See Through Resort Haad Yao

We stayed at See Through Resort for 4 days. It seems, the resort in run by a lot of young guys and no one is at charge. When we got the room there was no towels, no soap and no shapoo. After several request (four) we got the towels after 24 ours. Theres no coffemakingkit, probably also a mistake. The aircondition is very week, took 2 ours before room is cooled down. Theres only cleening every 2. day and you have to ask for it. The pool is very long, always in shadow, and so pretty cold. Theres only 3 sunbeds at the one end. The room itself was nice with good view to the water.
Breakfastmenu was ok the first day, but the other days you had to order from the card because lack of guest. It was total confusion when you placed the order to one of the young boys serving with missing juice, cornflakes and so on.
Beach and surroundings are very good though. Good snorkling and lots of other restaurents. I would go for another place on the beach, lots to choose from..

My wife and I stayed here on our last night in Ko Phangan before taking the ferry to Surat Thani. We were back packing and this hotel is really more for package tourists but essentially it was quiet, clean, and comfortable, and I could happily recommend it to anybody visiting Haad Yao.

We booked a room with pool view. The view was not really interesting enough to justify the extra money so I would either book a ground floor pool view room (because you can step straight into the pool from your balcony) or not bother at all and just get the most basic room without a view.

The hotel has an extraordinarily long pool (probably about 100m). It is a unusual design but that did not overcome the fact that the water was too clorinated and in need of a good clean to get rid of all of the dead insects floating on the surface.

We ate once at the restaurant. The staff were mostly young lads with a cheeky glint in their eyes. The food was okay, nothing special. My wife left her orange juice because it tasted off and the staff had the good courtesy to notice and refunded us without needing to ask which was unexpected.

Haad Yao itself reminded me of a more relaxed version of a Spanish beach resort, very family oriented, with no real discernible sense of Thai culture. That is an observation rather than a criticism but I mention it for the benefit of other first time backpackers visiting Ko Phangan.

If you’re looking for an inexpensive beach front base on Ko Phangan, you can’t get any closer to the sea and sand than this.
The rooms are fairly basic but have all the essentials including a shower room, wardrobe space and a safe for your valuables.
The food was tasty and great value for money. You can take breakfast at a table on the beach with the water lapping at your toes. In the evenings you can take your pick of fresh fish from the beachfront BBQ. I’d recommend the white snapper.
However, if you want to look the biz without the frizz I recommend you take a hairdryer with you as this is one thing not provided in the room.

Thank god for Trip Advisor. When my boyfriend and I arrived in Koh Phangan from the ferry we had a hotel room already booked for us by an agent in Bangkok. Once we arrived we immediately knew we couldn't stay so we used the lobby's internet and searched Trip Advisor for hotel reviews in the area. There was one that stuck out- it was promised to be a hidden gem of a hotel sitting on a gorgeous strip of secluded beachfront.

At that point we were ready to try anything but it was well worth the gamble. Upon our arrival we were shown a beautiful spacious room on the 2nd floor. Every room has a balcony over the sparkling pool that runs the length of the hotel and if you request a room on the 1st floor your private patio has access to the pool. I was elated to find that the rooms had air conditioning, hot water, a large comfy bed and a flat screen TV. I was told the hotel was built in January of '09 so everything is very contemporary. All this for only $12USD/night. And it gets better...

One of the best parts of this hotel was the beachside restaurant and bar. You can enjoy your meal, beverage or book tableside, in a hammock, or on a mat overlooking the pristine beaches and breathtaking sunsets. The drinks were strong and the food was a wonderful variety of Thai and American cuisine. A local fisherman brings in the fresh catch of the day for their deliciously prepared seafood dishes. We found ourselves spending a majority of our time down there as the food was cheap and we could entertain ourselves with a game of pool, watch a movie or play some gin rummy.

Next door you can rent a motorbike for 24 hours for only $6 USD. Its a great way to explore the island but make sure to wear a helmet as the roads can be close to nonexistent in some areas. There's also a convenient store across the street as well as in the surrounding hotels. If you stroll the beach you'll find you can indulge in a traditional Thai massage for only $6 USD an hour. If you plan on attending the Black or Full Moon Festivals its about a 25 minute drive. We hitched a ride to the party for around 100 baht per person.

All in all The See Through Resort was a major highlight in our trip and we've recommended it to all who are thinking of traveling to the island.

We decided that out of all 7 seven hotels we stayed at in Thailand ranging from 4-5 star this was our favourite. We based this on the fact that the staff are the most friendliest and helpful, everybody is naturally your friend here and from the bar/ restaurant to reception they make you feel very welcomed and eager to help you get the most out of your stay. The hotel is brand new and located in Haad Yao, (about 40 minute drive from Hat Rin ) a small little village more nicer and relaxed than the chaos at Hat Rin with a couple of shops and a beach full of about 6 or 7 bars joined to other hotels. The beach itself is one of the nicer ones in Koh Phanghan and good for snorkelling although be careful of the coral. The pool at the hotel is a bit odd, its the length of the hotel with deep bits and shallow bits along the way. The sea is like 5 metres from the end of the bar but its raised so safe if the tide comes in. The bar is very nice and relaxed and also serves as the restaurant, the bar tenders do blast the music but are eager to listen to tourist music and will put it on. The food here was very nice and clean as the kitchen is open. We had a upstairs room with a balcony with twin beds. It had a nice TV, warm shower and a safe. Very spacious and clean, if you want your room cleaned everyday you have to leave your key at reception. You can get internet/WIFI free but only at reception. The reception staff were very helpful with what to do. We rented mopeds from here for only 200 bht for 24 hours. All in all we really were sad to leave this hotel and Haad Yao as we had made a lot of local friends.

Stayed for 3 nights in a poolside room and thoroughly enjoyed it. Poolside room had direct access to the pool which was clean and very refreshing. Only downside was there was no ladder to get back out of the pool and into your room. The beach here at Haad Yao was certainly one of the better bigger beaches on the Island with fantastic sunsets. The room was clean and spacious but the best thing about this place are the staff especially in the restaurant and bar. They are great fun and very friendly which adds to the experience of what was a very good restaurant certainly the best we come accross ont his beach. Overall good value for money resort.
