I'm of the mindset "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all", unfortunately after a recent stay here, I can't keep my mouth shut about this one. Seaview Rainbow's owner was terrible towards myself and my friends. The bungalows themselves are clean, comfortable, superbly located on a beautiful stretch of beach and the one breakfast I had in the restaurant was very nice. The rest of the staff who work there were also extremely polite and very helpful. Why the owner took a particular dislike to us I will never know. Firstly, he gave away one of the bungalows we'd booked without warning - not ideal over Christmas/Full Moon/New Year's week. When we asked why, he was rude bordering aggressive and offered no hint of an apology or that it was down to a misunderstanding, he'd just decided to sell it to someone else. Secondly, when we asked for an extra blanket and pillow so that I could crash in a hammock as he'd given away our bungalow he, again, was rude bordering on aggressive and bluntly told us that he only had enough for one in each bungalow at any given time, while his friends sat drinking with him shouted 'The shop is open, why don't YOU buy it?!'. Nice. But, lo and behold, his wife (who was great throughout) brought one over for which we were very grateful, much to the owner and his friends' dismay it seemed.
Later the next day (Christmas Day), my friends and I came back from lunch at a local restaurant - one of my friends had brought back half a club sandwich left over and asked the waiter if it would be possible to put it in their kitchen fridge until later as there were no fridges in the rooms. He was brilliantly helpful as usual and told her of course it wasn't a problem. Minutes later, however, the owner arrived at her bungalow to inform her (shouting, I might add) that what she had done was disrespectful and that she and her boyfriend were no longer welcome at Seaview. My friends immediately apologised and said they hadn't meant to cause offence or be disrespectful, of course. They had no idea it would be such a massive problem, particularly when they were told it wasn't by a different member of staff. He would not hear a word of it and told them to leave immediately. After yet more apologising my friends had to admit defeat and attempt to find alternative accommodation. On Christmas Day. What a nice man. While one packed, the other went on the search. After 5 minutes, the owner returned to their bungalow and shouted from outside 'Have you finished packing?!' It was just utterly unnecessary and, frankly, bad business practice.
Why this man felt the need to attempt to ruin our holiday by being always rude and aggressive, I do not know. Having a bad week? Annoyed that we didn't eat every single meal (just the majority) in his restaurant? Did he have someone at the desk offering more money than he was charging us?
Whatever, we found wonderful alternative accommodation next door with bungalows of a higher standard (hot water - yay!) but the massive advantage here was a hospitable owner!
As somebody who's worked in hospitality for over 10 years, I'm fully aware that you can't please all the people all the time. But if you work in hospitality, you really ought to be hospitable.
My advice would be to tread carefully if you choose to stay at Seaview, you never know which side of the owner you'll get, apparently.
