“a decent choice, but unspectacular”
Reviewed 18 March 2010

There were no bungalows left when we arrived but we were offered a choice of rooms in 'the sands' and settled on a third (top floor) Junior Suite in one of the main blocks. The hotel is unusual in that the two blocks at the back of the hotel each have an individual pool separate from the main pool and 'pool entry' ground floor rooms where you step from your balcony right into the water.
These two pools are great pools, big and ideal for swimmers. children have to be supervised. They are quite different from the free form main pool which is at the centre of the hotel grounds, not next to the beach. Our room was perfect, a living area and separate bedroom. It was good quality, well furnished and air conditioned at quite a reasonable price. In a sense we were pleased that we stayed in the main block, the villas were on the main pathway to the beach and a bit dark from the trees and plants for our liking.A warning however. If, however the sound of children playing puts you off then beware , the main block is populated mainly by Swedish families who sit round the pool while the children play together in the pool and the noise can be quite loud.
The hotel restaurant lacks atmosphere and like others, the quality of meals was unremarkable. Most people seem to eat at the beach restaurants anyway.
The reception staff are very helpful, the room was clean, linen and towels changed each day. No problem with this hotel.

It is very centrally situated on Ko Lanta, there is plenty of beach life and the sea is safe for swimming. I would certainly go back to this hotel, but we would find out when the Swedish school holidays are before we go!

Stayed here as part of our honeymoon in Thailand. Everything about this place was brilliant from the room, to the setting, to the service. The resort is very green and lush and pretty. We stayed in one of the rooms with a balcony over looking the beautiful pools. There was a bath anda day bed on the balcony which was lovely for watching the sun set. The room was massive and very clean. The food was also good.
It was very quiet when we were there although it was peak season. There were mainly other couples and a few families. They have dvd's for you to borrow for free if you want to relax in your room. It was very hot and the air con worked brilliantly.
The beach was glorious and there were lots of great places to eat. I would say it is more of a place for couples as there isn't much nightlife if you are young and single.

Came here as a walk-in and got one of the cheaper rooms for £100/night overlooking tranquil pool area.

Very spacious rooms with lovely outdoor balcony areas which made it easy to spend time there, complimented by a good location on nice beach, friendly staff, and generally good value vs (the many) others that i considered and looked around nearby

Only negatives would be that breakfast wasnt the greatest and that the hotel bar and restaurant rarely looked busy/appealing. Also the bedroom itself and the corridors leading to it was perhaps a little bit tired in appearance.

Would definitely consdier returning if i was in this area of Lanta again

Stayed in Deluxe Pool Acces rooms (175$/night). Really nice rooms with direct acces to a great pool.

Most guests used the other pool so it felt really private.

Nice breakfast and fine beach (not as nice as Railey and Phi Phi though)

Not a lot too do at night time. Had a great cooking lesson with Lemeno Grass. Recomended

The Lanta Sand is a lovely resort, that should not be in question. Long Beach is beautiful, within easy access of Saladan and the rest of the island by fun motor bike.

We were return customers and as such they upgraded us to a beach front bungalow, which was lovely. However there was no hot water in the room, which we reported on our second day, only to be told the engineer had gone home and would look at it the next day. He aparently did come, took a cursory glance and approved it as working. It was not. We reported it again that night as we couldn't stand more cold showers - they sent 3 engineers that night who stood in our room for 2 hours and still did not fix it. Their English was quite poor so he was unable to inform us what we could do.

We called reception who did not seem to know how to help us. WE made the suggestion of another room vacant which we could shower in. They agreed. The water was NEVER fixed during our stay - we had to shower in the other room.

Upon checkout they offered NO discount for our inconvenience, which is poor for repeat customers.

It IS a lovely resort, especially if you have children (most couples did) but if you don't (we don't) the pool area is dominated by kids. I wouldn't class it appropriate for a romantic getaway.

  • Liked — Beautiful room, landscaping
  • Disliked — Pool was full of children. All sunbeds reserved early in the morning by tourists. Poor organisation and help by staff. Very loud nightclub next door (Zone Bar) on Thurs night up to 4am - no sleep possible

We stayed in the hotel for three days during a trip around Thailand. For the standard of hotel it is excellent value. We stayed in one of the bungalows which had a beautiful marble and travertine bathroom with a separate outdoor bath - fabulous! The large room had good air con and fridge, huge bed with very chic furniture and artwork and an outdoor lounging area at the front. There are two swimming pools, both very stylishly designed, one more Thai feeling - stone elephants etc- and the other more minimalist - decking, very clean lines etc.

We travelled with our 2 year old and the staff could not have been more helpful re a cot (no charge) milk etc. One of the pools has loads of pool toys and is great for kids, but still peaceful (ie not invaded by hoards of screaming children!) The hotel is set on the beachfront on a nice part of the beach and the gardens around the hotel are immaculate and beautifully lit at night.

We went for a snoop around Layana just up the beach and felt very smug at what a bargain we were getting in comprison!
