The third star is only because the wonderful employees (well, mostly).
Mr. Chiraphat, I would like to ask you to:
Try to sit at the restaurant chairs and have a comfortable dinner! (Pillows?)
Try to sunbathe or just simply spend a few morning hours on the beach sitting in those worn, broken, cheap plastic chairs, and enjoy your time without wiggling constantly in the hope to find a comfortable spot.
Spend a night in one of the bed with the bumpy, rock hard pillow under your head, and read a few pages of you book or magazine with the candle light quality lightbulb provided.
Try to look at your disposal basket in the bathroom with full of used toilet paper, because maybe a lid would be too expensive and can’t be afforded by the resort.
Try to walk back to your bungalow at night in the 1/2 dark walkway, because the burned out bulbs never replaced.
Try to charge your electronics while you out of your bungalow and maybe you’ll realize, that all electricity is out when your key is out of its place. Well, the fridge is working, so you have a choice to unplug that and use it for charging other equipment.
Oh, almost forgot! You will not need sandpaper, you will receive an almost new towel for that purpose. And yes, it’s very appetizing to see the extremely old towels used in the restaurant to whipe the tables. Even than it would not hurt to whipe the plastic "napkin" holders occasionally from all the attached grease, dirt....with the towel shreds.
I’m not complaining about breakfast. It’s edible, there are always fresh fruit which balances out of the rest. On the other hand lunch and dinner is very-very marginal to say it nicely. In my experience Thai food is excellent, and not too difficult to make, just as "European" food like a simple burger is great when you make it right. And yes, a previously frozen, prefried fries can be edible when you not make it to be an empty inside, rock hard stick. Maybe you should send your cook for a burger/fries sample to the Fat Monkey restaurant. Neither of the last two need a special chef or a rocket scientist.
I know, that Southern Lanta is well rented out, overload of returning customers but it should not mean to relax and let things run down, especially when correcting small things would not require super investment.

Room tip: Not too many choices, I think the regular garden view rooms are the quietest, the rest is full of children.

Pros: Resort is in an excellent location on a lovely part of the beach, with great restaurants either side (recommend the Fat Monkey). Staff were friendly enough but not overly helpful with some requests. Air con in bungalow worked fabulously, as did the wifi. Restaurant was excellent - both in food and service. Enjoyed the entertainment - shame it wasn't on every night during the Christmas season. Breakfast was okay if you're a meat eater - uninspiring if vegetarian.
Cons: Bungalow was disappointing - presents nicely enough, but with no kettle (no possibility of one on request even though I noticed the newer style bungalows came with one), no hairdryer, no shower gel or shampoo - just empty unmarked bottles that I had to ask to be filled. Worst of all - no powerpoints! Only one triple power-point in the entire bungalow - I had to unplug the TV to use for phone charging. TV was old style (not that I used it) - surely these could be updated.
Daily cleaning was not very thorough - a dirty glass from my 'welcome' drink on arrival was still there 5 days later on check out.
Pool was constantly crowded with kids - yes, it was holiday time but size of pools are inadequate for this size resort.
Overall my stay was pleasant but the resort could equip the older style bungalows better.

Thank you for your extensive reviews, these will surely help us improve! Please, I would love to rectify some of the issues here.

We understand Christmas season is all about festive and joy, but sometimes a little bit too much might become mundane. Thats why we select certain days for a fabulous live music at our beach bar. Nevertheless, we welcome your recommendation and will work to arrange a more varied entertainments for our diners.

The breakfast buffet was carefully designed to suit general dietary needs. We can, ofcourse, arrange a vegetarian meal upon request. Thats just some way to make sure that our guests are receiving what they really want.

On the issues on bungalows, we understand that certain bungalows may be a little rundown through time. However, each year we tried putting in new fittings and carried out some refurbishments to the bungalows. Its a shame we didn’t meet your expectation but will certainly take those into account when we do it again.

I would like to inform you that certain bungalow types have limited amenities available. I do regret that some of these items are subjected to an extra surcharge upon request.

We will definitely look into the issue with the cleaning. At Southern Lanta Resort we take hygiene and guests’ comfort very seriously. We apologised for any inconvenience caused.

We appreciate your feedback and hoped to welcome you again to a better Southern Lanta Resort that made possible because of your reviews!

We just returned from our 5th trip to Thailand and our 4th trip to Koh Lanta. This Island is great and in particular Klong Dao beach where the Southern Lanta Resort is located. The northern most beach on the island, close to Saladan Village. It's really hard to make an educated choice from just looking at photos. This beach is the best one on the island (by far!) and the location of this hotel on this beach is PERFECT! The beach area in front of the hotel is wonderful! No rocks and swimmable (even at low tide). The hotel restaurant is very good as are others along the beach (try Easy Bar for food and the Indian Bar for sunset cocktails next door) Really good restaurants street side too with walking distance (try The Sisters, the Kitchen, the Fat Monkey and the German Bakery for Breakfast or lunch for a change from Thai food. Two Scoops for ice cream). And the best little massage parlour is the "Siam" right next to the Indian bar.

The hotel itself is clean, the rooms are big. The buffet breakfast included with the room is large. It doesn't vary much but everything is good and plentiful. The common areas are kept very clean, the pool area is pretty. The shaded beachfront lounge area is very convenient. And the full time gardening staff keeps the grounds looking very well cared for.

There are many Swedish families and older couples who stay here. Many for 2-4 months each winter. They dress for breakfast (no naked chest or bikinis in view) and they actually talk to each other during their meal (no electronics in sight) which was all quite refreshing to see. Also, their children are very well mannered. Little 3 year old Sven doesn't run the show, he knows his place in the pecking order and if he becomes upset he gets the attention he needs to remedy the situation instead of having a cell phone chucked at him or his parents trying to "reason" with him for 45 minutes. It was all very interesting to observe.

So if you're thinking about Thailand and an Island in the area, Koh Lanta is the best and chances are good that you'll be very happy with your stay in this hotel!

Was here on wedding trip with family. The resort was good with mostly families and seniors. Good pool area for children and nice bungalows with ac. Breakfast was good and there is a nice beach bar restaurant. Would go here again if I have small children but for a couple I wouldn't recommend it as it is a bit noisy with all the little kids running around. Staff is very friendly and good English. Many alternatives for trips etc.
