Just sheltering under an umbrella by the beach at Rawi Warin on my last day in Thailand. Only three good sunny days in two weeks, mainly rain and overcast.

The hotel is very good. Facilities and rooms are great. Be warned that some of the rooms are really high and the heat saps your energy. There are rooms at growing level but imagine they will be a few hundred pounds more for a week. Buyers beware if you are not fit.

Most of the clients are Northern Europeans and a surprising number of small children. Mainly folk in there 30s & 40s. There was no nightlife as such and people keep to themselves.

Restaurant food is good (menu changed for the better midweek) but not cheap for Koh Lanta. Restaurants on the road strip outside were dodgy but there are some better ones on the beach further down (Koi Thai?).

Koh Llanta is a bit scruffy and I cannot see the benefit of it over somewhere such as Khoa Lak which is more accessible.

Had a good afternoon canoeing in the mangroves seeing the monkeys and a decent dive trip with Blue Planet Divers.

Room Tip: Had room 667 which was high but had a great view. Felt like a mountain goat after a week. Bring your...

We stayed here for 2 nights and it rained heavily the whole time so we were unable to use the pools or beach but they all looked amazing!

We did use the transfer service after arriving by ferry at Saladan pier and it was smooth. He was waiting for us and we had about a 15 minute journey from pier to resort for 400 baht charge. Not too bad.

We got to resort about 1:30pm ish and check in was smooth but we were told that our room would be about half an hour until it was ready. I thought it was a little off that the room was not ready when they knew what time we would be there, having used their transfer service, although we had not paid for an early check in so I let it go. However, the room was not ready until about 2:15 so we were waiting for 45 minutes. During this time we had a look around the restaurants and music/movie room etc and were simply blown away by the place. It all looked amazing with lovely grounds and the staff seemed friendly. So not having the room ready at 2pm was a little wrong but not the end of the world!

They took us up to our room in buggies as the place is quite steep and when we got to the room we thought WOW! It was breathtaking! We had a room high up on the hillside and our balcony overlooked the sea, amazing views even though it was raining! The room was definately 5 star and the bathroom was sensational. We had stayed in 2 other hotels in the last few weeks in Thailand that were also 5 star and this was the best one of all 3!

We spent the day walking around the site, playing table tennis and even a quick bit of tennis when the rain stopped briefly. We used the gym which was not bad.

We had a quick walk around the area and there really isn't much to do outside the resort so it is mainly a place to relax. A nearby shop and a few questionnable restaurants is all you can walk to.

So we ate in the hotel the first night in the restaurant. This is where the second hiccup happened. We both ordered mains and my girlfriends arrived and the waitress said mine would be another few minutes. Well, she had finished her main course before my Salmon dish finally arrived, a good 10/15 minutes later, and when it did arrive there was no mushroom sauce with it. I asked and they apologised and said the chef had forgot it and they would make it now. I had then half finished my meal by the time the sauce arrived!

The food was amazing though but the service let it down.

The next night we had room service and were pleased as it arrived hot and promptly.

Breakfast was excellent both days, great variety. Room service was good, the whole place was clean in the room and the restaurants, and the bed was very good giving me the best 2 night's sleep I had since being in Thailand!

The walk to and from the room was very steep and took a few minutes to walk up the stairs but we did it every time even though we could have called for a buggy to pick us up each time but it really only took 5 minutes to get to the restaurant. Unless you are unfit this walk shouldnt be too much of a problem.

When we checked out we had issues with our transportation arriving which we had booked independently and the young girl on reception really helped us out in calling the company 3 or 4 times and translating to us what was going on and ensuring we got away so this was a nice touch.

The whole place was quiet but the rain probably kept a lot of guests indoors.

So the only 2 issues was the room not being ready on arrival and the food coming at different times, but otherwise a fantastic place and would definately go back hopefully when the sun shines!

Food and drink at the hotel was not that cheap so if you were prepared to brave a nearby restaurant you could save yourself some money!

Room Tip: Higher up gives you a better sea view but lower down is less walking!

We stayed at this hotel as part of a one month trip around Thailand. Loh Kanta is very quiet but that suited us perfectly at Bangkok and a busy few days. It is a beautiful resort perfect for families more than couples wanting anything lively in the evenings. The pool is beautiful five star and all the food is a high four star standard with a range of all thai and western hot and cold food and drinks. The prices for dinner are in line with the resort about £5 for a club sandwich and salad at the beach bar and about £7 a main in the restaurant at night. Yes this is expensive for Thailand but still resonable we felt.

The rooms are big with two double beds in. We got the option to villa upgrade for 1000 baht a night we just didn't feel it was worth the expense we looked into them and this would be worth it for a family. The rooms are the highest in the resort but you can get free golf buggies if you don't want to walk.

We are went to do a elephant ride and see the waterfalls and caves the three things I would advise you do on the island.

Room Tip: Notes above on rooms.

Let's start with the check in: no warm and friendly welcome, but confused and unfriendly staff at the reception! It took us nearly 3 hours after the regular check-in time before we finally could get in our room. Reason therefor was, that they had to clean the room and the owner of the hotel wanted to check every room.. We don't know what they exactly did but it wasn't cleaning the room, cause it was really not super clean and our room (low category) was permanently smelling mouldy. There was no nice view, simply a dark room on the hillside.

Nice garden and pools but very bad light at night and horrible stairs up to the houses at the hillside. That's why they probably try to carry anybody up there by their little cars making a terrible noise.

Pool services stop at 6 pm, you get beach towels only by signature ( and if you don't return them you will be charged for the towels!!! )

Complete breakfast buffet with bad coffee, the rest of the breakfast was fine. What really sucked, was the horrible music choice including every day the same songs, with classic versions of "titanic" and "unbreak my Heart" we felt like 60!

Over all we can't recommend to stay there as the rates are high and it is not worth this large amount of extra money!

Room Tip: Take the villas, not the "deluxe rooms"!

After reading some of the reviews we were a bit unsure about booking this hotel for three nights but after getting a very good price we were glad that we did! We had a Sea View villa which was very spacious and clean. Sea views were not bad but a bit impeded by foliage but it did give a feeling of privacy and we did not feel overlooked by other villas.
As it was a special occasion we spoke to Martin the Head Chef and to the Restaurant Manager who organised a delicious meal for us complete with birthday cake!
Pool area is very nice but can get a bit busy - good service from pool bar. Beach is nice too and for more of a relaxed feel try the Reggae bar on the other side of hotel off beach!! We looked at the Spa but felt it was very over priced so we had a massage on the beach which was great and only about 350 BHT!
Overall it was a great experience and we enjoyed our time there. Staff were very friendly and helpful. We would stay here again and feel that the hotel and staff are working hard to improve standards.

Room Tip: Sea View Villas are very spacious with large balcony area.

I expected better since the price I was paying, but it was rather disappointing. The rooms are beautiful, all though this is a HUGE resort and there are a lot of people. The rooms are quite a hike as well. I had to walk up 4 staircases to get to mine. The staff is okay, not overly helpful and service is disappointing. Susie at the front desk was helpful and I liked her recommendations. There was no real personal touch to the resort and it's crowded. Expect to be poolside with crying children all day long. The biggest disappointment was upon checking out I paid $200 usd for laundry, room service, pool service, restaurant, etc. and the hotel staff didn't even offer to carry my bag or hail me a tuk-tuk. I had to walk out to the road with all of my stuff. There are much better resorts on the island.
