“Lovely room, deck with amazing view, great value for one of the nicest beaches on Koh Phangan.”
Reviewed 22 December 2013

I didn't plan to write a review as my experience was similar to the other positive reviews here but after the most recent negative review I have to put in my 2 cents...

First of all, this is not a luxury, 5 star hotel. But at $39 USD, it was a great value and perfect for our stay on this lovely and quiet part of Koh Phangan. The room was clean, large and nicely decorated, shower was strong and hot, and AC worked well. Beds were firm as were most of the beds in Thailand hotels, but comfortable enough.

In response to the previous reviewer, the pool looked VERY clean, almost new in fact, so not sure what he could have been seeing. Maybe he needed to look at it from a view closer than his veranda?

And to be clear, there was WIFI, it was just on the (very lovely!) deck only and not in the room. This was the case in all but one if the places we stayed in Thailand.

And we had no issues with the locks. As everywhere in Thailand you want to keep valuables with you or in a safe (cant recall if they had safes here).

And his comment on the toilets is laughable, this was the case throughout Thailand so certainly not the hotels fault!

Also, we had a great experience with the staff. One of the men was very sweet with the children there, and there was a nice woman at the reception area anytime I had a question.

The only true statement in the precious review was that it was steep. This was definitely the case so would not work for someone with limited mobility. But if you like to be up above it all and and have great views, it was perfect. :)

In short, this is a place I would recommend to anyone looking for a lovely midrange spot with great views, food and rooms in one of the nicest parts of Koh Phangan.

I have been a reviewer on Trip Advisor for years now and I must say some hotels need to be closed. This hotel has the chance to be great but fails everywhere.

Check In process ...we request to always see the room before checking in.
Here is where it all goes down. The locks on the rooms are damaged and safety can be an issue. The rooms do not have wifi access so good luck with that. Light curtains ( be prepared to wake up at 5am).

The pool is a MAJOR safety issue, I could see from the terrace it was green and the water blurry , this is a serious problem and very dangerous to children. I could see green mold all over the pool filters it was something out of a swamp.

I warned the staff and they just laughed it off and said ( we clean it daily) hahah...no funny.. any reasonable health inspector would shut it down immediately.

The mattress on the beds are tired ( springs are all out of joy..probably since 1999. Toilets that cannot use toilet paper (huh) please put toilet paper in the bin a sign says..

If you have an issue with steep hills avoid this place also. The TV is from 1996. Dated dated dated and not a care in the world from the staff.

We asked if we could cancel or at least stay one night and cancel the next.

Nope (sorry sir we have your money no refund )

I hope more reviewers expose this place for what it is doing.

If you have guest that have concerns which are valid try to do something rather then laugh at them.

I am in my room now writing this review as the staff find it amusing.

Good luck to anyone staying here.

Personnel is very patient and helpfull. Cootage 16 was fantastic - the most forward one so nothing is blocking a few, it's on top of another cottage so nobody is walking in front of your superb terrace, and it's not the most expensive one either. Spacious bathroom with nice water pressure in the shower, quiet air-con and comfy bed. But the terrace was the best.
Restaurant-bar have a very cosy and relaxing style and the food was good but there were better places considering food.
Great pool just outside the cottage.

Room Tip: cottage 16 if I remember right is great - most forward, and above another one so nothing is blockin...

Went here for dinner to try the Penang curry due to the lonely planet recommendations. Highly recommend going here for dinner if you are in the area. Great view across the bay! Didnt stay at the hotel as stayed somewhere else in Salaad area.

Generally quite surprised by these reviews...Have stayed here twice, and there are different types of room. Some luxury ones and some pretty standard rooms. Think this place is perfect for 2-3 nights in the luxury rooms...The food is fantastic and the sunsets at this beach incredible, but if your active and want to do some exploring its not the easiest location to get round and visit other sides of island and the sea here isn't really for swimming. It really depends on your plan, but if your travelling round a bit and exploring the islands, this is a perfect stop for a few nights in koh phangan and I would highly recommend, plus you're on the quieter side of the island so you can escape the hussle from main town and Haad Rin. perfect for a first stop for chilling out and taking things slowly. Incredible sunsets.

Stayed in sea view bungalow in September, room had views of over grown palm trees and could not see the beach or sea. Not an issue unless you had paid more for the sea view. Staff were friendly and attentive. Charged twice for the tab on checking out I have contacted the hotel for a refund as over £100. No response, so have been left to sort it out with my card company.

Location is excellent.
Food is a bit overpriced.
Rooms are nice
Staff are very good

Room Tip: Don't choose sea view as it obviously doesn't have a view of the sea.

In all fairness I paid very little for my stay.
Pros:
- very friendly staff that will help you book onward travel etc.
- great views over the bay
- free cellulite busting workout every time you need to get to your room. That hill is *steep*, seriously
Cons:
- rooms can be extremely basic; aircon is so loud I couldn't sleep even with earplugs
- the beach is very rocky & shallow - not good for swimming!
