My wife, friends and I stayed here for 3 weeks after much research and weren't disappointed. All the staff were friendly and did their best to make our stay enjoyable. The beach and sea here is beautiful though on certain days there were issues with the sun loungers, this was in the main due to inconsiderate guests reserving beds both in the shade and not. Rooms are clean and well air-conditioned. Bar prices were comparable to outside restaurants and when we did eat and drink here the food was very good. My one concern is that because the hotel permits people not staying here to wander through and use the bar it is open to abuse (one day we heard a couple not staying use a room number to use the sun beds and our friends had some food charged to them which had probably been ordered by non guests). All in all would definitely return and recommend to anyone looking to visit Koh Lanta.

The only sound we hear here on our little terrace in the evening's beautiful sunset, the big gecko - starting his singing .. dacka, dacka, dacka - gecko - we are here, enjoying the tranquility of the beautiful garden, enjoying being back, enjoy the atmosphere, what great plants have been since last year .. looking into each others eyes - it's good here :-) Where are we happy to see how well taken care of surroundings. We live well here, in the fine bungalows, which are always clean and tidy, good food, delicious drinks, happy staff who sings and whistles while working cared - it's a good experience every time.

Now it's time for a drink at the bar - it can be enjoyed while watching the Andaman Sea, with Phi Phi Island on the horizon, the sun sinks down into the sea, amazing colors.

What should we indulge ourselves with tomorrow? A good massage could be the answer, great to be there at the beach, near the ocean, enjoy the breeze - just relax ...
it could also be a cooling swim in the clear water, or a good long walk on the beautiful beach - long beach - with the soft white sand - it's great to see how well clean that is here on the beach.

We've actually been here 5 times over the last 4 years, and the place has become our favourit - it is rare to find so great a place. We have just returned from a fantastic holiday at Castaway - and has already started planning the next trip there.

We say thank you to Darin, Nit and all your great staff - You made our vacation memorable - we meet again next year.

This resort is perfect for the travellers looking for a little downtime after a busy time elsewhere. The bungalows are not spacious but they are clean modern and well air conditioned. The patronage was mixed relaxed and well behaved. The food was fairly priced and good. Love the mixed American / Thai theme. The Thai food is the clear winner though however the American side of things is great for the breakfast as a western breakfast is our preference. There is a small number of shops out side which is always handy. Our only disappointment was the rocky beach with shallow water. However otherwise a complete relaxing delight. The massage is great and fairly priced for in resort facilities.

This a great place if you want to chill out! Very relaxed atmosphere and great bungalows. We stayed in D2 which was an airconditioned bungalow. very clean and well presented. The sunbeds were great and plenty to go round. The only downside was the breakfast staff. They were not really that interested in the customers as they were too busy speaking to each other!
Will go back though.

Room tip: Air conditioned bungalows very good. D1 - 4 are very close to the beach.

Had a fantastic time at the Castaway, this place is a real gem. Beautiful grounds, awesome beach, good bar / restaurant. The room we stayed in was small but very functional and the value of price:quality was exceptional. We highly recommend the Castaway.

Highlites:
Beach, quiet, comfortable room, good staff, dive shop on premises, great restaurants and bars a very short walk away (we liked Rann, the Irish Embassy, and the fine dining at the Layanta (pricey but very well done).

Wish we would have:
Stayed longer - we had to cut our trip to just a 2 day stay - ideally, you want to be here for 3-7 days. Its awesome and easy to get to the Phi Phi's and all the really cool spots around.
Not booked with the hotel our excursion - they dont have a concierge and thru some miscommunication, we missed our boat and had to scramble to get a trip lined up off the property (aside; just down the street there is a travel office called Green Mango Travel, on the left, who was much more knowledgeable and helpful for tours/boat schedules etc, we highly recommend them).

All in all, it was a great value, and with the one exception of missing out on our tour we had a fanstastic time. Highly recommended

We stayed here for five nights on the last leg of our trip, previously visiting Chiang Mai and Siem Reap. We just wanted to chill for five days after climbing Temples in Cambodia. For five thousand baht return the hotel organized a private pick up from Krabi airport. You can do this cheaper by public van but I didn't want any hassle. So after two and a half hrs and two ferries we arrived at Castaway.

Now I will mention before I write this review that we had previously stayed at Mai Siam Resort in Chiang Mai, and The Golden Temple Resort in Siem Reap and had been treated so well by such amazing staff at both these resorts that Lanta Castaway had some pretty big shoes to fill. This is why this resort only received four stars from me.......the staff here didn't even come close. Upon arriving at reception the girl behind the counter didn't even say hello....just asked for our passports. The guy showing us to our room acted like we were a huge inconvenience.....later in the week when I had trouble locking my room door the same gentleman treated me like I was an idiot Not cool. Again, maybe we were so used to being treated so well at the other resorts I was just over sensitive. But this is what I don't get, it doesn't cost you anything as a hotel owner to teach your staff how to treat people. Hey maybe people would tip them more and it would be a win win situation for everyone. The owners of the resort were great.....along with one lovely guy at the beach bar.
Anyway, we enjoyed the room, location, food was ok........but a few steps down the beach at the Moonwalk restaurant the attitude of the staff was night and day so that's where we spent most of our money.
In closing value for money was great, just train the staff in customer service.

Room tip: Detached rooms are quieter
