Lanta Pavilion Resort
Ranked #71 of 85 Hotels in Ko Lanta
Reviewed 15 February 2011

This Resort was booked for us by the Travel agent on Krabi. When we got to the Resort, it looked nice. Bungalows with tables and chairs outside.
We got the keys to our room, and the electricity wouldn't work. So we got that fixed. Then I needed a shower, but the hot water wouldn't work. They moved us to another room.
The room was a bit grungry, with a bit of mould and things growing.
We ate lunch in the open air Restaurant, the food wasn't bad. The staff were very friendly and happy to have a chat.
They've got some lounges and chairs on the beach for their visitors to lay about on. The bar on the beach is pretty cool.
I didn't use the pool so I can't comment on that.
Internet was expensive.
Only stayed for the one night, as we decided it wasn't really what we were after which was more of a beach bungalow sort of thing.
They had a massive party on the Saturday night which went until until about 3 or 4 am. Not my thing, might be yours if you're into house trance.
Probably wouldn't recommend it, but it has potential if they put a bit more care into the details. There's plenty of other places on Lanta that are of a higher quality. From memory we paid over THB1,000 for the night which was quite expensive for what it was.

Regarding the massive party, we don't have parties here, although sometimes there are parties down the beach. I have been instrumental in influencing all of the resorts on this beach to keep the noise down as we have a reputation as being a quite destination, and it is normally quite quiet now. About the problem with the electricity and water, I recall this problem and it was sorted in a matter of minutes. I assume that the problem with hot water was related. In any event, the guest was moved to a new room immediately. Regarding things growing in the room, I have inspected all rooms and found nothing "growing". We are trying to maintain a high quality of service here since I started managing . There are comment forms available in our restaurant, and the majority of comments that I get are positive. As for there being plenty of places that are better value, I'd like to know where. This year I have created many discounts which make us cheaper than many resorts of lower quality.

THE ROOM:
Clearly above average room prices during peak seasons, sanitary installations party broken, jammed toilet, cockroaches in the bathroom, old and cheep furnishing that looks to me like bulk rubbish, dirty bedding, inadequate locking of doors and windows, dusty fan

BOTTOM LINE: Very cheap and shabby facilities which keep unmaintained during your stay

THE STAFF:
Very unfriendly, sassy and uncooperative muslim staff smoking marijuna all day, room cleaning only when the staff is forced to do so (if you directly complain and menace with actions)

THE RESTAURANT:
Very very high priced seafood bbq at the beach (compared to prices in Bangkok or other resorts/restaurants at Koh Lanta), miserable and awfully slow restaurant service, overpriced food which is also not yummy at all

THE SWIMMING POOL:
Small pool, but clean and nice for cooling-down

THE GARDEN:
Very pretty and well maintained

THE BEACH:
Nice clean beach but with a lot of rocks in the water during low tide, swimming during high tide risky due to the many large rocks in the water, beach not that crowded, even during sunset, but at night a lot of drunken tourists are having a walk there (pissing everywhere), very loud music emitted from the restaurant bar / pub area so it's not so nice sitting at the beach in front of the restaurant / bar if you only want to look at the sea shore and the ocean / Ko Phi Phi / ships at night...

THE OTHER:
The lazy Thai muslim staff drives with stinking and loud two-stroke motorcycles from the main road to the restaurant area during early morning hours, during daytime and at night (also late), i.e., they are driving along the walkway beside the huts / bungalows so if you have a light sleep...

THE SURROUNDINGS (ONLY +'s HERE!):
If you walk the main road approx. 150m to the south, you'll find a 7/11 shop and if you walk the main road to the north (approx. 100m), there are some good and cheap muslim street kitchens / little restaurants. Right opposite the Lanta Pavilion Resort, there is a very friendly and budget muslim restaurant that's very good for having breakfast

OVERALL BOTTOM LINE:
Really keep away from this resort and stay elsewhere (but try the +'s) !!!

While the resort itself is quite nice, the staff and food at this place were an absolute catastrophe.

We had lunch with five people on our first day. Everyone had a different dish and the only one that was close to being average was the baked potato. All the others were very very disappointing. The breakfast that we had paid 300 Baht for when booking was a limited choice of eggs. They had even run out of juice for two days in a row.

We had organized a pickup from the pier but had to ring the resort when no one showed up. At first they told us that we had been picked up already - quite a statement to make when we were standing at the pier waiting for them to arrive.

Our biggest disappointment with the staff came on our last morning. We had booked a ferry ticket (through the resort) and we had to leave at 7.30am. The restaurant was supposed to open at 7am but by 7.15am no staff had showed up even though there were a number of guests waiting. We had to ask reception to send someone down to open the restaurant so we could have breakfast. By this stage there was no time left to eat breakfast though so we ordered some food to takeaway, which we had to eat on the way to the ferry. We also had to make our own coffee while the waiter stood there and watched us. We tried to speak to the manager to voice our complaint at the service but the staff said that the manager could not be reached. In addition the staff could not have cared less about the poor service.

I would strongly recommend to avoid this place as there are many better options on Koh Lanta.

(This review may sound like a big whinge but we have been traveling for over four months and this place had by far the worst service despite being one of the most expensive places we stayed at)

we stayed at this resort in Nov 2009 after finding it on the net and spending a day riding around Lanta on a bike checking out hotls.

It is true that many of the rooms are old and not really that pleasant but the rooms along the pathway from the main reception are large and tidy and have tv, fridge, a/c if you pay extra and or a fan.

The gardens are pretty and the pool altho not large was clean and inviting. It never got too crowded and if it di you can go and sit on the beach. The beach is lovely but the sea at this point of Lanta is very rocky and by 2pm it is hard to get we in the ocean around the ugly brown rocks. This beig said, its picturesque and on a clear day you can se Koh Phi Phi quite clearly. The restaurant is very romantic in the evening and you can dine at your table in the sand and watch the twinkling lights from other resorts. the staff are friendly BUT considerably lazy and it took quite a few attempts to get meal orders correct as their English language is far from up to scratch, but the meals were cooked well and were good portions. Breakfast was not included and that was a bit hard as there are not a huge amount of eateries out on the road. you can order from the restaurant but breakfast and boliing water were not there forte. The bar has a Happy Hour each afternoon til early evening and you can wet your feet in the cool ocean as you sip a pretty tasty cocktail or swig a refreshing beer.

Down points to this resort were the cleaning of the rooms. I do not think they had heard of bleach and I don't think they took too much pride in their work as the same hairs around the plughole that were there 2 days before remained until we left 10 days later. The bed was always freshly made though and there were always clean towels and new soap and toilet paper. The door to our room was left unlocked aftert he maids had been in repeatedly and we told the reception every day but still this occurred and so we would have to make a short walk back each time they had been in and cleaned to lock up. The other unpositive thing was that while we were in residence at the Pavillion two seperate couples were robbed during the night. No one could say how this happened or whom was responsible and lets face it we should all be very wary of where we leave our belongings when we are travelling because there are thiefs everywhere but there was promise of security and I am not sure if it eventuated. I hear that the problem has now been solved and the windows do have locks as does the door but people have ways and means of geting into places so the only possible answer is for 24 hour security at this resort to make people feel safe and comfortable.Theydo have safety boxes at receptoon but they are not that sturdy and reception is not manned 24hrs.

Lastly but not in the least there is a great hawaiin guy who lives at the pavillion and helps in the restaurant in the evening. he is good with a story and also to help if you need an English speaking person and we became friends on our short visit.

It needs a few things looked at and rectified but if you want a real island feling where it is quiet and even on the beach the bars keep the noise down after 10pm I would recommend this place. Just make sure you hang on to you real valuables and it will be a good experience I am sure.

Our bungalows have been renovated and we are under new management, with mostly new staff. We are sensitive to previous reviews and strive to maintain a high standard of service. Some of our reviews are accurate and we have addressed the problems, but some were written by a former, disgruntled employee. In any event, we have had no complaints since the change in management.

After being double booked at another Lanta hotel, we were elated to secure accommodation at Lanta Pavilion between Christmas and New Years 2009/2010. Other reviews are true, Pavilion is located on Klong Khong Beach, which, like many of Lanta's beaches, is considerably rocky (particularly on low tide). This considered, the large pool and beach bar cocktails during the beautiful sunsets over the water made up for this.

There are two key different types of accommodation at Pavilion; 1) numerous 'stand alone' bungalows which are scattered throughout the property closest to the beach; and 2) twin rows of newer, rooms which follow the path from the main road towards the older accommodation.

All rooms seem to have air conditioning, but the newer rooms are far more superior than the older ones which, although humble, have fairly ordinary bathrooms and generally looked tired.

Note that, no matter what the web site portrays, NO accommodation at Pavilion has views of the water. This said, there seems to be very little accommodation in Lanta that does. This is particularly the case at the main beaches as the beachfront is often utilised by restaurants and bars.

Each room has a small front deck area with seating and the surrounding gardens are well maintained.

Pavilion has a large pool located adjacent to the restaurant and massage deck. The bar is run by a young guy called 'Chang' who is relaxed but eager to please - cold beer and good cocktails. Each night the restaurant runs a fresh seafood bbq which is cheap and amazing.

Breakfasts (al a carte) were fairly basic but serves were generous.

Prices were fairly standard, but were significantly high during the peak season (when we stayed).

Unfortunately, like most hotels in Thailand, errors were made in the booking process which resulted in some room shuffling during our stay. I highly recommend the payment of a deposit prior to arrival to ensure your accommodation is secured.

The presence of a live-in European manager played a significant role in the maintenance of customer service standards that would be expected of the price paid.

Overall, Pavilion is a humble and quite acceptable place to stay. Staff are generally friendly and helpful and they do the best with the amenities they're working with. The location is fine and the pool sunsets and surrounding restaurants and bars make up for the presence of rocks in the sea during low tide.
