Shambhala Bungalow Village
Reviewed 10 January 2014

If you are looking for a warm, friendly place to stay with beautiful location and friendly company, then you should definitely consider Shambhala. My partner and I arrived here from Bangkok via Koh Samui and have thoroughly enjoyed our 6 nights. We booked a superior beachview bungalow, only a minute from the laid back restaurant on the beach. Everyone working here has been welcoming (thank you, Carlo, Daha, and Jon) and we really enjoyed meeting the cosmopolitan mixture of German, Swiss, French, Chilean, and Scandinavian guests. The rooms are clean, shower with hot water, bedding fresh, food tasty, beach front clean, sea wonderfully warm, and sunsets on this side of the island as romantic as you could want :) We've had fun seeing some of the more touristic things, like the snake show about 20 minutes from here by taxi, but have most enjoyed lazing around in a peaceful atmosphere, reading, while sipping the banana & coconut shakes ... Would love to come here again!

Room Tip: The beach front bungalows look great, but are quickly booked out. Our sea view bungalow was lovely...

The best bungalow place i have stayed in Thailand. This is my sixt time here, and i have not encountered a friendlier staff, that says alot in Thailand. Very charming, very clean, they have used alot of raw materials in a very stileful way. It is 5 min. from thongsala town. Nice clean beach, and very good restaurant.
I checked out alot of places before setteling on this one.
if you should come to koh panghang you will not regret coming to this place.

Lovely place to stay not even for sunset. Nice spot on the island, bit north of ThongSala - my fav. place to relax on the beach, surf, sail or hang around. Not easy to get one of the three beachfront huts without reservation. The gardenhuts are also very nice - same same but different, every hug has his special flaire - and all of the has amazing seaview. the new appartements on the entrance are very spacy and have a/c, tv and nice veranda with seaview.

@john: Thanks for the best CubaLibre on the Island :)

hope to see u next year again

I stayed here with 3 other friends, and we rented the family bungalow at the top, of which had a double bunk-bed. Except the rain, and the fact that we only had 1 night here, it was a perfect night!

The bungalow was clean, spacious, decorated well, a great balcony/communal area with a hammock and candles and cushions, fantastic view.

The restaurant on the beach, and the beach itself, was also very lovely. Very secluded; which we wanted!

These bungalows do not come Koh Phangan cheap however (by this I mean, they are very cheap by European/American standards per person, but you will definitely find something cheaper on Phangan, if you want it). Our 4 person family bungalow set us back 1,300baht = $43.

Also, the bungalows are not on the busy Hadd Rin Beach (Full Moon Party), and are quite further north on the island. It is very quiet, which we wanted, however you can rent a scooter for 200baht per 24hours and drive to the nearest village, only 5mins away.

A little piece of heaven!

I've been traveling alot all over the world and I must say Shambala is my favorite place ever. I've been there a few different times of the year and I always long to come back! The beach and the garden is almost like a fairy tail.

It's private, nature style, but still very close to explore the island in minutes by bike, taxi or by foot. Close to charming Thong Sala. Still, sometimes it feels like we're the only people on earth at Shambala, the beach is so quiet and adorable.

The rooms are beautiful, clean and very well designed, all bamboo stile which I love. No artificial aircon, just natural sea breeze, good fans and soft lightening, hammocks and cushions. The family who owns and run it is so welcoming, they often makes that little extra effort to make us happy. Don't expect 24h roomservice though! it's still a small-bamboo-nature-resort with just a few rooms right on the beach, but with a better comfort than most places!

Amazing food! (Must recommend the Thai style Egg plant! And the Pha Nang is the best I had in Thailand! Mmmm! :) Delicious fruit shakes and good coffee! My favorite is also the beautiful little library corner with cushions for reading and the garden with fruit, veggies and herbs they serve in the restaurant.

Shambala - you will always be in my heart!

We booked into Shambhala on recommendation from a friend and we booked 4 nights in between 'moon parties', as we weren't interested in the party side of the island.

We stayed in a beachside bungalow literally 10 metres from the water front, a cute little beach, not used by anyone else.

Anita, the very friendly manager, showed us around our bungalow which was simple, but clean and nicely decorated. Hot water, a big king size bed and comfy hammock out front were the features. Double windows open the room up to the beach and fresh air.

Make sure you come here not expecting hotel service. You should be happy to sweep your balcony, make your bed and empty your rubbish. It's not a big deal! Treat the little bungalow as your little house and enjoy the location, the serenity and the beach.

A few things to note:

- the water, whilst beautiful, can sometimes have little jellyfish which are harmless.
- there are a number of dogs in the area. Not a problem if you're happy with them, but they can sometimes get themselves worked up.
- the food at the restaurant is excellent and well priced. It may not be open everyday, but we were told about the one day it wasn't open ahead of time.
- there is also a nice restaurant in the next-door resort which is a good but expensive alternative.
- We walked to Thongsala, the capital, and also the other direction to a little beach town. Easy enough to grab a taxi along the road as well.
- Make sure you pack mosquito spray for the evenings and eye mask if morning sun bothers you!
- there are kayaks, sailboards and other beach equipment that can be borrowed/hired.

Overall a great visit with friendly staff and amazing location and sunsets!

Thanks Shambhala!

boungalow, relax, fun, comfort.
I found this place by accident and it was the best stay of the trip. A little secret paradise that offers what you need.
Friendly and friendly, boungalow beautiful, clean and comfortable, overlooking the sea ... All at the island quieter and still not far from the most vibrant areas.
It 's definitely a place to stay even more than a few days.
Do not miss it.
