“Nice, but not for everyone”
Reviewed 14 October 2011

We were so excited to come to coco garden, because of the nice website and the pictures. We booked one beachfront A/C. We knew, that the coco garden is basic, but the bathroom was dirty and the shower did not a very well job. The beach was a disaster. It could be cleaned and you can not really swim in the water. The Hotel was full with Party-People and wasn´t really chilly and relaxing. One very good thing: The restaurant was really good and had a variety of tasty food! We changed the hotel. For a few bugs more, we got a really nice hotel at the west coast.

Final conclusion: If you belong to the partycroud and you want to have a basic "stranded at the beach"-feeling, than you are right at coco garden. If you want relaxing, with a bit luxury please book another accomodation (at the west coast).

Room Tip: When you want to book, then Beachfront A/C. Some in the garden don´t even have a shower (i heard fro...

Been staying with Adey and Lee for a few years, now, and thought they deserved a review.

Great accomodation, spotlessly clean, and a fantastic setup.

Adrian, Lee and their loyal team never fail to make your stay warm and welcoming.

Lek the Barman is a whizz with a shaker and the people you will meet sat around the beach bar will always be friendly.

The food is great value and excellent qualioty at the price.

Join the CoCo Monkeys for a while whilst you are on KPG; you will not be disappointed.... until it's time to leave!

Go Monkeys!

Room Tip: The new Sea View Bungalows have a picvture frame view from the balcony / hammock. Try number 6!

I've been to this place about 4 times since 2003 and seen it go through a few owners. The current staff - Adrian (I think) and the crew - have really brought this place back to life.

As mentioned, the beach is not great for swimming but the coconut garden, restaurant and bar are great. It's a great place to chill and Had Rin is only a quick songthaew or motorbike trip away if you want to party. A nice fan bungalow is usually about 500 baht.

It's the service and staff which makes this place really special. Quirky little beach huts right next to the beach. The sea isn't great for swimming, but the view is fantastic on to Koh Samui and they will do everything to make your trip amazing. When we got pissed and overslept our 7am ferry/bus to Bangkok, we woke up at midday to find AD had already booked us onto them next one at no extra cost. Genius!

Well, getting to this accommodaton was eventful - mainly because we were royally ripped off at paying 100baht EACH for a share taxi which had about nine people in it - and our resort was literally down the road. The resort was near a road with shops, atm and of course a 7Eleven. Anyway, got there and it was all sandy with huts and palm trees and to be honest very cute looking in a secret garden kind of way. We had reserved a beach bungalow for the next three days, but a regular hut for the first night. The regular hut had air con like the beach bungalow, however was a little bit shed-on-stilts and the noise from outside carried through pretty well which meant getting sleep on that night was a tad difficult (although this was also down to the fact that it was the Half Moon party not far from where we were). The bathroom was a little dingy looking and the whole place was a little dark.
The beach bungalow could not have been more different, quite literally a miniature house it was insanely clean with sliding french doors and double paned glass window with lovely blinds and curtains that blocked out the light (the french doors were also tinted so you could happily get dressed and undressed with the curtains open!). Nice little wooden decking and bamboo furniture outside to sit on, hammock, lovely big bed. And if that isn't nice enough it was quite literally on the sea.
The reception area/restaraunt and bar on the beach were all very attractively made from wood, giving it a very survivor-come-castaway-come-paradise look. Food was delicious everything from a full English to pad thai, staff were unbelievably gorgeous in manner, including the absolutely adorable little resident bubba who mosied around when awake and snoozed in the hammock when he was tired of being cute and lapping up the attention of everyone. Wifi was available in the restaraunt which was a bit awkward as you kind of want the netbook to stay hidden, however the safe was in reception which was a little bit of a comfort. The beach bar stayed open as late as you did, and was very relaxing with low down tables and lounge cushions in place of chairs. The whole atmosphere was very relaxing and bohemian, and elegantly effortless, right down to the cutaway plastic bottles filled with sand and a tealightto set the mood on the beach. Place is run by two English men who are always around as a pair or individually, with lots of Thai girls as staff who equally speak very good English and will happily book you excursions/taxis/ferries when you leave etc. Although we didn't go to the Half Moon party, those that did were given a lift there by the resident Coco Garden truck.

Room Tip: Pay the extra 100THB for a beachfront bungalow, so much nicer

My overall rating reflects the lodging itself, not the beach.

We stayed for four days over half moon party. We wanted something that was convenient to hmp and within walking distance to town. Coco Garden itself was great. We stayed in an a/c bungalow, which are all beachfront. A/C is good, room is big, and the en suite is large with hot water. Just be aware that there is no separation between the shower and toilet/sink, but it wasn't a problem for us.
The hotel is very safe and the staff is great. One of the owners seemed to be onsite at any given time, and they helped us book a tour and grab a ride on the hotel truck. The restaurant is fantastic - we had both Thai food and the CoCo burger..and lots of Changs. They let us run a room tab and settle at check-out which really helped us not have to worry about carrying money while in the lounge area or on the beach.

So about the beach...
It was the only disappointing aspect of our stay here. The tide does have great influence, but it never seemed to come in, so you could go out for what seemed forever before even hitting knee deep water. Not great when you just want a swim. And the beach itself is pure coral. You really see the difference if you make it over to Haad Rin, which is a stunning while powder, but the downside is all of the people in the area. I did notice some guests using the pool at the hotel next door, so I believe there's a daily use fee.

On a side note: rent a motorcycle!! It's the best way to explore the island and the driving on Koh Phangan is very mellow as compared to other places in SE Asia. Lee at CoCo recommended the bike shop "Kate" by the harbor and I had a great experience with them.

Room Tip: Bungalow #1 is nice..beachfront.

Excellent location, the staff makes you feel right at home. I would come back in a heart beat. The weather wasn't the best, but made the most of it.

Room Tip: Rooms are being updated so I think any room will work.
