, its well worth it.

My review is very late but I absolutely HAD to write a review for this resort because it really proved to be #1!!! The rooms were beautiful, like honeymoon villas. I wanted to stay somewhere away from the busy life of Bangkok and somewhere much quieter than Puhket. This was just PERFECT! the food was the BEST we have tried in Thailand. The staff were soo accomodating to the point where they gave my husband a new t-shirt when his got lost on one of the island excursions. We were there over Christmas, and even though there was a mandatory dinner, it was worth every penny! the food and the entertainment was fab! One small thing that wasnt up to the standards of the hotel was the fishing excursion that we booked from the hotel. We tried another island excusrion with them and the difference was astounding. Apart from that, i give them 2 thumbs up!!!!
