“Nice stay”
Reviewed 24 April 2008

Stayed here for 4 nights in April 2008. Was very satisfied with the place. Booked a beach bungalow and it was clean with A/C and king bed. Washroom is a bit dated, but functional.

It should be clear that the beach bungalows are not "on the beach" or "face the beach". They are just the closed bungalows to the beach on the property.

Massages were great, $250 Baht for 1 hour. Restaurant was pretty good too. Pool was very warm and had a lot of sand in it, but from people not showering first I suppose (there are signs to do this).

One annoyance was that the bungalow was listed at $1,000 Baht a night on the website and our reservation, but upon checking out we were told $1,300 a night, so be sure to confirm your rate when you check in.

Lanta Island resort is right in the middle of the first main beach (Khlong Dao Beach) from Ban Saladan (ferry port). We chose it because of the location and price and were not dissapointed in either respect.

Khlong Dao Beach is lined with resorts with most of them having excellent restaurants & bars (with a noticeable lack of nasty neon lights) on the beach front with the accomodation behind. This is ideal for when you want to grab a beer and watch the amazing sunsets.

The beach and resort never seemed to get that busy which was perfect. There always seemed to be enough people around to make it interesting but never too many people to make it feel crowded.

The cost of our bungalow was 500 bht (approx £7) per night. The price did go up in December but we did still receive a good rate compared to the other resorts on the beach. For this we got a very clean and comfortable semi detached bungalow. It was fairly basic but all the furniture was new and of good quality. The bathroom had hot water and was very well maintained. We opted for a fan room. We could have had an air con room which was more expensive but we are not great fans of air con and the fan was more than adequate. You could have your room serviced daily with clean sheets & towels. For the price we paid we didn't have a fridge or kitchen and even though we were there for 7 weeks we really didn't need either.

Our bungalow was pretty close to the pool although there were some that were a lot closer. The pool was fantastic and well maintained. There was always enough sunbeds of which half were in the shade and the rest in the glorious sunshine.

The restaurant & bar were in our opinion one of the best along Klong Dao beach offering fantastic Thai curries and BBQ kebabs & fish amongst many other delights! Some of the tables were right on the sand just yards away from the sea making the evenings very romantic! The staff were all charming and friendly.

The beach was lovely, the sea perfect for swimming but not snorkelling. The grounds were well looked after although I would imagine that if you stayed during/straight after the rainy season it wouldn't be quite so tidy. Fair enough.

Everybody that we spoke to who were staying at the resort were more than happy. I do recognise though that this place isn't for everyone. Some people probably would prefer a 5 star resort but then they would have to pay 5 star prices.

Stayed at Lanta Island Resort for a few days in March 2007. Showed up with no reservation, and was paid 1200/night for a deluxe bungalow II, an air conditioned room, double-sized bed, private bath with hot water (to their credit, that is almost exactly what they charge on the internet, so they were very fair and didn't try to take advantage).

The bungalows are very plain looking, and the first room we stayed in was badly in need of repair - there was a hole in the bathroom door and the shower barely worked. After one night they changed our room, supposedly an upgrade, for no extra charge. This room was the same specifications as the first, but was in good repair. The driveway to the resort looks awful - unkempt grounds, etc, but once you actually get to the resort, the landscaping is quite nice. The pool area is also quite nice.

The staff generally was friendly and cheerful, and seemed to actually enjoy working there.

The beach is absolutely beautiful - very clean and scenic. The tourists seem to be mostly families, although there are plenty of people bar hopping at night too.

Overall, not a bad stay. Having stayed at other beaches in Thailand, the price seems just a tad too high for what you get, but having looked at the neighboring resorts, this seems like fair market value for Koh Lanta.

We are budget travelers, so we were excited to be able to stay in a nice place with a beachside location. We stayed in a garden view bungalow with a fan, which was 700baht, which is under $20 and a great value for high season we thought. The room was very clean and had a nice porch with chairs for reading in the evening. The best thing about this place was the pool. It was the perfect temperature, never very busy, and had some great shaded lounge chairs. The grounds also had a shaded area with chairs right on the beachfront. If you are traveling on a budget, you have a hard time finding a place with a better location, flush toilets and hot water, and a great pool on this island!
