“Perfect spot to relax, enjoy the beach, eat great food”
Reviewed 6 May 2012

This is exactly what we were looking for to kick off our vacation. We wanted to unwind by doing nothing but sitting on the beach for a few days and relaxing. The Longtail is perfect for that. It is quiet, has a beautiful beach, and the food is amazing. This is definitely budget accomodation so I wasn't sure what to expect... But I was pleasantly surprised. The bungalows were simple but clean and there were no bugs (we stayed at bungalow #1 right on the beach).

If you don't like dogs don't come here. They are freindly and just like to hang out near you. And occasionally bark at night. But they won't jump on you or anything and they seem clean.

We went at the start of December '11 when the floods in bangkok were just ending. So it was *really* quiet on the whole island. I would have preferred a little more action but there was nobody around. At all!!! I would reccomend a rental truck if you want to go explore transportation is not so easy from here and the road is not great for scooters. Not too much to do in the area in December because no tours were started yet.

Room Tip: The sea-side bungalo is nice but it doesn't make a difference as its a small property. Bring a b...

We have just returned from a short vacation and are pleased to select the bungalow at the beach side. Food was truly excelent so we did not even bother to look for an alternative. The only issue was that at this season the water is very shallow in the bay however that is applicable to all beaches on the island.
Not for people who would prefer to stay in their room instead of enjoying the environment or who travel with big suitcases. All you need is a few shirts and shorts the rest is completely needless. The staff is exactly as friendly as you are with them so keep on trying....

Room Tip: If you like the sound of sea I recommend the bungallow at the beach side.

Booking our stay at the Longtail resort was easily and quickly sorted out over email, and being able to pick the actual bungalow you want to stay in from a map is a nice touch.
The bungalows were basic but clean, and the ensuite bathroom had hot water and good water pressure. The little balcony outside the bungalow has a hammock and a holder for a mosquito coil, so it's the perfect spot to relax after a day on the beach.
Initially we'd booked a room with a fan, but it was so hot that we requested use of the air con instead which the staff we were happy to help with and had it up and running for us in 5 mins.
The bungalows are at the quieter end of a lovely stretch of beach. Yes, the beach directly in front of the bungalows isn't the best for swimming due to the longtail boats there, but a 2 min walk down the beach takes you to a clear bit of sea.
We had breakfast and a few lunches at the resort - all of these were very good, especially the papaya salad.
The guys at the resort were helpful, especially with their suggestions of ways to get to Haad Rin, and then arranging a taxi for us, even though it was Thai new year.
The beach has a few other resorts with restaurants and bars, enough to fill a few days without getting bored.
Overallthe found the Longtail Beach resort to be excellent value for money, and the perfect place to get away from the madness of Haad Rin/Chaweng for a few days.

Room Tip: Get a bungalow which has the option of a fan and air con, just in case it's too hot for just the...

On arrival greeted by member of staff, shown to our bungalow (the family bungalow -18!! Extremely small)

We booked the bungalow as there were three of us staying! It's small, no where to hang clothes, very poorly lit! We were given one towel for the whole 3 nights (the towel had a questionable smell too) we had a small balcony not ideal for three people let alone a family as there was hardly anywhere to sit!

The restaurant - was the highlight of the place. Food great and very reasonably priced. The breakfast choices were good also. We had the best Pad Thai of Our two week trip! The down side was that the seating was very uncomfortable so you could not relax! As our balcony had no relaxing, comfortable area we spent most of our time uncomfortable.

The beach front - had a few comfy deck chairs but the beach in front is full of boats so not really pleasant to swim in.
The beach on the whole is a real let down, a lot of litter and terrible music blaring from bars!

Staff - have to agree with some of the view points by other reviewers! One staff member was very rude, didn't even return a smile or acknowledge a request or when you said thankyou! He was very unhelpful in the organisation of our taxi back to the pier we wanted to go to. The only option he could was by using his brothers taxi service!

Overall longtail should not call itself a resort but bungalows by the sea for budget travellers! I would only recommend this place if you wanted to save some money for a few nights then more on to somewhere a lot better, like we did!

First of all, If you just wanna party it up Full Moon style for 3 or 4 days straight, then Longtail probably isn't the place for you. But if you're looking for somewhere a little more low-key and chilled out while you're visitng Koh Phan Ngan, then I recommend checking Longtail out. It's located on the northern part of the Island (on Thong Ngai Phan Yai) where it's a lot quieter in general. The rooms are bungalows and come with ensuite, hot shower, fan, mosquito nets and a hammock on the front porch. The staff are helpful (however apathetic) and the food is great. Actually the food is really great, and cheap too! (50 - 120 Baht) It's probably the cheapest food of all the resorts on Tong Ngai Phan beach but was also the best. I noticed a fair number of people from other resorts would come to Longtail multiple times in a row to eat, so that's gotta say something. Beer was reasonably priced too (50/80 for small/larg Chang beer). Free (decently fast) wifi available as well in the restaurant.

The booking system they have online is pretty good. The rooms at the back are cheaper than the ones at the front (closer to the beach/restaurant), but from what I could tell they were all the same on the inside (except for the three or four bigger 'family' bugalows at the front).

Stayed here for 3 nights in March 2012 with my boyfriend. We came to this resort because of the very high rating on trip advisor (especially for the price) and were dissapointed.

The rooms are nice, stayed in a B15 bungalow with AC which was very much needed for 850 Baht per night. the rooms are pretty small, but designed in a way that you have everything you need.

The staff wasn't nice at all. maybe it was because of the fact that we didnt eat all are meals at the resturant ( only 3/6) or maybe they are just like that....It always felt like they were doing you a favor when giving you service (and we really didnt ask for that much).

The resturant serves okay Thai food, but portions are small and prices are high (not in comparison to other resturants on the beach, but in comparison to resturants in the village).

ended up leaving one day before we planned :(

Room Tip: Choose a room with AC, at least in March.

Small, very nice resort located at the end of the beach next to the jungle. Good service and extremely friendly and welcoming atmosphere. The resort has a cozy feel and the restaurant excellent food. ThongNaiPan Yai Beach offers peace and quiet and relaxation but there are also a number of sights and activities all around Koh Phangan for those interested (snorkeling trips, waterfalls, massage etc). There are multiple nice places to eat along the beach. The largest group of tourists during my stay was families with children. I had a great vacation at Longtail Beach resort.
