Stayed at Haad Tian for 2 nights with 3 other couples in Sept 2013. We had a beach bungalow and loved the location of these and the fact that you were right on the beach. Other couple had a pool villa and they were very nice aswell. We ate at the restaurant for dinner one night and it was a bit expensive but the convenience of not going into town was worth it. We also ate at the pool bar for lunch and that was nice. Happy hour was good value. The pool was nice but only went for a quick dip to take a photo in there.
I agree with other reviewers that it is abit far out of town and is very expensive to go in and out of everyday. They do offer a courtesy bus but the times never seem to fit in with our schedule. 200Bt per person one way for a 10 min ride is a rip off!! You have to hire scooters if staying here or rely on the bus...
Overall, enjoyed our stay at Haad Tien.

Room Tip: Beach bungalow are nice

We stayed in Haad Tian for three nights and in hindsight feel that we overpaid. The bungalows are nicely located on the beach and there is a pool, which is nice, but the resort is far away from everything. Taking a taxi into town will cost you 200 baht and if you are not renting scooters or a car, you are a bit stuck. The food was not great and quite expensive, but we loved the staff. Overall it was too expensive for what we got.

These bungalows are set right on the beach with beautiful views. Hammocks swinging and great pool area. The family are fantastic and cater to your every need. They even painted us up for the Half Moon Party (very professional and free of charge). The food is excellent. We eat there for all our meals. The resort is 25mins from Thong Sala.
We stayed in a superior bungalow and was worth the extra money, even as backpackers.
Overall a excellent resort which gave us a slice of paradise on our backpacking holiday! Would recommend to all and definitely return!

We spent 6 nights at Haad tian in July. The resort is so relaxing and beautiful but really it is the family that own and run it that make it great. We have so many wonderful memories of our trip and we will return for sure. (A lot of people have talked about the road to the resort-you must take care but if you have any experience on a bike it's not a big deal. The resort also runs a taxi service.) Our bungalow was simple but clean and comfortable....maybe 10 metres from the ocean with a hammock on the veranda. The kitchen turns out really good food...be it thai or western. If you want 5 stars maybe go elsewhere...because that is not what they are doing here. What they are doing is making their guests feel very special in a beautiful setting. Ill be back. We stayed 3 nights in an air con bungalow and it was just lovely. The bungalow was small and basic but clean and cheap so we can't complain. The resort is located down a scary path that is impossible to navigate at night so only travel by taxi if you wish to go out at night and there are mopeds to rent if you want explore during the day. But once you're at the resort it's like a little slice of heaven, the pool is lovely and looks out onto a private beach. The bar and restaurant at the pool always have a chilled out atmosphere and great food. The staff even let us organise a BBQ one night, the chef marinated a LOT of meat for us and provided a BBQ, almost everyone at the resort joined in and it was a great night! Haad tian is located quite far away from the madness of Haad Rin but it's not too expensive to get a taxi to the party scene and frankly we enjoyed staying in the resort for a night drinking their brilliant cocktails and eating the tasty BBQ food!

We chose this hotel as my partner stayed here 5 years ago and thought it was exceptional for its price. However this time round we both left a bit disappointed.

The good:
Location: incredible views from the resort. Overlooking the national marine park and every night a beautiful sunset in a very quiet part of the island and amazing clear starry skies. However the road leading to the resort is treacherous. You must be well experienced riding a ped to be able to pop to the nearest shop, restaurants and bars as the resort is remote. Be carful! Road is a very steep dirt track with large pot holes.
Free decent wifi around bar area.

Resort
Resort itself is very well kept with a friendly family owned atmosphere who are happy to help.
It has its own private beach though it's mainly a pebble/shell beach, great for snorkelling but not so good if you just want to cool off.
Restaurant is very good, well priced.

The bad:
Room type: fan bungalow type A, beach hut. Booked in advance 5 nights.
I have stayed in a few beach huts but that's by far has to be the worst.
Gaps in the flooring as lino was missing over the majority of it.
Thick mosquito net was provided but blocked the fan from allowing any air into the bed
The bed was hard and tiny for two people with ants nest crawling between bed and windows
The bathroom had an overwhelming smell of chemicals, never smelt anything as strong before. Made us feel ill. Similar to ammonia.
This was our experience of the budget bungalow room, but I do know they have bigger and better accommodation available for people with a bigger budget.

The pool:
Well designed and looks good, but massive maintenance issues with the cleanliness, it was absolutely filthy. Couldn't see the bottom of the pool. This was due to the filters not being on, or one being on very briefly. We stayed in march so not sure if they just didn't bother as its not peak season.

Overall our room and dirty pool ruined the experience for us. I'm sure if we were to pay more money we would have enjoyed our time here more, however we were on a budget and there is a significant difference in cost if we wanted to upgrade.

Just something to take note, a couple of the reviews below are not for this hotel but for a diving resort located on Koh Tao.

Room Tip: Do not stay in a fan bungalow here!

This resort is a hidden gem on Koh Pha-Ngan, it's location is in the northwest of the island between Haad Yao and Haad Salad (two very popular beaches for snorkelling, diving and soaking up the more peaceful side of this amazingly diverse island) it's location is somewhat more remote than others meaning there is very little thoroughfare tourism here, leaving it untouched and unspoilt. The coral reef here is teeming with fish and wonderful aquatic colour. The resort provides more services than most such as a daily shuttle to Thongsala and it's very own bike hire service. The staff here are very friendly and helpful, we found they were prepared to go the extra mile to help us get the most from our stay offering us local advise and tips. The food is very good and they have a excellent range of bungalows from basic to luxury. All in all, I would highly recommend a visit to this relaxing resort as Koh Pha-Ngan has a tendency to run your batteries out if you are staying any significant length of time! Enjoy.

Room Tip: Just ask, they will have time for you and help you choose the right room!
