We had choosen the Stone hill Resort for our first stay on Ko Phang Ngan. When we arrived, we were happy to see that we had made the right choice.
We wanted to be at an easy reach of each side of the island. We also wanted to avoid been stuck at some lowly place, near a shadowy beach or in a mosquito-friendly back-garden. We are a couple of seasoned travellers in tropical places: we know what disasters luring shoops on a web page can hide and didn't want to take any risk.
We had a very clean, luminous and comfortable room - deluxe. We didn't have to use the air-conditioning because being on a hill, we found it windy enough to make it cool at night. The terrace offered us a somptuous ocean-view wich we enjoyed almost every night before going for a sun-downer at the Amsterdam Bar, a couple of steps above the hill.
The whole bungalow was quite well taken care of, very clean. And during our stay of 5 nights we always had fresh towels, and linen for the asking. The bed was good, a tea-boiler is at hand, etc. We used the laundry service - quite professionnal and sweet - from the Thai lady at the entrance of the resort.
Some may find the bathroom sober, rudimentary in a way, but I have to say that it is the kind of amenity which is in accord with the weather, and the open air context. When vacationing in tropical countries, you feel quite comfortable when you enjoy a nice fresh shower with plenty of space to move around, etc.
We felt very much at home during our stay. Ian and Paula, our smiling hosts, gave us a warm welcome, and were available all along the 5 days. They cared very much for our well-being. Ian and Paula congenial inputs about the beach, excursions, do's and dont's were very valuable and very much appreciated.
Ian went the extra-mille from the beginning when he offered to drive me in town to get a moped for the stay. He introduced me to a recommandable bike-rent owner, at a very fair price, and without any after-thought about fairness. He also managed to have us driven back to the pier by Mr Wong at the end of our stay. Thanks very much again, Ian!
One advantage of staying a the Stone Hill Resort, was that we could enjoy the sun-downers at the Amstardam Bar which boasts a unique and mesmerizing reggae playlist. Sheer relaxation, let it go, while sipping one or more of the excellent cocktails provided by the diligent care of Mr Wong. We also indulged in savouring some of his perfumed Thai dishes readily available for dinner.
The fact that some vacationers from the outside come at night to visit the bar on top of the hill – on mopeds - has not been a problem at all. It brings – in my opinion – a welcome note of merriment and energy to these otherwise very calm surroundings; and after 11pm, it usually starts slowing down. We had the pleasure to chat with some of these usually young international visitors and found it very refreshing.
Well, that’s for it! Again, the perfect reliable place for your stay in Ko Phang Ngan! Go for it!
