“We love Longtail!”
Reviewed 29 August 2014

Longtail was one of our favourite places to stay on our trip. It isn't a luxury hotel, but we found it to be quaint and we had a pleasant stay. Longtail allows you to connect with nature more than you would at a typical resort. The staff were very helpful and friendly and the room was clean. One of the best things about this place was the food, it was soooo good! We ended up eating dinner there every night because it was just too good to chance going anywhere else. There are dogs at the resort, but we are dog people and ended up falling in love with them, especially the short little guy who we nicknamed Shorty. I would definitely recommend this place to family and friends :)

Nice and clean bungalows. Very spacious and good value (890 baht / night with fan). Probably the best option in the north est.
Location is nice and quiet. Even though sea is not that deep in front of the bungalows. Sand however is crystal clean and white.

Very good place to chill out. Very good restaurant with affordable prices (between 90-130 baht dish). Ok it s more expansive that thai street food in Bangkok (example pad thai is 95baht while in street stands it is around 50baht max) but you pay for being in an island.

Btw, no real street food in the village (where you can found a 7/11). actually, in Thon Nai Pan Yai no real restaurants and bars in the village (only one street). All is happening at the beach.

Would you like some life and bars move to Thong Nai Pai Noi (1km up and down a hill)...more options by night.

We rented a scooter in the village near by the pharmacy for 200 baht/day (other were asking for 250). Take photos and videos of your scooter before to make sure there is no scam!
It is convenient to have a scooter to visit the island (2 days is enough). It takes you 30min by scooter to go to Had Rin (avoid staying there...even if nice sea..it s a Khao San Road on the island) or Thong Sala.

Unfortunately, there is no road that cross from north est to north west..consider going south then north again.

Going to Haad Salad by scooter is a little bit risky (you might have to pay for the scooter as the road is step), you can park your scooter and continue by walk 20min. Other option, is longtail taxi boat but I heard they take approx. 700 baht for that.

Overall a nice and clean location. Good food. Friendly staff. The only thing is the poor wifi signal!

Longtail Beach Resort is not a full service, luxury retreat. The Wifi was spotty, the bathroom was one step away from camping, and you pay extra for air conditioning (in July, you need it!).

However, the EXCELLENT rating is due to the many things that lead to a great stay for someone looking for a quiet beach front experience.

The place is an excellent value for the price. The food in the restaurant is varied and good and a great value. The only place in SE Asia that I got real American style coffee. The wait staff were delightful and tried their best to be helpful.

The spot is on the far end of a quiet beach on a quiet spot on the island. There are beach dogs that are friendly but be aware if you are not a dog person if staying on this beach. The town within walking distance is sleepy as are the beach bars within walking distance. Nightlife consisted of after dinner stroll, watching the local staff playing pick up soccer and a quiet drink in the sand.

If this type of paradise isn't for you, look elsewhere. But we found it one of the best and most amazing spots on our trip.

We have stayed in a lot of hotels, hostels and guesthouses around the world, and for the price you pay, this has to be one of the best.

The email correspondence to book our room and prior to arrival was fantastic. Longtail even organised a transfer from the pier for us, which I would really recommend booking. It is the same price as you'd pay by getting a normal shared taxi, but without the stress of haggling, and they pick you up in a nice air-conditioned minivan. The driver was also extremely careful, which cannot be said for a lot of taxi drivers!

The room itself was very basic, but really lovely. We paid for air-conditioning, which worked perfectly. My husband is a bit of an air-con princess and he said it's one of the best air-cons he's ever experienced! The shower was nice and hot too, which was great, and we had our own hammock on the deck, which was lovely for relaxing!

The staff were all wonderful and I cannot fault the service at all, they would go out of their way to help you in any way they could.

The location is fabulous, right at the end of the beach. To walk to the other end of the beach took 15-20 minutes, but it was a leisurely stroll (and I was 4 months pregnant at the time). The beach itself is absolutely beautiful.

The food at Longtail was AMAZING. We had a couple of meals there, both of which were out-of-this-world, and we noticed that a lot of people from other resorts came to Longtail for dinner. If you don't fancy eating there though, there are plenty of options along the beach, both for food and for drinks. Very casual beach-bar-style places, which was wonderful for us.

Some other reviewers have mentioned the dogs on the beach. Yes, they are there, so if you're not a dog lover, then you probably won't like it, but we love dogs and found all of them to be really friendly. The resort's dogs were real characters and it was nice to have them around!

All in all, this is truly a fantastic place to stay and I wouldn't hesitate in booking another stay here.

We spent 4 nights here before starting our journey home and luckily got a room as a walk in. We would definitely recommend booking if you want to stay here as we thought with it being low season we'd easily be able to get a room but they had very few options available, must be a good sign!
We spent a night in a standard bungalow, which was small but very comfortable before moving to one of the larger rooms for the remaining 3 nights.
The position of Longtail at the end of the beach is a great spot for watching the sunset and also means that it is tucked away from everything else.
The restaurant serves some of the best Thai food that we have ever eaten, try the no names!
We also met some great people here and enjoyed too many beers on our last night after the Longtail had helped us book a boat trip to bottle beach, a great way to spend our last day on the island.
We will defiantly be returning on our next trip to Thailand.

This friendly, peaceful resort is located at the end of a beautiful beach that is perfect for families. We staying in a family bungalow on the hill - a bit of a hike up but we had a lovely veranda with a hammock that made the trip worthwhile. Only downside is the huge cost of a taxi to get there or travel anywhere else around the island. Food was only average but the staff were very friendly and helpful. Provided independent advice when asked about tours and attractions.

We stayed here 3 nights in the family bungalow, but it was just my husband and I. Our son decided not to join us..however we kept the air conditioned room instead of changing it to the cheaper 1 bedroom bungalow. Good thing because it was hot! Restaurant at the resort was convenient, and we ate breakfast there daily and some dinners. It is a pretty popular place, and food was good. Service is very friendly. We walked to the village and rented a scooter from an honest woman and her mother across from the bakery towards the end of the street (right side) for 200bht. We left our passport at the resort but they were willing to take a deposit and drivers license, so I'd definitely recommend them.
Our bungalow was clean and had a nice deck and hammock to relax in. Beach was beautiful and we walked down every day. We were here during the school fundraiser event so that night all the local businesses and hotels were selling food and drinks to help the community. Definitely recommend this place for relaxation! Its quiet, and not much to do, but we liked it alot! Also took the scooter to Bottle Beach and the sister beach nearby
