We stayed here to be close to Thongsala for Song kran (Thai new year). We chose an AC room for 650 bath/night. The room was on the second floor with a private balcony overlooking the lush garden. You could see that they had renovated the room and it looked nice apart from the sloppy paint job that had left stains on the floor and on the walls in the bathroom. The pool is really nice and they keep the beach clean and nice too. We walked on the beach from the pier and it's much nicer than the other resorts along the way. Staff was friendly and nice.
If you need to spend a night in Thongsala (not the greatest town in Thailand) this is a really good option away from traffic and noise but still within walking distance to the town and the pier.

At some point I thought my friend and I were in a show where people are put in ridiculous situations and at the end someone points at a hidden camera saying that they were tricked. But no, that experience was not a joke.

Hotel policy said no deposit/advance payment is required, but my card was charged in full, weeks ahead without any notice. Upon check-in we discovered a very dirty toilet and cockroaches in the bathroom. We asked for another room or a refund, but were refused by receptionist lady named Tah as "hotel was fully booked and their policy doesn't allow refunds..." Given late hours we had to stay overnight. We later learnt from another receptionist that there were free rooms that day...
Cleaners were (reluctantly) sent into our room to clean the toilet and sprinkle the bathroom area with a bug spray. We asked them to wait a few minutes so we can get changed before they come in, but they said their shift was over (7pm) and they either do it immediately, or not clean until the next day..!!!
I don't know if they ever used the bug spray in the bathroom, but when I asked if they could sprinkle some in the bedroom as well (just in case!) it turned out that the spray can was empty... With a smile on face they asked us "Not to worry, because these insects DON'T BITE" (!!!)....
Sound like a joke, doesn't it?!

We tried taking a shower but the power was so bad, the shower gel wouldn't wash off.
There was a large window frame, but no window itself in the bathroom, meaning cockroaches could easily get in even if you don't discover any immediately. Bedsheets had tens of small red stains - bed bug marks. Beware, these insects are costly to get rid of, if you bring them home in your bag/clothes.....

We needed to urgently change our boat/plane tickets but couldn't, because there was no internet in villa, or reception area. Tah didn't let us use the phone because "it was for internal calls only." The hotel is in the middle of nowhere, so I couldn't top up the credit on my phone either...

When we thought that it couldn't get any worse, the electricity went off. That meant a very hot night without AC in a hotel room infested with cockroaches and bed bugs. We checked out first thing tomorrow morning with no refund. I want to add that it was not a budget accomodation where "you get what you pay".

Seeing some positive reviews here I conclude that this is kind of a hotel where if you are lucky - your stay will go without a problem, but if there are issues - they will not be resolved.

P.S. I did get a refund via booking company later, so it is worth challenging them if you face a similar situation.

dakanta resort is an absolute joke. do not stay here!! firstly we booked on hotels.com with breakfast included, arrived at the hotel which they said it wasnt, then stated it was. just been for breakfast and got charged! moscuito net fell down last night, cockroaches everywhere, bathroom outside and more like a cell, staff lie and are completely incompetent, security guard is the laziest person ive met, restaurant food awful, sun loungers broken, wifi always tempermental, ludicrously overpriced...the list can go on. the reception wouldnt even tell us the room rate to stay an extra night. its all a scam!

Thong Sala - look it up before you stay here and then cry about the location. Da Kanda is located in a great spot for Thong Sala. But Thong Sala isn't your party central or the most perfect beach spot.

Stayed for 2 nights for 1,200 baht a night in a superior room. Chose not to stay in a villa due to the 'open' Thai style bathrooms. They didn't look too nice either when we had a proper look.

Room was clean, but bathroom a bit smelly (common Thailand problem). Safe was broken but we didn't make the effort to get it fixed.

Breakfast was incl in our price. They give you the choice of a set menu which was a lovely idea and better than most of the 'buffets' we've had. Didn't eat at the restaurant otherwise.

Staff were friendly and spoke good English.

Wifi was good in our rooms but couldn't get it anywhere else on the property. We tested it by the Villas and couldn't get it then...so I wouldn't expect a good connection for Villa stayers.

Fantastic view of the beach from the pool - very relaxing. The resort has beautiful banana trees growing on the property, it gives it a nice feel :)

Do yourself a favor and eat at the Night Markets open every evening - cheap and delish! People travel to visit it so experience it whilst its on your back door.

This was a 'cheap' resort overall, we'd stay again but not for a prolonged period as there are nicer places for only a little more cash and better beaches.
