We stayed at Cookies based on the great reviews on TA and found it very mixed. You need to think of this place as a basic hotel/ backpackers type resort which is probably slightly past it's best. The owner was away on business when we stayed there and a very abrupt man seemed to be taking charge. Most of the staff were kind and sweet and tried hard to please. There are some nice restaurants on the beach and Cookies food is quite good. I wondered if Cookies built a good reputation and maybe needs to work a bit harder to keep that reputation ?
The good :
Character..Cookies has a good atmosphere and attracted visitors from the more expensive hotels around the beach
Most of staff are really friendly and helpful
Beautiful location high on the hillside ( no problems getting up the hill to our room ! )
Hammocks
Nice pool
Lovely bar area with great views and cocktails
hire of snorkels/canoes
Good aircon and fridge /DVD player
Rooms cleaned on request

The not good :
One male member of staff is grumpy and unhelpful
Cookies is getting a bit run down .....lots of cracks in the room bathroom
clean but very worn sheets
use of a very basic camp bed in family room
No cushions on sunbeds make them uncomfotable
Some of the wooden sunbeds are broken
No soap in public toilet next to bar
Jacuzzi: Although this is advertised it is rareely
working ..only by special request
Early breakfast agreed in advance not provided

If you are looking for a cheap no frills place to stay with wonderful views this is a good option....basic , clean, (mostly ) friendly. With a small amount of extra care and attention to detail it could move from OK/Mixed to a great place .

We booked the Panorama cottage in April which was really lovely with stunning views of the Haad Salad bay. The bed was large and comfortable with a mosquito net (a must in April), the bathroom was spacious, the balcony had a hammock and there was space to hang your clothes. Cookies pick you up from the pier if you prebook, but be sure to stay by the ferry drop off point as otherwise you will not see the hotel pickup. We got ushered to the taxi rank by people who looked like they worked for the pier and were lied to and told it was the Cookies Hotel transfer. It was not the hotel transfer at all, in fact it was a taxi which we then had to pay for on arrival at the hotel. Very annoying!
The staff at Cookies are really friendly, my only niggle is that the safe in our room was broken and they refused to fix or replace it which I thought was really bad customer service.
The restaurant was disappointing so I would advise going out to eat. The night food market in Thong Sala is great for Thai food such as BBQ seafood, Thai curries, fruit shakes etc.. If you need a break from Thai food there is a great little Pizza Restaurant next to the night market which does some pretty decent pizzas and Italian food. The Haad Salad beach as mentioned in previous reviews is pretty from afar but no good for swimming in April. There are much better beaches such as Haad Thian and some really beautiful little spots along Ao Wok Tum which are quiet and perfect for sunbathing. And if you want deep water and waves – Haad Rin is the place to go.
Cookies is quite far out from any sort of action and as there is so much of the island worth seeing and exploring, a moped is by far and away the fastest and cheapest way to get around. I definitely recommend visiting all the bays but if you like snorkelling you will be disappointed as there is not a great deal to see underwater.
Haadrin is quite far away but easily doable on a moped. We went to the full moon party, partied for a few hours and then drove back. The roads are safe and the journey up to Cookies is all tarmacked (apart from the last bit) so no problems there. Something to note if you want to get a taxi from the Full Moon party back to your resort be prepared for a long wait.
And one last thing, look out for the Rasta bar on the way up to Cookies. The chap that runs it is a really nice guy and the bar is something else.

Moved here from the opposite end of the beach after checking out the amazing view and couldn't pass up on it for a fair price. Stayed in a room on the first floor of the main building. Very minimalist but comfortable. TV, fridge, AC all okay. Bed was average. Sink is outside of washroom with lousy water flow; washroom was a typical wet room with toilet and shower and was just okay as it had cement walls and very little Every room has a hammock to sit in and take in the view as well as a little table with chairs. The staff are the other major selling point of this hotel - they are the friendliest of any hotel I may have ever visited, always singing and eager to get you whatever you need. I had swollen feet and had trouble walking when we arrived on the island, didn't know how I'd get from our first hotel at the other end and down the beach - so they came and picked us up in the morning. Staff also makes sure to know which room you are staying in and who you are which impressed me. Hotel is able to book you a variety of activities such as the Angthong Park trip. Internet access didn't always work so we'd use the access at the resort next door. Restaurant food is great, some of the best Thai we had - all with the best view of the beach there is. Only con of the beach is that if you get bored of the food or sitting on the beach, a taxi ride to the pier or elsewhere is expensive. Definitely would recommend this place, you feel like family when you're there!

My girlfriend and I stayed here for 4 nights in March 2010. The rooms are just okay. The washroom was very dark and not ideal. The view was amazing, it was the selling point for me. Cookies is located on a hill, so we had a great viewpoint for all of Salad Beach from our balcony. The staff here were really friendly and helpful the entire time. If I was on Salad Beach again, this is where I would stay.

my husband and i got married in austria and also wanted to receive buddhist wedding blessings in thailand. we booked cookies resort due to the great feedback at tripadvisor and it was the best choice we have ever made!

we travelled with our parents, brother and sister in law as well as some friends and have not made much plans for the wedding in advance. but once we arrived at cookies the owner aom was so helpful, she advised us to which temple we should go, went with us to buy the food for the monchs and flowers for the temple. they even decorated our car with a bunch of orchids and changed our bungalow into a honeymoon suite with flowers all over the place. it was so romantic and smelled wonderful!

we asked aom to have lunch at the cookies restaurant after the ceremony and again they went through so much efforts and offered us to us a secluded terasse below the restaurant which is originally used for massage so that we have some privacy. they decorated the place with white curtains swining in the wind overlooking the bay of haad salad, prepared a thai buffet and had one of their staff be ready to serve us with drinks.

aom and her staff have truly helped to make this a wonderful and special day!

we not only recommend cookies for a romantic holiday but also for families with kids, the staff is incredibly kind to children.

it was the first time for our parents in asia and due to cookies it was a wonderful experience to them.

we would like to thank aom and her staff for their help and for making this holiday unforgettable to us. we will definitely come back again!

We arrived having chosen Cookies on Salad beach because we liked the beach and the look of the resort and we were not disappointed. Cookies is built into the hills in a sensitive and charming way, unlike some of the larger resorts that have been built on beautiful Salad beach. It has the most spectacular view of the beach, and with the rooms and restaurant overlooking the bay you can enjoy the best views on offer here. We decided to stay another week after just a few days there. The staff were incredibly courteous and helpful, the young lady who works there in particular was genuinely warm, friendly and went out of her way to be helpful, but all of the staff and owner were cheerful and tried their best to please, making the atmosphere warm and comfortable. The rooms (we had two different ones) were really tastefully decorated, all with large balconies and plenty of space. The cottages are a perfect blend of comfortable and rustic, with the hotel rooms still retaining similar style and with eve better views. As the beach is a fairly quiet one it was a nice touch for there to be DVD players in hte rooms with free access to the DVD collection. If you like a pool Cookies' one is good and there is even a large jacuzzi to enjoy. The food in the restaurant fairly tasty and was good value. All in all, sure most people would agree Cookies is great value for money and a pleasure to stay at.
