“Nice basic resort”
Reviewed 28 July 2011

Nice location, but the web-pict. are not completely honnest, maybe on a very high tide, the beach and resto area look like a real island. Apart from that, a good price/value resort, very clean, fresh sheets and towels every day even beachtowels. Need a motorbike if you stay longer than a few days. Very quiet and Relax!

Room Tip: airco bungalows have best location

i prepaid on agoda for three nights at 20 euro a night, otherwise I would have checked out. The website makes it look like its on a private beach when in fact its only 100m from a very busy fishing port. The water is too shallow to swim in. Staff view guests as human ATM machines and try to rip you off from word go. The resort was completely empty, not surprised. go to bottle beach instead, breathtaking.

We stayed here for the Full Moon party, like many others. We stayed in the cheapest bungalow, fan and cold water. It was fine! Simple, very quiet in the day and you could sit in the hammock and not be bothered all day. The private beach was OK, but had a bit of rubbish washed up, but it doesn't matter because the pool was really good.

The little village is a 10 minute walk away, either by beach, or by road but don't forget to take a torch at night! When we were there, a festival was on that had loud music that we could hear all they way back in our bungalow.

The staff organised a cheap taxi to the full moon party and also takes you to the pier for the ferry for a small price.

Overall its a nice place to do nothing, but it is a bit isolated and overpriced for what you get.

We stayed at Malibu for 4 days all payed before arrival. We were not very pleased as we payed 3500 THB pr night and we really felt like arriving in a money-machine especially the staff and the breakfast was dissapointing. breakfast was VERY simple, no müsli or youghurts and cold eggs, as the breakfast buffet is outside it´s also filled with flyes. The staff was not very friendly at all, no free wifi had to pay 40 bath to make a print. The staff hardly look at us and no-one was giving us a smile and we didn't at all feel wellcome.
They charged us dooble price fore longtail boat to bottlebeach. The aircon bungalow was fine and clean and the beds were very good, and also the outside hammock, but as the beach is far away you have no seaview.....
It is very very isolated and not a place I would visit again, far too expensive fore what it is..... we visited Hat Mae hat (Ko Ma), bootle beach and Hat Yao and will very much recommend these places. If we hadn't payed all in advance we had moved right away and the resorts there you can get much better than Malibu fore half the money.

We found this place while going around Koh Phangan on our mopeds. We needed a new place to stay and this looked great: charming looking bungalows (we had one shown to us), lovely pool and a white sand beach with a restaurant sellling food and juices at very reasonable prices. The views of the bay, the surrounding hills, including the highest mountain on the island, and the small fishing village Chaloklum also won us over.
At 3000 Baht per night during peak season, the new round bungalows facing the pool don't come cheap and seasoned Thailand travelers (this was our first trip) would probably argue that this is overpriced. We absolutely loved our bungalow though. Painted stucco-type walls in the spacious bathroom with other beautiful features (Bali-style?) - looked like an interior designer had been called in. The bedroom was also done with lots of TLC. Lighting system was quite sophisticated and probably cost the developer a bit. The television on the wall made my football- and news broadcast-loving partner quite happy.
People have criticised the restaurant, but we were very happy with it. Yes, they do serve cold scrambled eggs, but we actually liked them. There is not a huge variety of breakfast food options, but you do get your toast and jam, fresh fruit and sandwiches. You will find something you like. If you order something off the menu, especially if one of the older and very friendly Thai women run the kitchen, you will find an absolute treat on your plate. We had the best Cashew Chicken ever (probably ordered it 5 times). According to my travel notes it cost 70 Baht. That is far under 2£! We also loved the Thai glass noodle salad with chicken. Very refreshing and light even in the middle of the day. Only fault I could find was their cocktail-making skills, but I found that to be a problem all over Thailand. Drinks did not seem to have much alcohol in them. I ended up ordering my vodka straight with a bit of coke...
The beach: the white sand here seems to be a quirk of nature. It is darker with larger grains everywhere else. They take good care of the grounds and even sweep the beach. The water isn't perfectly clean and you will find bits of rubbish washed up at times, but that is the reality of being located close to a fishing village. It didn't bother us too much and it didn't seem to bother anyone else. The pool is very good by the way..

We are looking forward to staying here again in the future.

We had an amazing 8 days at Malibu Beach, Koh Phagnan and would highly recommend this to anyone. The deluxe bungalow we stayed in was modern, spotlessly clean and one of the nicest places we'd stayed at in Thailand. The swimming pool was clean and blissfully quiet (no kids!) and just 100 metres away over a little bridge to the beautiful white sandy beach.

The beach bar/restaurant was fine and we enjoyed the lunchtime snacks we had there. Breakfast was a little strange with a cold buffet (i.e. hot food in trays which were left to go cold!) but aside from the cold chips and cold fried eggs (!) there was enough to choose from and of course if you get up at a reasonable enough time and catch the food when it comes out hot then it's no problem!

Malibu Beach Bungalows are a 5 minute beach walk along to Ao Chaloklum which is a fishing village and a rare unspoilt part of Thailand with great seafood restaurants and a super Italian restaurant which served huge, delicious pizzas run by a friendly Thai lady and her Italian husband. There are a couple of bars in Ao Chaloklum but generally it's a pretty lowkey place and was exactly what we were looking for but if you want a party week, then head to the south of the island.

After several weeks of traveling in Koh Samui and Koh Tao, my friend and I ended up at Malibu Beach Bungalows. When I first walked out on their white sand beach, I let out an exhale that I didn't know I was holding - this was the tropical paradise I'd been waiting to find. We stayed in a standard fan bungalow - very small, but clean and attractive. And, with the gorgeous pool and fantastic restaurant out on the beach, we had no reason to ever spend time in our room anyway. While the room itself my have been small, the price we paid was more than worth it for the beauty of the location, the relaxing atmosphere and the incredibly helpful and accomodating staff. Staying here was my favorite part of my whole visit to Thailand - but only come here if you want something quiet and peaceful - theres no nightlife around. Also, we really enjoyed the breakfast that was included with the room - a bit of an odd assortment, but delicious.
